Personal Narrative: Living In East Harlem
I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t like to sit in traffic; I’m the kind of guy that could sit in the cockpit of a plane and go high speed where falling isn’t an option because once you fall you can’t get up. As I a child all of could think of was being successful because growing up living in east Harlem you saw the people that weren’t going anywhere in life and you see where that got them in life. Growing up I have saw people not finish school and people who were in school for a very long time to get one degree. Many people in my family have either not graduated or still in college my aunt for example took her about six years to finish a two year degree because she constantly messed up and stop going to school and when back and procrastinated …show more content…
That dream was rapidly killed by my parents, who wants their child in the air force? After that dream was no longer an option I had to think of a plan B. my plan B is to go to college for aviation. Throughout my child hood all I wanted to do was to travel the world. But coming from a family where money for travel was hard because bills were high anywhere in the city travel rarely an option sometimes not an option. It’s like grabbing candy from a little kid who really wanted it. Aviation will be an essential part of my life this will allow me to go visit place that I wanted to go all my life and that feeling would be like the child receiving the candy you grabbed …show more content…
Traffic is when you’re stuck and no one wants to be stuck or delayed anywhere because when you’re stuck your wasting time and time is money so that means your also losing money. I love planes they can bring you to places where you have never seen before it opens up opportunities of a life time you can explore different cultures and different landscapes. Being around planes means a lot because the most significant event that ever has happened to America was the landing on the moon and the way to the moon was by an air

This poem expresses the general emotion of African Americans during the early 1900's. America has known as the land of opportunity, where dreams come true. However, for African Americans during this time, this was not the case. While technically free, racism, poverty, and social injustices abound, making it difficult if not impossible to actually achieve these dreams...thus, their dreams have been "deferred". This poem addresses that frustration, and ponders possible reactions from having your opportunities robbed. Do you give up? Do you become angry? Do you become complacent? To me, the last line is very powerful, because it refers to the fact that people can only be held down so long before they revolt, or "explode". In the Poem Harlem by…

Does the amount of funding a school receives affect the quality of education a school can provide in the United States? Because academic opportunities require sufficient funding, do schools with more funding have more opportunities for the students? Do schools that have more funding receive a superior education compared to low funded schools? As a student from a small, underfunded school, I observed my friends from the next town over attend a large, highly funded school with an abundance of resources. Perhaps the amount of funding a school receives affects the quantity of resources and the quality of education.…

As many people believe, you can't succeed in aviation unless you have a strong passion for it. I have always loved to fly, I can't think of one time where I have not been excited to board an airliner, even for a 12 hour flight returning from a perfect vacation in Alaska! Everything about flying appeals to my senses; the pressure sensation on my back as the aircraft barrels down the runway and lifts off, the jet engine spooling noises during takeoff, and even the distinctive jet fuel scent that fills the cabin when the turbofans are being started are just a few examples. I also love everything about an aircraft itself; the appearance, and instruments, controls and systems that successfully drive the aircraft increase my interest in airliners. All of these aspects about aviation further strengthen my desire to become a pilot. When watching aviation videos online, the sounds of the flight deck together with the sounds of the engines while the pilot lands the aircraft perfectly all combine together into one strong feeling of awe that takes over my mind. I really love everything about flying and airliners, and want to operate them for my…

I am outside today with a couple other S.S. Soldiers we saw a Jewish man who had some weird curls so we decided to stop him and surround him and make fun of his hair and outfit. Many of the S.S. Soldiers have taken over homes of the Jews. Also today is the last day for all the Jews to move into the ghetto. While the Jews are walking to the ghetto some kids are standing on the sidewalk while screaming and throwing things at them one girl was even screaming “Goodbye Jews.” Once the Jews got into the Ghetto many of us were sitting or standing in the snow giving all the Jews their cards.…

I lived in a small town named Harlem, and it was nice in the summer, but it ends up getting too hot in the summers. Most people here are people hanging out windows, people on fire escapes, and anywhere trying to get a cool breeze. Harlem was a town that you could get a job for a day and that's it pretty much it. I loved playing the saxophone, so I tried to use that to get money but it didn't work as well as I planned. My dad says I should get a part-time job, but I wanted full time to get extra money. I finally got a job at this business and I finally thought it would have been great. Then after awhile, it started to get harder to wake up and get to work. Then I meet Fats and that's when everything went south. Fats was someone that had a bootleg…

It was March 13, 2003 and I could hardly sleep the night before with anticipation, I hadn't gone on a trip in two years and I was a little nervous. It would be the 1st time I would fly since September 11, 2001 and the whole thing made me uneasy. I double-checked what I packed, shook off the nervousness and began to get ready for bed. Falling asleep was the furthest thing from my mind but slowly as I thought of things to do I drifted into a deep sleep.…

Through out my middle school years, my love for flying kept on growing and with the guidance from my parents, I started selecting courses that would help me build the basis for more advanced aviation related courses in the future. I started taking extra curricular activities such as map reading, studying advances in the field of aviation and making model airplanes. I also started reading books written by veteran pilots sharing their life long experiences, do’s and don’ts and explaining best possible choices to become a pilot.…

In my case I grew up in Dorchester, MA in a rough inner city neighborhood. Most of the people I was raised around are either dead, in jail, or stuck in the street life and feel they have no choice and it's to late to get out. Fortunately for me despite the area I was raised in I lived in a household full of hard workers. My parents were both hard working people that bought there first home after being in the United States for only four years. My sister didn't fall far from the tree, she was a excellent high school student and went on to get her bachelors degree in music education at Berklee college of music and is now a music teacher. Even though I was raised in a hard working household my environment still affected me in some way making me some what lazy when it came to education. I felt like there was other…

People say you have to attend college too actually succeed in life. Most of the celebrities we see on TV probably did not attend college or maybe not even finish high school. Probably most of them weren’t straight A students if they did attended high school or college. The point is, you don’t always need to pursue your goals through education in order to succeed. When I was a senior in high school, I had this friend named Alexus Davis. We were sitting in cosmetology class talking while doing the mannequins hair. We were having this conversation about if you we really need to attend school in order for us not to be poor in the future. We had some disagreements but she proved me wrong once she told me her dad’s story of life. Alexus dad dropped out of high school and he didn’t attend college either. He thought he wasn’t going to be able to provide his family in the future the right way, but now Alexus father has his own construction business. She said that her father build their house that there are living in now and he did all this without an education. I told her success comes from great talents, but not everyone has that amazing talent to not succeed in life. When I compared her father to my mother, it made sense to me. My mother always told me “no one can become nothing if they don’t have an education”, but what about the celebrities they show on T.V or Alexus father. These people became something by showing their talents and their talents turns into business.…
