After finishing the first grade my mom moved me to a different school named Idea Frontier where it was my first official year going to an all English class. I remember the first day of class when the teacher was reading a book while the class was sitting around the …show more content…
teacher in a colorful alphabet carpet. I recall feeling confused and disoriented when the teacher was reading this reminded me how i felt when I first heard my neighbor read in the bus last year. Time passed I tried to stay away of learning english by only talking to people who speak spanish I got away with it until I noticed that most of my grades were low. This is when I realised that I had to make a change and start to put some effort in learning english.By the start of a few months I started finally composing a sentence thought spelling was not good.Thought middle school my writing improved because now I finally knew what the parts of speech were and the grammar rules that go along with writing. Both grammar and part of speech took a lot of repetitive practice during my journey of me learning english but with hard work and dedication I improved everyday.During those years I mainly learned the basics and structure for writing.
Once I got to high school I had already read many books do to the fact that every summer my school always made use read book and work in some type of assignment based on that book.I think this made me have a negative perspective in reading books.Because with every book there was always a assignment behind that book.
Back then I always wondered why I saw some students so hooked in book it seemed to me that the book was part of them it was like every time I saw them in school they always had a book in their hand.I thought that they were crazy .That all changed in the 9 grande when one of my friends told me to read this book called Divergent by Veronica Roth I gave it a chance and check-out the book from the library. The book got me hooked by the first chapter and by the week I finished the book. This was the first time I really enjoyed reading a book because it had action and suspense nothing compared to the old school books they assigned us to read. The entire book made me wanting to read more and more I was something that I have never felt before it was like i was under a spell or something know I finally realised in why some people always carry books with
them.
Learning to speak english was not easy for me, but in the end my persistence paid off. Not only did I learn english but gain reading books. But i also learned something about learning. Now when I am faced with a new situation I am not so nervous. I may feel uncomfortable to start with, but I know that as I exercise being in that position and as my skills get better, i will feel more and more comfortable.Albert Einstein once said “Life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your balance you must keep moving,” and that is what I intend to do with my life moving forward; never looking back and face all life's challenges head on while never giving up.
