First, the proper training of the group therapist must include some personal group experience. Secondly, the form of contemporary group therapy has been vastly influenced by the encounter group. Lastly, the encounter group or at least the tradition from which it emerged has been responsible for developing the best, and the most sophisticated, small group research technology.…
Deborah “Deb” Barnes is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor employed at Valley Hope (VH), a private residential treatment facility located in Cushing, Oklahoma that specializes in the treatment of substance use and codependency disorders. When I walked through the door at the end of the Lecture Hall I paused, unsure of whether I was in an office or a playroom. Deb explained that her office is used as the unofficial storage room for behavioral therapy props because she enjoys having the stuffed animals and other toys around her. She invited me to take a seat next to a Teddy bear, and for the next hour I interviewed her about aspects of group therapy that is conducted in the facility. Deb taught me much about how her group members are assembled,…
Monday- I am ready to stat week 4!! I like being in the office but I prefer being in the back. It entirely too much drama going on in here today. The woman training me is really on her last strike and she just seems to be getting on everyone nerves (including mines). I look forward to a better tomorrow.…
Walking into the locker room about to get ready to go to our last football game of the season. I could smell the sweaty equipment from the kids who never take their pads home. The Hempfield Spartans 7th grade team would be ending their season 0-7 if we didn’t win today. As I was changing into my pads my friend mike walked in the room. I said “you ready for tonight”. “Heck yeah” replied Mike.…
I had many experience while performing my duty. One of them was very significant to me that a psychiatric patient assaulted me and punched my head and face. I lost one tooth and had concussion. I did not hit back the patient who assaulted me, and prevented further injury would happen to me and the patient. This was a good experience I had while serving the psychiatric patients that I kept calm and blocked the assault with preventive…

To accomplish my goal I did some refreshment my nursing skill and producers before clinical. I reviewed my nursing skill and procedure to refresh my brain about how to administer parental injection, the right site for IM and S/C, and size and length of needles. I reviewed my health and physical assessment videos and review my nursing skill notes how to assess head to toe and pain scale, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and CIWA Scale which helped me a lot to refresh my skills. Also, I looked up my previous clinical worksheets which reminded me some nursing diagnosis and…
Initially when I meet my client for the first initial session, I would like to keep in mind the purpose for the counseling session, and establish some attainable goals for both myself and the client. Although, as a counselor meeting a client for the first time may be awkward in the beginning (Laureate Education, 2010d).…
My group forming experience begins every new school year when the math and business teachers come together to form the math/business department. The school has several departments but this particular department is headed by me. This year is comprised of twelve members. This is quite lagre according to S. Robbins et al, (2013) who states that the most effective teams have 5 – 9 members. Most experts suggest using the smallest number of people who can do the task. So there in lies the challenge. The forming stage puts together all the teachers who teach math and or business. The leader is selected by the principal. The storming stage commences with a number of department meetings to plan and structure the entire school year with plans to have…

My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. In high school, my mother wanted to play football and couldn't because she was a girl and back-in-the-day women were not allowed to play football with the guys. However, she remained strong by raising 6 kids and independently took care of all of us on her own. My mother has several qualities that I would love to develop. The first quality she has is balance; she certainly knows how to make…
It was the beginning of my freshman year of highschool when my mom began to see bugs in my food, my mattress, and any place imaginable, or rather the beginning of my mom’s hallucinations. That year I found out my mom was addicted to crystal meth. I could not believe it. We went from watching A&E’s Intervention together, a show about drug addicts, to my mom becoming a drug addict. That is when my world came crashing down. It was the start of one of the most important times of my life and knowing that my mom would not be there to mentally, emotionally, and often physically, support me was tough. It was extremely hard not being able to eat because my mom swore there were bugs in my food to my mattress being thrown out because “it was infested with bedbugs.” It was tough having to call other people to give me a ride to school because my mom was not capable of doing so. Not being able to go to sleep because I was worried my mom would leave in the middle of the night because she was jacked up on meth. But this was just a regular day…
I like the concept behind the collaborative and narrative therapies of focusing more on the client’s strengths and abilities. I lean towards the collaborative therapy practices because it seems freer flowing whereas the narrative therapies are more structured. I often find my work with students more in the area of collaborative therapy, working more with facilitating a particular process. Most of the time this is done without a set strategy or outline of how my conversations will develop with them. I also appreciate Harry Goolishian’s quote of, “it is easier to identify what not to do as a therapist than what to do.” It has often been successful for me to ask students how I can help them for example, rather than press the issue of unpleasantness.…
Ever since I was born, I was a military brat. Not knowing where to call home, or if any place could be home, I moved. I moved six times, four of those places were towns that nobody could think about. Germany, North Carolina, Alaska, North Carolina, Germany, and Alaska, yet no place to call home. May 22, 1999, my first day on this world; Kronach hospital had its first American baby in their hands, yet they acted like I was a different species. The only event I remember was when I was about one. While I was one, I grabbed everything in my reach, even a grill handle. As a baby, I did not know that the handle was moving, the grill top had smashed my thumb. Ever since that event, I now have a starfish mark on the side of my right thumb from where the stiches were.…
