Personal Narrative: Lettuce Live Well
Throughout my high school experience, the one memory I remember the most that helped me the most would have to be the time I interned at a local non-profit, Lettuce Live Well. I decided that I needed to encounter more challenges in my life; as if my life wasn’t challenging enough. I decided to work with a non-profit because I knew I would get all the experience I can get while getting to work head on with the local community; this was what made it all worth it. The one place that I found I can get the most experience while still connecting with the local community was an organization call Lettuce Live Well. Lettuce Live Well is a local non-profit. They help promote health and wellness while offering free nutritional coaching, free grocery

Before starting my college education, I worked for over 6 years at Mitchell & Ness, a multi-million dollar retail clothing company and store in Philadelphia, extensively in their inventory department. I spent time during the year working with our various warehouse managers to investigate the root cause of inventory adjustments. Working in a position that required attention to detail further taught me ways to improve my problem-solving skills and give me a change to work independently as well as in a team environment. Being able to grow with that company from working on their retail sales floor to their corporate office gave me a full view of the company’s day to day operations and gave me a better perspective on work.…

There was this big order produce had coming up and at the time there were very little people clocking hours in the produce department. I had fun with this experience learning to cute fruit in all different shapes and objects. It was like we were making the fruit come…

During the course of my high school career, I have developed a strong passion for the organization named the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). FCCLA is a Career and Technical Student Organization that focuses on building students into better leaders for their families, careers, and communities. Furthermore, FCCLA teaches students practical skills that will be useful throughout their lifetimes. This organization has become an important part of my life because it has shaped me into the leader I am today. I began in the organization as a member and participant in competitive events, I have now worked my way up to being my chapter’s President and the Missouri State First Vice President. My leadership experience in FCCLA, especially my experience as a member of the Missouri State…

The components of citizenship, community service, academics, work and home life, and extracurricular actives help me shine as a well-rounded individual. As an involved and caring citizen in the Union Township community, I do my best to make my mark. Displaying a good role as a citizen through community service has been a value I possessed ever since I could remember. At a young age, I started to serve my community with my parents at both school and church events and it has stuck with me since. Through community service such as being an assistant teacher in St. Veronica’s Religious Education Program, Glen Este High School’s member of National Honors Society, and Key Club, I not only helped out Union Township but I have also made new relationships and feel good about myself. Community service always makes me feel better because I know I’m helping others and making my mark through the friends I have made through both of these service programs.…

The most rewarding work experience that I have had was to work as a volunteer for the International office at Northern Virginia Community College. Personally, I considered volunteering responsible work because it requires time effort and commitment. Working as a volunteer with the International Office was meaningful to me because I was able to assist so many students in achieving their dream of obtaining an American college education. I was able to help the International Students and to give them a better understanding of the resources that NOVA offers to international students. Furthermore, my responsibility was to arrange student get-togethers and in so doing build a sense of community and cohesion. My purpose for volunteering was to assist international students, many of whom are away from home with very little support at a very young age, with making a smooth transition in to a new coulter. This is particularly important to me because I am a dual citizen of America and Pakistan and understand the difficulty of assimilating into a new culture.…

For instance, in the spring 2016 semester I volunteered with the American Red Cross and I encouraged other residents to volunteer as a community service program. Another program that I executed was titled, "Can you survive?" The program took place around Halloween, so I included a mysterious theme to make it more entertaining for residents. The program consisted of deadly scenarios (i.e. the zombie apocalypse and a plane crash) to teach residents how to effectively work together. This program, and several of the other educational programs I facilitated, let residents learn in a fun and educational setting. Through these programs I developed strong and amicable relationships with residents, which helped me to better assist them when they were…

Lettuce Live Well was created in 2014 by Kelly Zielinski and Ashley Logan. Zielinski and Logan met during their undergraduate years at Michigan State University where they studied dietetics. Both always had a passion for health and wellness and received their degrees to spread knowledge about the importance of healthy living. After graduating from Michigan State, Zielinski moved to the Metro Detroit area to begin her career as a nutritional coach. Working with a local hospital she was amazed at how little people knew about their bodies and the food they were eating. She was especially concerned with those from lower income groups who did not have access to the nutritional coaching provided at the hospital or any other avenues of finding information…

Yet, the various organizations at Austin College sparked my interest, and slowly but surely I began to get involved. Although I have been overwhelmed at times, I quickly learned that being involved in the Sherman community and Austin College’s organizations have become a vital part of my college experience. My experience in these short 7 months have taught me the value of service and being involved. When I performed service events in the past, it was to gain service hours and build up a résumé. Now I serve because helping others give me a genuinely great feeling. My involvement in organizations has helped me to develop character traits such as, integrity, leadership, and service, and other traits that simply cannot be taught in a classroom. I know that these everlasting seeds of integrity, service, and leadership will continue to flourish well beyond college.…

While at Syracuse University, I have had the opportunity to grow while being able to give to a community that has welcomed me. I have been working with the Literacy Corps for almost two years and it has enabled me to augment my skills in leadership, communication and in becoming an overall better person and professional. It was not until, the end of my Sophomore year when I joined Sallisaw Youth Coalition(SYC), that I realized that this small town has plenty to offer its citizens. It may not offer malls or luxurious restaurants but it offers all that it can manage for its residents. From the moment I affiliated with SYC, I became involved with activities in my community that I didn't even know existed. The more active I became with SYC the more my perception of the town changed. I began to see the town as a supportive friendly environment. If I accomplished anything from growing up in a small town it's learning that you truly can't judge a book by its' cover. This town may appear horrible and hopeless but the heart of this town is its warm generous people who care to improve it. Many of the warm generous people are the teachers that want to witness their students succeed in life. I dedicate my academic success to my wonderful instructors. My exceptional teachers taught me that if you apply yourself to the difficulties at hand you will develop skills that will advance your knowledge in the future. This advice is kept close to my heart and serves as a support when tasks seem challenging. My ambitions for becoming a script/screenwriter are usually diminished or frowned upon…

Spelman College’s motto, A Choice to Change the World, mirrors my goal as a member of this intellectual community. During my first year at this institution, I dedicated myself to several hours of community service. I found that this was a vital part of my intellectual growth as both a student and person within society. This year I volunteered for several nonprofit organizations, however I dedicated most of my time to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Before volunteering for this organization I was not quite sure how I would be able to make a significant difference in my community. However, when I volunteered for this organization, I was able to tremendously help people in Atlanta. Likewise, this experience opened my eyes to the increasing…

My second week at my internship I learned and worked with the different groups of people that volunteer at Cradles to Crayons. At Cradles to Crayons it is seasonal switch, which means the agency was switches all their spring/summer supplies to their fall/winter supplies. It was a lot of heavy lifting and organizing the clothes by gender and sizes. I worked with the volunteers and workers at Cradles to Crayons to complete the seasonal switch. I got to see how much is donated to this agency, which is a lot. It was a nice experience because I got to meet a lot of the people that work at Cradles to Crayons. I also worked with another intern and we worked with partner relations, we gave the case managers their deliveries for the week.…
