Last week I spent time packing up boxes and moving things around the house. In the process, I started pulling things out of places where I had stashed them for safe keeping, forgetting that I even had these treasured items. While I was in this Spring cleaning frenzy, I opened a closet, no different from an attic or shed, and found an old forgotten box. When I finally managed to open it, a little disaster punched me right in my face, figuratively of course, but it got me thinking.…
Throughout the year I have learned many things that will benefit me later on in life. Out of all the important things I have learned this year, there were three that have impacted my school year the most: Reading the book Freak the Mighty, learning the importance friendship, and what I am going to do with my life after high school.…
My first step for organizing my blood drive was contacting Shannon Metcalf, who is a Red Cross representative to establish a date, help determine how many donors to expect, and give tips for advertising. Once the date was cleared by my principle, we met. Shannon gave me the materials needed like posters, wristbands, parental signing forms, and information to set up my own online blood drive coordinator account, where all scheduled appointments must put in by me. Once the materials were received, posters were put up, announcements and social media advertisements were created. and then emails were sent out to the faculty members to inform them about the upcoming event. Everyday for month, my study hall was spent going classroom to classroom asking…
“I put it back here. See?” I said, pulling out my creation from behind the box of “K’nex”…
My destination is clear as I run down the hallways and hear the skin crawling screams of those who are being taken over by the undead dark side. I am almost the only one left who hasn't been infected with the skin decaying disease that turns these normally segragated halls into a battle between a united pack of compulsive brain munching zombies and a single misfit, geeky teen. Where am I going do you ask? The only place a proper zombie killing machine would be running to. The science room. Chemicals, fire, gas, and tools sound like the perfect combination for making a safe haven. Plenty of supplies to make traps through the infested hallways. The only obstacle are the zombies in the room. That's when my plan of attack comes in. I only have…
Okay, so, this story may be a little embarrassing, or a little pointless to write about. I mean, who wants to hear a story about how a twelve year-old flipped over a golf cart? Also, that stupid girl also got tendonitis for about the whole summer. Yep, that girl was me.…
It’s been a couple of days since Freak was attended to the hospital. I kept trying to get in and see him, but the doctors say that he needs to be alone to get his rest. I overheard the doctors talking about his health, and they say he doesn't have long to live. They say he has maybe a week at most, and I couldn't have felt worst about it.…
Writing has never been my strong point. When looking back at my old papers, most of my errors were, punctuation and weak responses. My writing monster of comma splice, is a lot like my personal monster of time management. Trying to remember to separate independent clauses and my time has been very difficult for me this semester.…
At the age of 18 months I survived a bleed to the brain as well as a breakdown in my immune system ; I’m currently medicated for ITP which is a blood disorder , causing me to be more susceptible to infection , as my body does not have the capacity to fight infection. This is due to a low platelet count. At three years old I had to have a major operation (a splectomy) which increased my platelet count and allows my immune system to fight infection. At the time of my operation I was not aware of the seriousness of my situation but I can remember feeling a bit scared and unsettled being in a ward full of strange people.…
All my life I have imagined different crazy scenarios that would never occur, but sounded amazing in my head. From being a sword fighter in the older days, to traveling through space with a Wookie and a man. These various stories have always been something I’ve had an interest in creating in my head. Zombies, of course, has been one of them. The first and most important thing would be going for a weapon. Obviously, you don’t want something too loud, as it would alert the other zombies around, but you also don’t want something that would be time consuming to take out if there were multiple around. That’s where Michonne had the best choice in the Walking Dead, a samurai sword. Next, would be a metal canteen, as to be able to boil the water if needed. Next would be some sort of fire starter using flint to allow for very long use of it. The next item would be some sort of pack or bag so that incase of danger at any point I could grab that with all my items in it and get away as fast as possible.…
Why do people enjoy monster stories? Afterall they are really just shows and movies about horrible events and sick people’s disturbing lives spunoff to catch your attention and seem less threatening. Why are we attracted to this type of entertainment? Could it be the fact that we know it’s all somewhat true and real which makes it interesting or that people forget that these types of entertainment were based off of real crimes and monsters which makes them seem more innocent and fictional? Although not all monster stories revolve around the same monster or even a specific monster they all contain the same aspects that capture our attention and intrigue us by showing us parts of the reality in a not so scary and realistic way. This method of showing us the truth captures audiences’ of all ages. All good monsters stories contain the elements of fear, power, obsession, violence, mystery, contrast, and disbelief.…
Growing up, I noticed a lot of discussion about financial problems between my parents. It’s not that we were becoming poor, it was because of our growing family needing more supplies. My mother just gave birth to my little brother when I started noticing the financial issues my family were facing. As a little girl, I do not know how our finances worked all I knew was many bills were due and I knew it because when I was a little girl I liked to practice reading and those bill statements were the papers that attracted my interest due to its colorful paper.…
We were playing just dance 4 on her Xbox. It was a lot of fun. I actually wasn’t too bad at it.…
The school bell rang, I knew it was time. I followed the signs that read, “Red Cross Blood Drive” with a bold arrow pointing to our school gym. As I stepped through the door the cool breeze hit me, and chills spread through my body; I was shivering and I wondered if it was because I was cold or just nervous. It was my first time donating blood and I was terrified, but not of the pain or needle, I was terrified of passing out from losing too much blood and completely embarrassing myself. Medical beds were arranged in a circle with bodies on top of them and one lifeless arm dangling down from each, dripping blood into a blood bag.…
When people think of monsters, they normally think of vampires or werewolves, goblins or ghouls, but what people fail to remember is that monsters aren't just the things that hide in our closets, sometimes, they are the things that hide in the darkest parts of our mind. They can come in many forms, some physical and some mental. My own personal monster is my depression. Depression isn't something that can be cured by the contents of a first aid kit, so learning to deal with my monster was difficult, but there was only one way I was ever going to get better, and that was by pushing myself. I managed to beat my depression with a large support system and the active will to recover.…
