Music is the highs, mids and lows of audio. It is when the vibrations that travel through that make sound turn into patterns an artist likes or the artists target audience likes. Many artists have used music as a way of trying to make a connection with the listener by incorporating storytelling elements into their verses. Artists also structured songs in a way that allows them to express their emotions in a song. There are very few artists that have the ability to communicate an actual message, capture emotions and share them with the public while still maintaining the listeners attention .…
Rachmaninoff stated, “Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.” Essential to all nationalities, generations, and people, music can make your soul soar, put you to sleep, or bring you to your knees in tears. All din and clamor goes silent. Every eye is riveted on the conductor. The baton lifts. Suddenly, in a myriad of melodies, harmonies, timbre, and texture, a whole new realm is unraveled. The extraordinary feeling of unwinding and renewing your mind by listening to the flow of music is inexpressible. Nothing compares.…

Walking into the band room for the first time, the sound of every instrument being poorly played by fourth graders suffocated the room. The squeal of saxophones and blaring bass of tubas made it impossible to hear the instructions being given by the band director. However, none of that mattered to me. All I could do was to stare at the only thing in the room that was able to grasp my attention: a shiny, red drum set. I migrated to the back corner of the room where it sat unoccupied, took my place on the stool, picked up some sticks, and immediately felt at home. At that moment, it was clear to me that playing music was what I was meant to do.…
My love for music began in middle school. At that time, I was socially awkward with very few friends. To compensate, I buried myself in music. My dedication led to many honors and admiration from my peers. However, when I got to high school, my relationship with music fundamentally changed. The arrival of an overly demanding teacher coupled with a long episode of depression robbed me of my passion to play. As time progressed, the pain I felt became too much to bear, and I became desperate for an outlet in which I could express myself positively. My quest led me to music once more, but classical was no longer the genre of choice. It was in hip hop and rap music that I found the will to overcome mental illness.…
Her eyes glistened with a repulsive gleam of a smile on her face. I walked slowly hearing the whispering of my socks against the floor. It was that time again, piano lesson. Mrs. Zhang looked at me and smirked eerily. I sighed and took my place on the on the bench, close enough to smell my teacher. I put my shaking hands on the keys and began.…

The general attire of the audience was casual among the younger attendees where the older attendees were more formal where I wore kaki cargos and a black french cuffed shirt. there were a lot of ties stock button ups was the main shirt worn, very few informal outfits that evening. The age range of the audience was possibly around age 15 to age 80 give or take a few years, most of the people who showed up were college students though the rest was made up, of about 16 or so, elderly couples.…

Music is vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. But music is much more than sounds, tones, and combinations. Furthermore, Music can be a very powerful source in someone's life. I know music. There is not a single important memory I have that is not tied to a song, a genre, or an instrument. I met my first best friend through EDM and for my fifteenth birthday I received my first record player. Long, mundane car rides with my dad remind me of classic rock on FM radio, and the memories of my little sister loving pop music since she was old enough to crawl will forever have a special place in my heart.…
I was diagnosed with depression when I was thirteen years old. I didn't tell my parents until one year after I discovered my affliction. I often wallowed in self pity, For the next three years, I thought I was never good enough. I finally realised the road I was going on, was not where I wanted to be on. I would put such little effort into the things I would do, I felt useless. Despite not knowing who I was at the time, I knew I wasn’t going to let depression define me. I'm not saying that I now (present day) know exactly who I am, but I am definitely close to finding out, more than I was.…
