Personal Narrative: Kelsea Ballerini

My daughter has always been a huge music fan, especially country music. She follows many performers on social media and never misses a chance to watch an awards show or see a concert. Last year, she got the chance to meet Kelsea Ballerini, an artist whom she finds completely inspirational.

My mother had gotten us tickets to see Chris Young, but we did not know who the opening performers would be. After school, we headed out to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, and we just made it in time for the opening of the show. When Kelsea Ballerini took the stage, my daughter was completely in awe.

At the end of the opening set, Kelsea told the crowd that she would be meeting with fans and taking pictures at the back of the theater area. My daughter begged me to let her go back there to get in line. While her brother and cousins were taking an opportunity to grab food and drinks, she waited, and waited, and waited for a chance to meet Kelsea.

She talked with Kelsea about what it was like to be a musician and about the performances that they had each participated in. She got her picture taken with her own phone, and called her brother over to get a picture with his phone too, just in case.

When the performance was over, she posted the picture to her Instagram account and thanked Kelsea online for taking time out to visit with fans. She got a little sad when she found out that she could have purchased a CD at the concert that could have been used to get into a fan after party. However, the next morning when she saw that Kelsea had “liked” her photo on Instagram, the world was right
