Personal Narrative: My Experience Of Riding Bam
First Time I Rode Bam Bam
By: Katie

Ok, so I want to tell you about how riding Bam Bam for the first time went. First, my trainer told me I could ride Bam Bam. Then, I went to go get him. He is a brown and white horse, [a.k.a paint] with blue eyes. I got his blue halter and brown, blue, and tan leadrope. I put it on him and led out him out. We walked to the crossties.

I attached his halter to the tie downs. I started brushing him on his belly first. Then, I moved on to the saddle. I rode in an english saddle that day. So, I went to go get my stuff. When I came back with my saddle, pads and the girth I set the saddle down on the couch, and put the pads on. Then, I grabbed the saddle to put it on him. I attached the girth to both sides of the saddle. After that, I grabbed the bridle and hung it up. When it was time to ride, I put the bridle on and took him to the arena.

Then, I put the mounting block next to him. I got on and he started walking. After a few laps around the arena, I started doing stretches like standing up in my stirrups, two point, half seat, and sitting trot. When I did the sitting trot for a while, I started posting. Posting is where you stand up and sit down and keep repeating in a method. Then, I went into the two point at the trot. Still trotting, I went over some poles. Then, after doing that for a while, I got to canter. Cantering is where the horse goes faster and you sit the whole time. It was my first time cantering him so, I didn’t know how fast he went or how he moved. So, when he started cantering, it was fast but smooth. Then, towards the end he slowed down. When I slowed him down to a walk, my trainer said the lesson was over and that we have to walk them

Young horses tend to chew on their bit and, until they become accustomed to this new device, many rub their heads in an attempt to remove it. Therefore, the first bit any young horse carries should be as comfortable as possible. For this reason, at HorseLoverz.com, we recommend that our clients use full cheek snaffle bits during the initial training process. In addition, an ill-fitting bit can cause your horse to experience a variety of uncomfortable circumstances: Therefore, choosing a full cheek snaffle bit that fits your horse properly is essential to ensuring he/she remains comfortable and can then concentrate on following your direction.…

All of these facts plus more led to one conclusion: equine-human relationships can be therapeutic. The participants in this study recovered significantly with help from their equine counter-parts. The horses gave the equestrians a purpose; a reason to get up each day. However, while this research was a success, Yorke, Adams, and Coady remark, “riding is not for everyone.” Still, equine therapy is a promising option for a wide range of…

There are several different styles of showing. The three main ones are Western, saddleseat, and Huntseat. To train your western Arabian horse for showing, you have to make sure you start out training your horse to have a soft mouth and hold their head by themselves. “Never wrap the rope around your hand.” “If the horse bolts, you will not be able to release yourself, and you may get seriously hurt.”(Vogel) When showing western you have a very loose rein, and not much contact with the mouth at all. You would want to make sure that your horse can hold their head by themselves.…

My choice has got me bruised, fractured and, or almost clean breaks. My choice is bull riding. When I was 10 I started to ride. My first ride I hung on and got 2nd place. I thought it was so fun and easy that I would try it with no gear because I got beginner's luck. So the next rodeo was my keiki rodeo and I thought I could ride it.... 3 seconds went by and I got stepped on my hand and back. I had been checked out by the ambulance and ice packed. I thought just because it happened one time it wouldn't happen again. So I tried riding with only chaps so my legs would get as sore. So my next keiki rodeo I hung on for 6 second, which means I made my time, but just as I heard the buzzer ring with a loud "brapppphhh" I flopped over onto my back…

The day I took off on my 4 wheeler, and left my Mom and Dad in the dust. It started out awesome and fun, then turned out to be very scary. It was July 4, 2013, my family and I loaded up our 4 wheelers for a fun day in the great outdoors. We all unloaded our 4 wheelers, then took off out into the desert. I wanted to see how fast I could go around the sharp corners on dirt roads. It was so much. I was having so much fun seeing how fast I could drive my 4 wheeler, around the sharp dirt road corners, I never looked back.…

This spring I spent two-weeks in New York visiting my daughter and her family. I spend a lot of time in the city, and I love it, not only because my daughter has chosen to create and raise a family in Brooklyn, but also because of its walkability. I’m not much of a shopper, but I do like to watch other shoppers, particularly those who dress as if they’d like to be watched.…

I broke my arm today while getting on the freight train. Thank God I still have an arm unlike some of the other I have meet who have lost an arm or leg and some even know someone who has lost their life ( Riding the Rails). I have done this a couple of time now and I shouldn't have been so anxiety about it but I was. I hide under the track outside the yard like I normally do, waiting for the train to reach momentum so I could get on. I forgot to check for the bull guards who are hired to keep hoboes from jumping on freight. I guess I got too comfy with my environment( Riding the rails). Right when I was getting on the trains, I heard the bull guards yelling and chasing after me. It threw me off my balance and I nearly fell off the train. I…

In my hand I held my rope which I kept tucked under my raincoat, along with a garbage bag which I would later use to keep the handle and tail of my rope dry. In my other hand was my helmet. My riding glove and a piece of rosin were tucked deep inside my shirt pocket to keep any moisture from reaching it at all. Along with my glove and rosin was a thong, which is a long, thin piece of leather that I wrap around my wrist and the base of my glove to keep it snug on my hand throughout the ride. With one final glance, I made sure I had all of the necessary equipment for my upcoming ride.…

Close your eyes, and remember a time when you were happy doing something even though you knew it was dangerous. This is what I feel like when I ride a horse. A few months of living in front of the TV in a lazy boy chair my doctor informed me that I could slowly start getting back into the swing of things. I wanted to get back on a horse sinse the day I came home from the hospital, and that day had finally come. I kept feeling the same way that I did when I was leaving for my first rodeo by myself, so nervous. Learning or doing something new always makes me a bit nervous, and getting back on a horse was no…

Typically, when one is getting ready to use a horse they go through a ‘grooming’ process. Grooming involves palpating the horse for any sore spots, sensitive areas or obvious injuries. Next, the horse is brushed down and cleaned to prepare the horse for riding. In the event that any injury is detected, the injury will be treated and the horse won’t be ridden. Most riders go through the grooming process and leave it at that. Some riders don’t groom at all. The importance of this simple stage alone cannot be overemphasized, as the horse is incapable of communicating any injuries other than to limp.…

    Horse Saddle Analysis

    • 652 Words
    • 3 Pages

The saddle has many components, but some of them serve different purposes for different types riding. The most basic parts of the saddle is the skirt, flank billet, flank cinch, front cinch connecting strap, and the stirrups. The skirt needs to be applied first to make a barrier between the leather saddle and the horse. The flank billet is used to loosen or tighten the flank cinch if the horse is too big or too small for the saddle. The flank cinch is used to tighten or loosen the strap that fits around the girth of the horse. The front cinch is adjustable and fits around the rub cage of the horse. The connecting cinch attaches the front cinch and the flank cinch together underneath the horse. The stirrups should be approximately the length of the riders arm to ensure that the ball of the rider’s foot rests in the bottom of the stirrup and the knee has about a 45 degree angle.…
