Personal Narrative: I Am A Californian
I am a Californian. I am a family member. I am a friend. I am a student. I am a book lover. I am a music lover. I am shy. I am a dreamer. I am ambitious. I am smart. These are the top ten self concept aspects that represent me. I choose these aspects because these are the things that impacted my life the most or how I believe myself to be. For example, the most obvious one for me was that I am a Californian, I lived there most of my life and just recently moved to Splendora. However, I do still consider that my home because that is where I became who I am and it impacted my life the most. Also on that note, when I lived in California, I spent most of my time or vacations with my relatives, these people taught me important things I needed to

Back in the summer of 2013 my family was deciding on what vacation we should go on. It took us until July to finally decide where we wanted to go and we chose San Diego. At the time I didn’t know where San Diego was and frankly I thought we were going to Florida. When we got in the car and started to drive I was very confused on the fact we were not going to an airport. On the eight hour car ride there it took my family around an hour and a half to explain that we were not going to Florida.…

The city that I come from is not a representation of who I am. Pomona, California is known for it’s high crime rights, and all around gang violence. It is troublesome not to fall through the cracks when the temptation is all around my community. Growing accustom to this environment makes it that much easier to fall a victim into this lifestyle. At the age of 15, for the first time in my life, I experienced a retaliation drive by up the street from where I sleep, the place I call home. That night I heard a total of five gunshots, and was later informed the gun shots left two family friends paralyzed. One is now paralyzed from the neck down, and the other from the waist down. The two victims were sisters, and were not the main target. The shots…

One day I came home from school and saw a moving truck in front of my home. The first thing I did was find my parents to ask them if we were moving. They both said yes, all of us are moving to Fresno California. I was afraid because I had lived in Modesto my entire life and was very comfortable here. I knew my way around Modesto and especially my school where I had many friends and knew the teachers well. Modesto, after all, is my hometown and now I'm transferring to a foreign place. When all of us arrived in Fresno we stayed there a couple of weeks and realized the house had a huge amount of issues such as with leaking water pipes, a broken heater and a variety of other problems. My dad said “Maybe we are not meant to live here”. Finally…

I was not actually raised in the South, I moved to Arkansas about three years ago. Although it’s only been a short time, the experience has changed me. Career choices are much more emphasized here compared to my last school in Sacramento. Professional certifications in anything from Computer Engineering to Cosmetology is offered. It has made me more earnest in pursuing a profession in networking. The environment around here aids in that; Conway is pretty rural compared to Sacramento. Any fun distractions like museums or malls are quite far so I always end up cooped up at home, leaving me to focus better on my studies.…

With the life I’ve lived, it’s quite difficult to choose a singular primal landscape. I’ve lived on the white sand beaches of the former Gold Coast; in the hospitable heart of the Lone Star State; in the open minded Golden State; and currently, in Alberta. All of these places have given me a place to call home but in particular, I would say that I am most connected with San Leandro, California.…

Moving is hard, especially when you go from North Carolina to California. My mom said i’ll be alright so did my brother but now I don't know. I heard great things about Pescadero, California like how few tourist are there, the open beaches and hiking spot. But isn’t that what all apartments say to get you to pack and come running to “The Golden State”. All I can think about is turning back and running to Mama’s arm and crying on my annoying brother Luther’s shoulder.…

I am American. I was born in the United States America. Being an American has various meanings for me. It means I have endless opportunities. It means that I have a standard to uphold. And finally, it means that I am very lucky. When I think of America, I think of the blood and tears that was shed in order to make this beloved country. I think of the Revolutionary war and the thousands of fathers, brothers, and uncles that stood up, fought, and died for freedom. I think of the Civil War, and the bravery and nobility that was shown when fighting for what people believed in. I think of the 20th century, when technological innovation was at its height, and the great working minds that gave us what we know today. I think of World War Two and the…

I dislike being asked “Where are you from?” because I do not consider myself from any specific place. I have moved around several times as a child, which has given me the opportunity to meet different kinds of people each from distinct walks of life. Being faced with the challenge of meeting new people has taught how to come out of my comfort zone at any given moment. The experiences I have had in life has caused me to become an outgoing, hardworking, and very multicultural person.…

Imagine being stripped away from everything you knew: your childhood friends; cousins you thought you'd always have with you, and places you called your second, third, or even fourth home. That is exactly what I went through when my family decided to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. What's different about my experience was that it wasn't necessarily the move that flipped my world upside down but everything that happened in between. I was an awkward, shy, midget-like twelve-year-old when my family and I lost our home during the California money crisis. From that point on it was like a tumbling circus act. My parents ended up losing their jobs until finally my dad moved to New Mexico; leaving me and my family for almost a year. The last thing…
