I have been through twisted ankles, achilles issues, and stress fractures. None of these injuries are nearly as frustrating or discouraging as the issues I have been dealing with since the beginning of this year.
Beginning in January, I had trouble catching my breath while I was running. At first I thought I was simply out of shape, but then many weeks went by and I was still having trouble.
I went to visit the doctor and she had me try an inhaler for exercise induced asthma, but using it only seemed to make my symptoms worse. At the conclusion of every race, I could not catch my breath. I had no idea what was wrong with me and I had no idea how to fix it.

The pulmonologist gave me some breathing exercises to try and I had high hopes that they would work. During my first 5k of cross country season, my chest hurt and my breathing was so bad during the race causing me to drop out after two miles. This was devastating. I already felt like a failure because I couldn’t finish practices with the rest of my teammates, but not finishing the race was another ordeal. I felt like I would never be able to finish a race again.
A few weeks later, I actually finished a race and my season started to look a little brighter. Although my time was not a personal record, at least I was able to finish the race. The following week, I ran an even better race and after a few minutes of crossing the finish line, I actually felt great. This gave me a huge boost of confidence moving forward with the
