Personal Narrative: Listening To My Life
Soundtrack to my Life

There are many songs that I enjoy listening to whether I’m sitting in a car, or walking to school. I always enjoy the fact that there are many genres and types of songs to choose from these days. There were many songs that which I choose were the most favorite and close ones to me, but out of all of them, I choose three that was based on my favorite and which topic was the most important to me.
The first section that I choose was “Fighting” and the song that I represented it was called “Go Hard Ft. Kanye & T-pain”. This song is like a classic to me based on the rhythm and tone (and along with the artists). This song always gets me pumped up to keep on fighting in any situation with friends, school work, and mainly

I am not going to start this off with a quote because that's what everyone else is doing. I am Avery Peak and I hate doing things someone has already done. I like being creative in my own way, that's why I have a grain shoot for an exhaust in my truck and rolling on 37inch mud tires.…

    Mi Gente Song Analysis

One of the songs I chose is named “Mi Gente”, which is an Urban Latin/pop song which is frequently played at South-American parties (From personal experience). Mi Gente is an upbeat song which happens to be in the top 20 songs in Canada. I feel this song relates to me on a personal level in multiple ways. For instance, listening to the song with no meaning other than to enjoy the song, it would probably sound pleasant or delightful. Though if you examine the lyrics thoroughly, you will uncover the deeper meaning (one example being “From corner to corner, but I have it in my hand”). This song exemplifies me because maybe the first couple times you meet me, I might seem calm or ordinary, but if you really…

The fifth song I picked is Your and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey. I chose this song because it’s all about being vulnerable. “Will you still love me, when I'm no longer young and beautiful? Will you still love me, when I got nothing but my aching soul?” These lyrics display how vulnerable she is. It makes you think what will happen in…

Over the course of my long life (or lives depending on how you look at it) I have been known by many names. And not all of them translate exactly. My latest and last one is Gracen. I do not know how old I am, nor do I really care. All that matters is that I get two square meals a day and a warm bed at night. An occasional pet behind the ears is nice too. It’s times like this, late at night in my bed, when I reminisce back to where it all began.…

As a particularly curious and proactive member of society, I consider myself to be civically engaged; although the degree of engagement can be argued. Personally, I believe that small things make up the larger picture, so my engagement is mostly interpersonal, as small interactions can set of chain reactions. Speaking out on issues with (or to) friends, politely engaging strangers in conversations and presenting different points of view, and constantly seeking to better myself is how I remain aware and knowledgeable on current issues, and also how I continue to learn new things and refine my thoughts. Not everyone is born to take center stage, and so we must all strive to do what we can, even if it’s simply a few words of encouragement or a…

My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. In high school, my mother wanted to play football and couldn't because she was a girl and back-in-the-day women were not allowed to play football with the guys. However, she remained strong by raising 6 kids and independently took care of all of us on her own. My mother has several qualities that I would love to develop. The first quality she has is balance; she certainly knows how to make…

Two years ago, on a cold Saturday morning, I prepared for my first ever track tryout. I took a shower, put on my clothes, and got into the car. On my way to practice, I felt strong physically, but I also had an undefined, jittery feeling about how the day was going to go.…

Everyone loves music, doesn’t matter who you are, you will find someone or yourself listening to music rather you’re in a good mood or bad. You also have a favorite song that you will listen to anytime of the day cause you love it so much. I listen to music a lot and for my project I chose two songs, the first song is Pualena by Vika and My House by Flo Rida. I chose Pualena because the song evokes love and happy feelings. This song is about love and how beautiful something or someone is that it can drive you crazy and take your breath away.…

My musical composition portrays my emotion when I am running in a race. Before a race begins, my heart pounds and there is anticipation. Therefore, the beginning of the musical composition utilizes the Ghostly Sub Bass.1 and Shaker 01.1 to depict that anxious feeling I have. The Ghostly Sub Bass sounds like my heart thumping loudly, due to nervousness, and the Shaker resembles the adrenaline I have when the gunshots fire and I have to race out of the starting line. After these beats, the Shine Bright Piano.4 begins to play and this resembles my calmness as I get into a comfortable fast pace. The beats progressively pick up with the Brass Brigade Beat.1 and the Rev it Up Beat.7. This quick transition illustrates the pain and the quickness my feet as I have reached the half-way point of the race.…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

Traveling into the Indian Territory, we were being angrily chased down by three Indians furiously shouting at us. Dashing through the thick forest, the savage Indians were throwing spears and shooting arrows that narrowly missed us. Although neither Gideon nor I was mortally injured, I did suffer from a nick from an arrow piercing near my ear. Thankfully, a group of burly fur traders approached from the side, which frightened the Indians to run away. Acknowledging that Gideon and I were inexperienced travelers in the west, they offered us protection in exchange for some valuable possessions. As a consequence, knowing that they were our best alternative for survival, we gave them our antique gold pocket watches and assumed the identities of novice fur traders. From that point on, we followed them through the west and adopted their skills for efficiently hunting animals and keeping warm in the harsh, cold weather. During one of our rest points, we approached a large Cherokee settlement located in Park Hill in which our group leader was friends with the Cherokee leader John Ross.…

Most teenagers do not have a clue about what they want to be when they grow up. Most young adults also do not know where their path is in life. Even some full-blown adults are still trying to figure out their purpose. I was lucky. I knew exactly where I belonged from about the time I was seven up until now, at the decently young age of nineteen. I do not see my path changing anytime soon; in fact, I know it will never change. But, I did not just wake up one day as a child and know what my path was, while that would be impressive. Defining moments in one’s life defines who they are. There were lots of things I experienced in my life that made me realize my purpose, my absolute passion. I had four of these defining moments in my short span of…
