Personal Narrative-How I Gained My First Song In Church
How I Gained My Confidence “For God did not give us the Spirit of fear, but the Spirit of a power, love, and a sound mind”- 2 Timothy 1:7. The Key to confidence is stepping out on faith. I actually gained my confidence by leading my first song in church. Of course I started crying because I was nervous, but then I stopped and I knew that God was with me. There are certain situations when I still get nervous, like playing my first basketball game of the season or even when I’m taking a test, but I’ve learned that if I’ve done everything in my power to succeed, then God will take care of the rest. I can recall the Sunday in which I lead my first song. I sang “I Worship You” by Mary Mary. At first, I was crying because I was nervous, and then I thought about how good God had been to me. When the song was first given to me, it was kind of forced on me. I didn’t know anything about singing, let alone leading a song. I was very complacent about learning the lyrics, also. Not knowing what the Lord had in store for me, I really brushed the song off. That Saturday night I had forgotten all about leading, and I didn't think twice about it. Once I woke up the next morning I did my Sunday morning routine and still no thought about my solo. My family and I had made it all the way to church and I then remembered I had a leading role in …show more content…
My confidence didn’t come from me making a decision to lead a song on a Sunday morning, but from God putting me in place for His plan. God knew that from this moment forward that I would have a level of confidence in any situation that would normally cause me fear. I also realized that true confidence doesn’t come from being cocky or conceited and then wanting to throw God in there somewhere, but actually praying about our situation and thanking God for the outcome, whether you’re happy or not. All things should be done for the glory of

I have the tendency to not have enough confidence in myself to make decisions without a lot of input from others and permission seeking. My mentor used to be my boss and he told me that while I was ultimately one of his best program directors he had ever supervised; my journey to the directorship was exhausting and sometimes a bit frustrating for him. He stated that I would ask questions about every minute detail because I seemed to fear making a mistake. He said that for me to become a leader I need to believe in myself, have confidence that I am capable and I do know what I am doing. He told me that until I learn to trust myself, I am going to have a difficult time getting others to trust me as a leader. He also told me that I have the capacity to become a transformational leader, which is my goal, but I have to let go of the fear, and allow myself to make mistakes. According to him, mistakes teach valuable lessons, and the way I react to the mistake builds…

I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

Only mere hours ago we were leading separate lives, and now we were to come together and choose a leader. The men and women around the table were each feeling the same sense of dread. The words “Please, don’t pick me!” were figuratively written on a bubble above everyone’s head. As I gazed upon this collection of strangers, I began to feel empathetic. Each of us knew the weight of this responsibility, yet none of us wanted to take it. Suddenly, as if someone else took control of my voice, I said confidently, “I’ll do it.” It was at that moment that God gave me the confidence to overcome my…

Being a leader for a large group means more than just a title. As co-drum major of my high school marching band, I had to use leadership to help the group has had to overcome. The title bears numerous responsibilities and in various styles, but choosing to lead by example while having a sense of humor has shown as the most effective way of leading for me. Performing as a marching band requires lots of dedication and hard work; however, when the group starts lacking in motivation to progress, a leader must step in. For the group to overcome these issues,we had to get together and discuss what was keeping the group from progressing. Leading by example is not enough for a group to follow, sometimes it requires actual action as well. I use my sense…

For a lot of my life I have felt introverted and quiet. I don’t like attention called onto me. Taking time off after Oregon helped me to realize that much of that wasn’t because I was a shy person- it was because I was holding myself back from who I want to be due to a lack of personal self-confidence. This semester I have chosen to take a vocal class in which I will have to perform in front of other- a thought that quite frightens me actually. But singing is something that I like to do when I am alone, so I thought maybe singing in front of other would be a good challenge for me and help me to gain that confidence.…

I could never forget my first band concert. We had to wear formal clothes and we had to bring our saxophone. We had to practice all year for that moment. We waited in the stands while the first band was playing. Then when they finished the second band started playing. We waited until there band was done after them was us. We started playing playing the first song and when that one was over the crowd cheered. After that we started playing our second song. When that one was finished the crowd cheered even more since we were beginners. After that they gave out awards calling out the best players and the ones that tried the most and stuff like that. Then we all went home to enjoy the rest of the night. That was my first band concert, but definitely…

I became a leader in my senior year of marching band and worked with another person to lead the clarinet section. I began by having to collect everyone's information to be able to contact them and make sure that we had an accurate headcount for the writing of the show. The numbers fluctuated and I had to keep tabs on who was and was not there. After that, I had organized a sectional to learn and clean the new dance most of us learned. I had to teach others because they were not at the rehearsal when the rest of us had learned it. We improved the quality of the dance from that one sectional and continued onward with the season. When the school year started I had to work harder to make sure the section was improving. The major problem was there…

The person I choice to interview this week just like last week is also someone I turn to when I am faced with questions and concerns regarding all of my biblical classes and sometimes just personal spiritual questions. That person is my pastor and my father in law who has been a southern Baptist preacher for over thirty years. Of those thirty years he has only been pastor of two churches both, which have been very successful while he was and is presently the pastor. When we talk about anything and everything overall we have a great relationship. I choose to interview him this week because I knew he would be able to show me the more experienced side of his ministry because of his years of serving the lord.…
