Personal Narrative: Moving To Colorado
The holidays are fast approaching and I can't believe it. The leaves have changed colors and are falling rapidly off the trees. It seems like I looked and blinked and an entire year just just flew by, and my now little girl is not so little anymore. I've been going through photos of past Christmases and I can see the growth that has taken place throughout the year. As most of you know, I grew up in the Caribbean and I never experienced snow until we moved to the United States. Christmas for us meant cotton dresses and tees and we were even able to wear shorts as well, because it was summer all year round. Now fast forward to today, and I have children of my own and they need different wardrobes for each season including the holidays. The …show more content…
I know most of you think that Colorado must be horribly cold because it's known as "ski country" but you couldn't be further from the truth. I live in Colorado Springs where if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes and it'll change. So it can be difficult at times to "dress for the weather". I then added the pleated skirt which also has the sparkle waistband, and while it's totally girly, it can be dressed up or down with a pair of tights. To layer, I added the Sparkle Fair Isle Poncho. Now I just love ponchos, but I especially love the Fair Isle designs because of the holiday flair it

When I moved to New York to live with my dad, my life and ethics took a major turn. Many things changed, from school, to sports, to even the way I dressed. The people are different, the culture is different, and the way people talked was even different. The reason these changes had to be made was because of the black population in Virginia, they were all very gangster, and the New York population were mainly white, not that I have a problem with blacks, but they were very rude and inconsiderate. I am not racist at all, just people there are ignorant. In Virginia where I used to live, it was considered the ghetto part of my town, so I had to look, and act the part. But in New York where I live now, it’s the total opposite, a much more civil and calm town. I had to make so many changes to my life to adjust to the way people live In New York compared to Virginia. Not only the people and the culture, but my family in New York has a completely different way of living, by that I mean how they look at things, what’s right and what’s wrong in their eyes (I moved from Virginia to New York in 2007, when I was around 12 years old, in 7th grade). After the move life went forward, I got better grades…

The first place I would pick to move to is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Everyone forgets about this part of Michigan, half of the time it isn’t on the weather maps on the news. I think it would still be hard because I would have to pick up my life and transfer it to another world. At this point I understand that I would have to give up the luxuries I love so much. I would keep my phone but I cannot take my entire bedroom, my car, or my school with me. I know a lot of my family would stay put. They would suffer through it because they wouldn’t believe it until it was actually happening. My mother’s side of the family is very old fashioned and will not leave their ground because they have already been here so long and have worked so hard.…

One day I came home from school and saw a moving truck in front of my home. The first thing I did was find my parents to ask them if we were moving. They both said yes, all of us are moving to Fresno California. I was afraid because I had lived in Modesto my entire life and was very comfortable here. I knew my way around Modesto and especially my school where I had many friends and knew the teachers well. Modesto, after all, is my hometown and now I'm transferring to a foreign place. When all of us arrived in Fresno we stayed there a couple of weeks and realized the house had a huge amount of issues such as with leaking water pipes, a broken heater and a variety of other problems. My dad said “Maybe we are not meant to live here”. Finally…

We finally moved to North Carolina and I was devastated. I felt like I had to leave behind all of the friends I had just started formulating deeper bonds with. I felt like I had to start over from scratch with making friends and I missed Khalif; and finding out that he contacted me the night before we moved and I missed his call, didn't make things any easier. I never told him I was moving when I found out. I figured since we wasn’t together anymore, why bother. He found out my last day of school because my best friend and I were crying, and another student went back and told him. He approached me before the day was over, and wanted to know why I didn’t tell him I was moving. After we talked, he gave me a hug. I didn’t expect him to try to contact me that night. I didn’t find out he had called until my family and I were well in NC and I checked the caller ID box.…
