Personal Narrative: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands
I belong to a small island community, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands. This small island in the Pacific Ocean is home to a United States military base where my parents work as government contractors. I attend the only high school with my small graduating class of 13. I have lived here for just over a year, but I have easily involved myself with the community and created relationships with fascinating people. This island is home to about 1,000 people; many move frequently and a rare few have spent most of their life here. I participate in my high school’s sports teams which play other adult teams as the island is mostly working adults. I have ridden my bike around every inch of the island that I am allowed and developed a hunger for adventure.

The Penascola Gulf Islands in Florida are pretty much your average definition of paradise. The area is known for the most beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise blue waters. The beach stretches for miles along the Gulf of Mexico, full of people constructing hammocks to lie in the warm sun, standing for hours fishing, and many many others jumping around the waves and surfing or swimming in the calm waters. These islands are essentially a strip of land completely surrounded by water, which means you’ll get a good view wherever you go. With many resorts, restaurants, and coastal areas, these islands have all you need.…

As someone who has lived in Cumberland House, Saskatchewan and Terrace, British Columbia, this wasn't my first Pow Wow. I will say I don't remember going to any in Cumberland House as I was only two when we lived there, but I there are quite a few funny pictures of me, a chubby blond haired blue eyed baby in my pink jacket sitting among all the brown skinned, brown eyed, and black haired Native babies. I do however remember going to Pow Wows in Terrace. These two places are very different from each other, the Costal peoples having very different traditions from the Plains peoples.…

I never realized how lucky I was to be granted such a stupendous life until I saw the poverty some people live in. Over the summer, I was fortunate enough to be able to take an ephemeral trip to Nassau, Bahamas. It was much different than I imagined it would be. I remember walking around and almost being frighten to leave my parents sides. There were natives on every street corner trying to con their way into you spending money on their fake product; there were people going through the trash looking for food; there were people sitting on the street with all their belongings tied up to their bicycle street. You could just tell this country was nowhere near as advanced as the United States. It was nothing like the pictures and it got me thinking of the gloomy lives these children will have to grow up in and all the opportunities that they don't have available here.…

Back when I was a littlun, my daddy worked in the meat factory and mama stayed at home cleaning the house and making me my dinner. My parents wanted me to be a smarty, so they made me go to school. They also said I was a good singer, so I decided to join the boys choir. Me and my best bud Charles would go down to the river to skip rocks, but sometimes we would go play chicken on the railroad tracks. Sometimes daddy would say “Stephen, wanna come a huntin with me?” and I would tag along behind him while he hunted for pheasant. I never really listened to daddy’s rules, so he decided to send me off to some fancy boarding school. It was at this point in my life where everything started taking a turn for the worst.…

Cloning is a naturally occurring phenomenon, as well as a human induced process. A clone is a living organism deriving from another, with identical set of genes. A naturally occurring anthropological example of a clone would be twins, a set of individuals with identical DNA. A laboratory-induced clone would be stem cell production and animal cloning. In the movie The Island by Michael Bay, the concept of cloning is used as a life insurance policy to elongate the life of a natural born individual. This medical use of cloning has been under the experimental stage for quite sometime now and under ethical question. There are three different ways of cloning, recombinant DNA technology or DNA cloning, reproductive cloning, and therapeutic cloning.…

Born in Honolulu ,Hawaii on the island of Oahu, I lived there for two and a half years. At almost three years old I moved to a small town in the San Joaquin Valley; Hanford, California. I've grown up in a nice home in a well located area in Hanford. But growing up in Hanford I know only what I have seen here and learned about from inside the community. I didn't know much about Hawaii besides being born there and that my grandparents live there. But years later in the summer of 2014, I took a trip to back to the islands of Hawaii.…

The world trembled when America dropped the atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The world trembled once again years later, but this time to the heavy steps of Godzilla. Along with him came his highly radioactive body leaving trails of radioactive residue. His main abilities were his plasma breath ray, immunity to normal weapons, giant strength, and he can reproduce a-sexually. He was created for a horror movie that showed the effect of what worried the Japanese at the time- Nuclear weapons. In the movie, he represents pure evil, destroying everything in his path. He is, however, only a product of mankind, and cannot help that fact. What drew the great beast from the ocean depths? Godzilla was created by H-Bomb testing at Bikini Atoll, 1954. The director of the film was inspired after the radioactive fallout from the test scorched a Japanese fishing vessel, The Lucky Dragon, with deadly effects. They were supposedly in a "safe" zone. Many of its crew were seriously burned and despite intensive medical care, one man on the Lucky Dragon died from radiation sickness. In the Godzilla movie, originally named Gojira, the director ended the movie with a lesson that the American producer cut out. After the failure of conventional arms, a horrible but non-atomic weapon puts an end to Godzilla's wrath, and unlike the Americans and their H-bombs, the Japanese destroy the secret of their super-weapon, saving future generations. Why did they cut that out? Could it have anything to do with the biological weapons testing on Bikini Atoll?…

The following is a brief overview of how the novel is separated by the author in four main parts. It is important to emphasize the fact that, although this breakdown seems clear enough, Mailer makes a very distinct use of flashbacks and time references can get the reader lost, therefore demanding strict focus from the reader in order to keep pace with the various characters and events that unfold throughout the novel.…

The memory of my first big move is still fresh in my mind. I remember rushing to school, excited to tell my friends the news: I was moving from New Jersey to Phoenix, Arizona! After I brought my friends up to date, I proudly displayed my new disposable camera. Together we took many pictures, some of them meaningful and some comical. There were pictures of myself smiling and giggling with my friends and some of my teacher’s feet. As the moving date was slowly approaching, I began to feel resentment. I started hating the idea of moving to a new unknown place where I would have no friends. As it turned out, making new friends was not as hard as I thought because I was younger and I chose my friends superficially. However, I did have to learn to adapt to a new school and curriculum. I was not…
