Intro Sentence: Survivors are aplenty in our world today, they are kind-hearted and humbled individuals who are stronger than the most robust athlete.
Background: Survivors are mentally strong, the amount of surgeries, medications and numerous doctors they had to converse with proves that they are the pure definition of toughness. Those who have been affected by a chronic illness are just as strong, if not stronger than those who can bench well over 400 pounds at a time.
Thesis: I am very proud to call myself a survivor of a chronic disease, that affected me at a very young age, because of family and faith I overcame my hardships.

This confirms God can perform miracles. Despite all my success, I still have struggles in my life, some will be harder to overcome than others. First, I still have to sleep with a ventilator as I have sleep apnea. This makes it difficult for me to stay overnight with friends, as they may not be used to sleeping with a very disturbing machine such as my ventilator. Also, this past summer my doctor told my mom and I that I had permanent lung damage. As a result I have to do chest clapping two times per day to prevent my lungs from getting any worse. Unfortunately I more likely than not have to live with these setbacks for the rest of my life. Considering how far I have come since I was a little nugget, I am blessed to have only a few hindrances.
Transition: As you can see, past occurrences have plagued my health but I still remain a positive person and accept who I am.
Conclusion
Thesis: In having a caring family and a stable faith, I have been able to overcome many obstacles since being diagnosed with encephalitis at 8 months old.
Closing Info: Going into my higher education at Concordia University in Wisconsin, I'm positive my slight difference in appearance will draw many pairs of eyes my direction. But once people get to know me and are aware of the battles I have survived, they will come to respect my strength and perseverance. At the same time I am making friends, I will still keep family and God in my life as I will need guidance very often as college is no walk in the park. I am looking forward to the road that lies
