Personal Narrative: My Award In High School
I never imagine that I will take any academic award in high school or any time for all that matter. When I stepped excitedly and nervously into the stage to get my third academic letter award in high school, it was the most amazing moments in my life; and without a doubt, it was a fantastic fantasy in between my hands. Arriving at my new school excitingly, Marshall High School, I met my new counselor, who was the first person I met in school. She told me about the school system, the teachers, clubs/organization and my own classes; all that was eagerness and thrilling. We walked around the school; I started imagine who I will be and who I will be friends: one of the popular students, the normal students, or the losers. Back to the counselor’s office, surprisingly and sadly, my counselor told me that I will have to stay in high school for six years because my English skills were weak and low for my grade, and that I needed to take an English improvement classes (ESOL). I was so sad and disappointed in myself that I won’t have the opportunity to graduate on time. Everything around stopped …show more content…
Learning English was neither easy nor hard because I was in the environment in people who speak English; everything around me speaks English. As consequences for all the hard work, I did not have any time to do enough extra-curriculums or even join sport team in high school; for instant: NMHS (National Math Honor Society), NSHS (National Math Honor Society), biomedical club, and finally the soccer team or the tennis team. I made these decisions, so I can finish high school in four years with the best grades and needed knowledge possible. In the end of my sophomore year, I finish the ESOL program in the first two years: I went from ESOL 2 in 9th grade to ESOL 4 in 10th grade, finishing the ESOL program with an improvement of my English

I learned a lesson all the way back in first grade, and that lesson has stuck with me ever since. I was coming in from recess, and I was talking to a friend of mine off to my left. Unfortunately, I was not watching where I was going. I kept barely taking glances of what was in front of me, and that was a huge mistake. Someone was running behind me, and wasn’t watching where they were going either. As I approached the building I heard yelling, but thought nothing of it. After all, recess had just finished, so obviously kids would be yelling, right? It turns out some kids had been playing tag, and decided to play until they got inside. One that was still running away, because God forbid he’d be “it,” was Nick.…

If I could continue to participate in any activity through my university years, I would choose to publications. The school yearbook was the most fun I ever had during my high school years. I enjoyed every part of the process of making the yearbook, from taking pictures to editing them, to interviewing my classmates to writing about them. Everything that I had to do was so enjoyable. The best part was leaving my mark on something lasting. In this age of technology, there is not much that lasts beyond the digital world, and flipping through a solid book, that I put work into creating, was enlightening for me. My time on the yearbook staff seems fleeting, and I wish that it could last I bit…

Back in 2012 I was accepted into Early college academy at south-ridge (ECAS). This school is particularly special because it allows high school students to take dual credit courses in a community college. Obtaining high grades in my classes while also being required to do my best was something I always had trouble with. I was the the type of person who didn't mind a 70 when it came to report cards, until I found out colleges didn't like students with low grades or at least with low performance like me. My freshman year I made the decision to improve my grades and become a better student.…

If I were given the opportunity to change something, I would definitely choose to go back and do over the years I was in high school. During my time there, it was more important for me to do things that were more fun than sitting in class and learning. I thought that being in school was only useful for socializing and passing time. I only went because my parents forced me and so I never put any real effort into it, my adult life suffered very much because of it. Not having a high school education set me back in a lot of ways, and it closed many potentially successful job opportunities. After finally realizing what I lost, I decided to come back to school. I finally see doors opening for me now, that could have been open for me since the beginning…

My educational goals can be said to be broken down into three parts that are really the means to my ends which is the fourth and most important goal. My second goal is to get my Bachelors in Political Science in an ideal time frame of two more years. My third goal and one that is out of my hands, one may say, is getting a scholarship. I know there is a large amount of competitive students in the school, who are well deserving of scholarships but I need this scholarship to alleviate my parents from their stress and hard work to keep up with my payments. Every day I wake up determined to do more than I did the day before. My past achievements include gaining leadership skills, being on a varsity sport, and learning outside of school. I have been in tennis for eight years and varsity for three years, where I have received two awards for most improved player. I was accepted into the program “Trees for Tomorrow” where I learned how to manage and use natural resources in a classroom and in field studies. I participated in a new sport, a cross country ski team, where it taught me skills and strengthened my mind set about myself. My early years of high school, I was part of the backstage crew for a play, performed at my high school. The theatrical plays were terrible, under equipped, with barely…

My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…

I always strived to do the best that I can, in everything that I do, and this especially applies to academics. In 6th grade, I joined the honors program at my middle school; from then on forward, I made sure than my work was of high enough quality so that the following year I would be placed in honors courses. I entered high school with courses that upperclassmen had that challenged me more than anything else had before. It was during my freshman year of high school that I realized that I couldn’t…

The intact blue and green wool tartan-covered yearbook in my hands softly rekindles memories of my boarding school friends, faculty and fun. Yes, we girls studied and goofed off like most teenagers; perhaps more intensely because we were cooped up together for four - often fantastic - years. While the title and date of the yearbook are clear on the binding, the nameplate on the cover now only partially reveals my then-name. This little gold plate with fractured black letters makes me think of how my name changed (more than once) over the years and how my long-ago self remains deeply embedded in the person I have become - and will yet…

Fifth grade was the year when I experienced failure. I had spent one whole year in Mexico, my four grade year. After I completed fourth grade I came back to the United States of America specifically Dallas Texas. I knew that fifth grade year would be a complex year due to the fact I no longer had a clear comprehension of the English language furthermore know how to write it. Speaking English now seemed quite arduous to me. For example, I would attempt to talk to a person in English and sometimes that person would look at with uncertainty of what I was trying to communicate with them. I would also have troublesome searching for the precise word in my head to say. Once I entered school in Dallas Texas my first day was full of complete confusion…

When I was in Sixth grade someone very important to me was hit and killed by a car. He wasn't only someone I considered to be my friend, but also was a role model. When it happened, it shook the entire community; the high school he went to gave everyone a day off to mourn. This had me shaken up quite a bit for the first week. I was able to move forward because I looked to my friends and family for support. They helped me come to terms quickly allowing me to better use my time to help the others. I was able to overcome the sorrow by seeking the support of those around me. I returned to school after not attending for a short time and found myself behind. I talked to the teachers to get the past assignments so that I could catch up to the class…

My brother Jake. 16, now a sophomore. He helped me more than anything to overcome my fears of going to high school. When I was going to 8th grade I was worried about going to high school and looking for high school. Like what if they didn't accept me? I was looking for the perfect high school to go to. I was looking for days, and I was looking for all the traits that would fit me. My brother saw me one day and said” hey you doing all right?” I wasn't really in the mood to talk so I just ignored him. Then he came up to me and said” hey don't stress over this. I thought it was going to be hard but it really wasn't.” I was confused for a second. Then I tell him “ what do you mean? This is the most stressful thing in my life!” We talked for a…
