Tears stained my face as I contemplated the outcome. I could barely imagine what life would be like on the other side of this tragedy. My eyes squeezed shut, and I wished everything would go back to normal. My grandfather had recently been admitted to the Lancaster General Hospital suddenly, with the diagnoses of Congestive Heart Failure. He only had a few weeks to live, if he didn’t consent to have open heart surgery. A new heart valve was a lifeline for my Pop-pop (that’s what we call him). The blood flow weakened inside of my Pop-pop’s veins, and our only hope was an artificial heart valve, harvested from a cow.

My Pop-pop was under the deep spell of anesthesia for three days, once he woke up, he was confused and distant. He was delusional, and would say things he later could not remember. I reminisce occasionally, about how my own, loving and gracious Pop-pop couldn’t tell me apart from my cousins and sisters. My Pop-pop would ask my older sisters to bust him out of the hospital, and to take him home. This was a normal occurrence, due to the fact he couldn’t understand that he wasn’t strong enough to leave; if he was strong enough, he’d be out of there within the second. He now states that there was a curtain of blackness all around him, but every once in awhile, my dad face would come into view and he would say, “Dad, I love you” to which my Pop-pop would replied, “ I love you too, Peter”. After only about two and a half weeks, my Pop-pop was in a rehab that was only 20 minutes away. By this time in our journey, my family and I were exhausted, but grateful. My depressed mindset withered away, I was thankful that my Pop-pop was almost completely ready to go home. Two more weeks past, and Pop-pop was home at last! But, even with this great advancement, the journey wasn’t quite over yet. For months after Pop-pop was at home, his schedule was packed with doctor visits and nurses coming to his home to make sure he had a stable health
