To accomplish my goal I did some refreshment my nursing skill and producers before clinical. I reviewed my nursing skill and procedure to refresh my brain about how to administer parental injection, the right site for IM and S/C, and size and length of needles. I reviewed my health and physical assessment videos and review my nursing skill notes how to assess head to toe and pain scale, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and CIWA Scale which helped me a lot to refresh my skills. Also, I looked up my previous clinical worksheets which reminded me some nursing diagnosis and…
Nearing the end of the tube I can almost see the shore, It feels as if I've been riding this wave for days. This wave is my hurdle in the ocean that is life, choppy at the beginning but slowly passing by. The ocean has many waves, one for each surfer to ride, my specialty wave happened to be dyslexia. It was in the second grade that my teacher first realized I was different from the other students, because I had yet to read my first book. My parents had found this odd as well, and took me to see a neurologist, who diagnosed me as having dyslexia. I did not quite know what this meant at the time, I only knew that it was the reason I could not comprehend the topics as easily as my classmates.…
Meditation may not have been something I had ever thought of turning to, but when we worked in school time on it; my mind changed. Having the guidance of Natasha was a huge step in my spiritual journey and it motivated me to open my mind to new things. When we completed our first meditation, I became more aware of how I was really feeling on the inside. I went home and reflected on my experience, excited for our next Religion lesson, where I could try a new type of meditation and work with it to suit my needs.…
With ever story of victory, comes a drowning idea of failure. Throughout our live, these battles are fought, taking not only mental strength, but physical as well. Some of these battles are chosen, while the rest flank from behind. With this in mind, a story of victory must be told, on behalf of my Aunt, Joenell. Her battle took place in April, of 2009, she went to the Suttee Delta hospital, in Antioch California for a doctor’s visit, for fear that something was wrong, during this visit she informed her doctor that she felt a not on her left breast. Soon after, she had a mammogram, and an ultrasound done, revealing three cancerous lumps. As the doctor went into detail, she started to realize the gravity of the situation. For the first time; at the age of 59, she was confronted with the most life threating event she had ever faced. So for a second opinion, she went to the Epic Cancer center, also in Antioch California. Certainly, the last thing anyone would like to hear during a doctor’s visit, she knew there would be some decisions to be made, time to study up.…
After my first migraine attack, I kept getting them every day. As they kept happening, new symptoms would arise. Anything from slurred speech, dizziness, and vomiting to blurred vision, numbness in the face, and feeling tender all over my body. The list goes on but these were my most common symptoms. I was afraid to do anything because everything seemed to trigger a migraine. Even kneeling down to pick something up or smelling perfume would be an instant trigger for me. My life got to the point where I wasn’t able to enjoy watching television. I had to adjust the brightness so low that I couldn’t see what was happening. My social life declined tremendously. Spending time with my friends and family wasn’t an option for me anymore since I woke…

While medical care was available growing up, there were financial or situational periods where it was not necessarily accessible. I am from a single parent family. My mother moved in with my grandparents after her divorce and works two full time jobs to help provide for my brother, grandparents, and I. Since my father went to jail and my grandfather passed, we have had to make many adjustments financially. This was the case due to my father not providing payments for child support for the time he was incarcerated nor occasional months prior. There has also been a complication with my mother and I having our identity stolen, which has created additional problems when applying for governmental aid throughout my undergraduate years. I worked…
What are migraine headaches? Where do they come from? How can you help prevent them?…
Right after the start of my junior year, I found out that a former teammate of mine had been in a car accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury.…
“WHOA WHOA WHOA THIS IS BALONEY MAN!” that is something I say whenever I am frustrated. People have always told me sometimes the best way to learn something is through failure. People value things they have accomplished differently. Often the people whom are naturally adept at things do not realize how much of a struggle it can be for others. Many times when people have told me that if you are going to fall, fall forward. Do not let your insecurities, doubts, and pride get in the way of improving yourself. In brief, there can always be a way to improve yourself.…
Something that changed me and let me be the person who I am today is friendship. Friends can raise you high above the skies. Or, they can pull you down under the ground.…
Cancer has affected my life on a personal level: it has taken a toll on my grandfather’s life as well as my great-grandfather’s life. Both of these great men were diagnosed with leukemia. My grandfather lost his battle when I was just four years old, yet it is still fresh in my mind even today the the age of 16. Don, my great-grandfather has been living with leukemia for several years now, partially due to the fact that it has been dormant. Every day it pains me to see my eighty-six year old great grandpa with this disease, I just with that I could take away his anguish. My great-grandpa pretends that his condition does not bother him, but only because he does not want the rest of the family to fret. Five years ago, when I was in sixth grade, one of my…

When I was in middle school, I constantly got hurt but that never stopped me from trying. I always kept on going; I wanted to try harder even if I got hurt. I never gave up. People always told me that I couldn’t do it or you should stop doing what you’re doing, but I never listened because I believed that I could accomplish what I wanted.…
