Walking into the locker room about to get ready to go to our last football game of the season. I could smell the sweaty equipment from the kids who never take their pads home. The Hempfield Spartans 7th grade team would be ending their season 0-7 if we didn’t win today. As I was changing into my pads my friend mike walked in the room. I said “you ready for tonight”. “Heck yeah” replied Mike.…
I had many experience while performing my duty. One of them was very significant to me that a psychiatric patient assaulted me and punched my head and face. I lost one tooth and had concussion. I did not hit back the patient who assaulted me, and prevented further injury would happen to me and the patient. This was a good experience I had while serving the psychiatric patients that I kept calm and blocked the assault with preventive…
I had some experiences, such as assisting in the transporting of individuals going on scheduled activities, helping them bath, dress, oral hygiene, toilet, feed and groom, ensuring the environment is free of safety hazards by correcting any hazards found and reporting them to the supervisor, observing persons served for signs and symptoms of disease, injury, reactions to medications, interacting them, and entertaining them by dancing and singing with them. I would like to serve this population as a medical doctor,…
To accomplish my goal I did some refreshment my nursing skill and producers before clinical. I reviewed my nursing skill and procedure to refresh my brain about how to administer parental injection, the right site for IM and S/C, and size and length of needles. I reviewed my health and physical assessment videos and review my nursing skill notes how to assess head to toe and pain scale, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and CIWA Scale which helped me a lot to refresh my skills. Also, I looked up my previous clinical worksheets which reminded me some nursing diagnosis and…
Initially when I meet my client for the first initial session, I would like to keep in mind the purpose for the counseling session, and establish some attainable goals for both myself and the client. Although, as a counselor meeting a client for the first time may be awkward in the beginning (Laureate Education, 2010d).…
Everyday in life people make decisions, whether we realize it or not. Everyday individuals are faced with adversity. For example, feeding their families, bringing home money to pay expenses, etc. “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6) Individuals must take steps to reach their potential and family success. To be a physical therapist, people must complete several courses in college and earn degrees. According to the American Physical Therapy Association, “The length of professional DPT programs is typically 3 years. Primary content areas in the curriculum may include, but are not limited to, biology/anatomy, cellular histology, physiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology,…

While visiting the College Foundation of North Carolina website I was not surprised in my answers. My Holland code was CES, meaning conventional, enterprising, an social. Also, I was able to find out my work values and they are achievement, recognition, and relationships. However, I do feel like there were more on the list that I felt were also part of my work values. I definitely feel like these relate to my degree and also my professional career. It would be very beneficial because while getting my associate and bachelor degree and then leading to my career as an Occupational Therapist it will become very helpful by being organized, working with people and helping others. While being an Occupational Therapist my work values will mean everything…
While my focus is on the administrative side of things now, such as coding and filing claims, billing insurance carriers and patients, etc., I am quite willing to room patients, take vitals and case histories, call in prescriptions, verify insurance coverage, schedule appointments, fill out referrals, fax documents, and whatever else I am asked to do. A medical facility is a team, and teamwork makes the team work.…
At first I was very nervous to apply as a volunteer and had doubts about being hired. After a long process of applications, interviews, and trainings, I was assigned to work at 6-CD on Geriatric floor. While I was volunteering there I met with different people, nurses, doctors, and pharmacy technicians. Seeing the pace of work they work in made me realize how important it is to work in healthcare. For me, the most significant issue was to get the used to patients who have passed away. I have seen a situation where a nurse and a doctor telling a family member that their father has passed away. At first I hesitated and asked myself if I am brave enough to do the same in future. As I volunteered there I realized I got used to everything, I was able to handle…
Growing up in a small, rural town you come to know people on a very personal level. You share in their joy, their sorrow, and their struggles. Watching people who played significant roles in my life suffer because they did not get the help the needed impacted my life greatly. Observing the roles of several different healthcare professionals, I quickly came to the realization that patients in rural areas do not always receive the support they need. It wasn’t until I observed an Occupational Therapist working with my grandmother after she had a stroke that my perspective changed. I reflected while watching the Occupational Therapist work with my grandmother about the importance of what I was observing, not only for my grandmother, but for the…
Throughout my time in the ward I have been exposed to a wide range of activities in which I have assisted other health care assistants in doing.…
One of the worst injuries that has ever occurred to me was having my fingers burned by extremely hot water. It was a cold, dark day at 7:31pm, and it was just me, my older brother, Gideon, and my younger brother, Theodore. I was 9 years old, Theodore was 2 years old, and Gideon was 12 years old. Every day I would drink some hot tea, because I tended to be extremely sensitive to the cold. And when I say sensitive, I am talking about that if I was drinking regular temperature water, I would be shivering probably throughout the rest of the night. Gideon was doing homework at the basement, while Theodore was sleeping in my parents’ bedroom. I was making myself some hot tea, when I accidentally poured hot water on my hand for 2 seconds. Now 2 seconds seem like nothing, but when something like…
When my mother called me, I was already running across the road to the reddish, brick-walled building that jutted out from the street corner.…
