he survive?” “No, I don’t think so.” Erica told Elle candidly. “Would you please take a look at this on your console?” Erica was curious so she logged onto her console and was floored by what she saw, “How sure are you of this?” “I’ve personally never tired it, but it’s part of the data the Doctor Esry left with me.” Erica thought about it, what she had in front of her was what looked like a valid treatment for radiation poisoning. “Elle, can you help me process this?” “Of course Doctor Sanders.” Erica thought quickly, time was not on Bills side, he was going to die if she did nothing, and at least this was some hope, a shot in the dark. “Let’s get on it Elle, I’m heading to the lab.” “I’ll see you there!” Elle replied, Erica’s thought was, ‘how much did she see that went on within the ship’. The lab was two offices down and really hadn’t been used much; ideally it was to be a joint lab between her and Wallace. She entered the lab and powered up the equipment she knew she was going to need, “Elle, you there?” “Yes Doctor I’m here, I’m ready to start anytime you are.” “Let’s do it.” Erica told Elle. For the next several hours Erica and Elle worked hand-in-hand to develop the radiation treatment. Two times they had to start over because their inability to really understand the instructions, so there was some trial by error. Those were frustrating times for Erica, not so much or Elle and she had no feelings, they kept moving forward regardless, even with the setbacks. What was always on Erica’s mind was time, the clock was ticking, and she didn’t know how much time Bill had. “Doctor, Staff Sergeant Bell is trying to contact you.” “Would you please put him through here.” “Dr.
Sanders? This is Bell.” “What can I do for you Staff Sergeant? I’m a bit busy.” “I wanted to give you an update on Dr. DaFrank.” “Alright, go ahead.” “He’s awake, but vomiting, he’s also complaining of a massive headache and he’s burning up.” “There’s not a lot we can do, try to make him as comfortable as possible. Give him some Ibuprofen eight hundred milligrams – give him four. Get the ice packs out and place them along his body to keep him cool. Keep him hydrated, with water and Gatorade, even if he continues to vomit. Does he have any diarrhea?” “No mam, should I discontinue the IV? I’m afraid with the vomiting he might rip it out.” “Take the IV out, but continue to hydrate him, let me know when the diarrhea starts.” “Yes, mam.” The connection was broken. “Doctor I think we have something here.” Elle said. Erica looked at the results that Elle had posted on her console screen, “My God, is this it?” She asked Elle. They had been at it almost seven hours now. “Yes doctor it would seem so.” “Well, it’s not a quick cure if, and that’s a big if, it works. It will be a slow recovery.” “That’s true Doctor, when will you administer …show more content…
it?” “Is the sample ready?” “Yes Doctor.” “Well there’s no time like the present.” Erica picked up the sample, which Bill would have to drink, and hopefully keep down.
“Meet you at sick bay Elle.” “See you there Doc.” Sick bay was just around the corner as in distance, it wasn’t a long walk. Erica entered the sick bay, “Welcome back!” Elle said. “Thank you Elle.” By this time Erica was getting used to the computers newly devised sense of humor. She walked over to bed where Bill was laid out. “I’m going to need you to prop him up while I feed this to him and then once he’s drank it he needs to sit up for another ten minutes.” She told SSG Bell. “I’ve got it mam, no worries.” SSG Bell responded. SSG Bell lifted Bill up, he wasn’t heavy, Bill was not a big man and the Staff Sergeant, like the other PJ’s, were in excellent shape and strong. “Ok, hold him still.” She told SSG Bell. “Bill, Bill…look at me.” Erica said sternly to him. Bill looked at her; he was doing his best to focus on her. “I need for you to drink all of this and not throw it up.” Erica told
him. Bill only nodded; Erica lifted the cup up to Bills lips and tipped it slowly, the fluid flowed into Bills mouth. At first, he coughed a bit, but he continued to drink it, he took long slow deliberate sips. There were a couple of times he gagged and it looked as though he was going to vomit it all up, he persevered and kept it all down. He drank it all, “Bill you have to sit up for at least ten minutes, the Staff Sergeant will help you. Can you do that?” Bill nodded.
