The vibration of the basketball hitting the ground is the best feeling the world. Light was shining through the humongous windows onto the worn out gym floor like a flash light. The other teams jerseys were as red as a rose...and as red as the blood pouring out of my mouth. Thats a good story. I am here to tell you about it. I was about ten years old, 4th grade. My basketball team was awful and horrible combined into one word. Awfible? Well anyway, this game was leaning toward us this time. We were winning by two points, and I knew i had to step it up.
I did. I got a few buckets, a ton of rebounds, and some steals. I was doing great. Until a kid on my team elbowed me in the face, which cause my braces to split my lip wide open. It took a while

AND ONE!!!! It was the last basketball game of my sophomore season. We played Stagg at Home, in the main gym. Everyone was there because it was the last game and it was at home. Coach Thompson substituted me for Darius with 5 minutes and 42 seconds left to play, we were already up 10 so he just emptied out his bench to give everyone some final playing time. When I got in I instantly caught fire. I don’t know what got into me I just couldn’t miss, even if I wanted to. I was making mid- range shots, 3’s and I was also getting to the basket. My first shot was a pull up jumper about 15 feet away from the basket, it was nothing but net. After I made that shot I felt as if I could do anything, so I kept scoring. When I made my first 3, the team basically…

I was an eight year old kid when I had my first ever glimpse of the NBA Basketball. It was a lanky afro manchild doing a reverse dunk versus Indiana right in front of the Laker crowd. Crowd was in awe, Commentators were ecstatic and Kevin Harlan in his usual voice saying, Kobe can’t be denied. That day, my love affair with the Los Angeles Lakers started.…

For as long as I remember, I have been raised with a basketball hoop. This hoop stood firmly, looking down at the trees secured by patches of cement in my backyard, in my neighborhood, Dorchester. This hoop was my center of faith and tranquility surrounded by gunfires, shattering windows, car alarms. As a girl, I learned not to adventure any place else other than this hoop because going beyond its faded lines on the concrete is an unknown world full of hazards and danger. And when I did cross these seraphic lines, I could sense the bittersweet emotions running throughout the neighborhood, my home.…

In 5th grade I was on the best team in the OFA. The coaches were nice and mean but I didn't care. The hard practices did make me better I slammed a 6th grader bigger than me. At football practice the coaches made us run pole to pole which means we all run like 400 yards. At every football practice I got hurt in some way. We won every game the last game aka the championship game it was 6 to 7.…

7th grade tryouts were the first time that I actually had to try out for a school sports team, It was the most nervous I had ever been in my life up to that point. The summer that led up to tryouts consisted of throwing off that Louisville Slugger net to work on my fielding. I had made the improvements that I felt were necessary and put in the hard work that now has defined me as a player and as a student.…

I made the team my junior year. Although I did not start the first games because the coach would put some of his favorite players in but one game he put me in second half and no one would get pass me. I was taking all the all the balls away from the opponents and also winning them in the air. After that game I became the starter for every game. It felt good because there were only seven juniors on the team and I was one out of three juniors that started every game. But I was really clad for myself because all the hard work I did over the summer paid off. We were in a tournament and were playing to go to the finals. We won 7 -1. I scored my first goal in that game. When I thought everything was going good one of the opponent player slide and hit me in the knee with his cleats and I just fell and I could not walk because it was the worst pain in the…

Since I was 7 years old, basketball has played an integral part of my life. I have devoted countless hours to not just a sport, but a passion, an outlet; to the game that I love. When I arrived at Bow Middle School as a fifth grader, my classmates and I would always look up to the 7th and 8th grade middle school basketball teams. Every year during winter carnival, the boys and girls teams would play a game in front of the entire school. Playing in that game became a dream and a goal of mine, but first I would need to make the team. For three years I developed my basketball skills, using my passion for the sport and desire to play in that game as motivation. When tryouts for basketball in 8th grade drew near, I knew I was ready. However a new coach would be at the helm this year. Our new basketball coach was also a coach for the youth football program. This resulted in numerous football…

The anticipation of knowing whether we were going to be champions or not was very high as we played our hearts out on the court. Everything we'd practiced for was being put to the test in this one moment. It all came down to this last lay-up. Did we get the point? When I was eleven years old I played recreational basketball with a nearby playground called Susan Park. Me and my little brother both were involved in almost every sport they offered. My favorites were volleyball and basketball. Going to practice was the highlight of my day. I really put my heart into these sports. Our basketball team this particular year was undefeated. As a post player and shooting guard there was a lot of pressure on me to get the ball to the goal at any cost and that's ultimately what I did in every game. It was our championship game and the heat was on like never before. Recruiters from the All-Stars team were there to watch us and pick their favorites so the pressure was definitely on for the players who were looking to take it to the next level. The game starts and we're all basically in the warm-up stage of the game we'd score, they'd score, nothing too intense. All of a sudden we start getting into the climax of the game, only about five minutes left. We were only two points away from beating them and it was up to one person on our team to step up and go for the game winning lay-up, that person was me. There were a few seconds left of the game and we still had to get up the court and to the goal. As the referee blew the whistle my heart sank but I knew what I had to do. The ball was passed to me and with no hesitation I ran down the court as if I was the only person out there and went up for the lay-up like a pro and I made it! This was definitely the best day of my life. The crowd rushed towards me and picked me up just like in the movies, I felt like a star! After the crowd and everything calmed down and came to an end a recruiter from the all-star…

I started to enjoy playing basketball when I was nine years old playing with my friends at school. Making my first basketball made me realize how basketball is awesome and the feeling of excitement running down my body. As years gone by I began playing basketball everyday and improving my dribbling and shooting skills. When I turned fourteen years old I decide to tryout for the varsity basketball team and I made it. My first day of practice I thought to myself I trained my body to handle any hard exercise but I was wrong. First our coach made us run for 2 miles and did suicide drills till the point where I was throwing up and thought I was dying due to dehydration.…

I was introduced to basketball when I was in 3rd grade. I wasn’t good at all but I wanted to play to try something new. I played for Holy Angels Catholic School and never got a chance to get in the game because I wasn’t experienced and good enough to compete. That made me very mad and I wanted to work harder during the summer to become better for 4th grade. Came 4th grade year I improved so much that I made the starting center spot and lead my team to 2nd place in the championship game. Every summer I was getting better and better no matter what, I had no days off. Came 7th and 8th grade I had several high schools calling me asking to play for their school, but I chose De La Salle. I wanted to be a student-athlete but it just wasn’t working out at the time, I’m still trying till this very day. You never stop learning so I take that phrase to heart and work to no end. I also thank God for blessing me with this talent because some people are not made for this sport so I’m graceful that I am. My stepdad trained me a lot during this time period. He saw something in me and at the end I did too so I thank him very much for that.…
