Personal Narrative: My Family Dog
My family dog is a hairless Chinese Crested named Sid. He is a gray, white, and black dog with no hair except on his head, paws, and the tip of his tail. We rescued Sid 8 years ago from Detroit, Michigan. His owners left him outside in the freezing cold when they moved away. They abandoned him. Adopting Sid changed my life forever. By caring for him, I have learned loyalty, responsibility, love, compassion, and patience. These are traits I see and feel within him as well. I believe animals mirror God’s hope and love for us. For example, God wants us to forgive others who have done us harm. Sid has forgiven his original owners by moving beyond the shy and fearful dog he was when we first brought him home. He is a happy and joyful dog now.

It started off like everyday for every beagle working in the airport. A beagle’s life working in the airport is mainly using our acute sense of smell to sniff out any meats or plants that could possibly carry diseases or pests. I work in the Beagle Brigade at the Tay Airport. The Beagle Brigade is a team of beagles, and human handlers that search for prohibited agricultural products, and unauthorized meats. From what I’ve heard my owner says that without us our foods wouldn’t be safe, and there can be diseases that can be introduced in the U.S.To make it simple, without us humans wouldn’t be safe at all.…

Have you ever been ran over by your dog? Well if not then you can just listen to my story. I was about five years of age when this tragedy happened. My mom, dad, sister, and some other family members were at my house. I was just playing around with my dog like a normal kid. My cousins, Buster my dog, and I were just playing tag. I don’t remember who was it, but I’m guessing Buster thought it was him.…

Max was my best friend. He was a very lively golden retriever with a golden brown body and a white chest. My father got the dog before I was born, and just when he meets my mom. I remember feeding him table scraps and my mom getting mad because he shouldn’t have table scraps. When I was 3 years old he would snuggle with me before I went to bed, but after I got a bunk bed then he would just sleep on the floor of my room. My sister didn’t really get to see him much because he was still a baby when he had to be put down.…

Since I grew up in a family with an abusive father, my response to conflict differs from most people. My father resolved conflict by shouting, degrading, and often physically abusing the other person. My mother’s response to conflict was to try to settle a compromise or walk away until her own frustration was no longer there. I think based off the conflict responses I observed growing up, my responses are a mixture of my parents. When in an intense argument with someone, I attack their character and then silence them out. Family members play a big part in how we resolve conflicts, because a good portion of our lives begin by us spending time with and watching our relatives. We, as a society, adapt skills and mannerisms from those closest to…

The love of an animal is just as strong as the love of a person. Animals show love when they are shown love. Animals seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to people feeling down. They always show love, by licking or following me, and try to make me feel better when i'm sad or when i've had a rough day. I had a puppy that peed everytime he got excited because that’s just how much he loved people. Any time new people came to the house we had to put him outside because he would pee on them from excitement. I loved him even though i had to clean up after him all of the time. My love for animals will always be strong because animals are the most caring creatures on the earth to me. I believe in animal love because it is…

I come from a world where the only thing that is constant, is change. Changing states, changing houses, and changing schools. Unlike most other kids, I don't have a childhood home where I made countless memories, in fact, my earliest memories as a child all consist of cardboard moving boxes, along with unimaginably long car rides to foreign places. I don’t have a door marked to show how I've grown over the years, and I don't have a bedroom wall thick with paint covering over colors I chose as a child. Truthfully, often times when I was younger, and would see someone with these things, I was tempted to be envious and couldn't help but to think how lucky they were to have such stability. As a result of this, I spent a large portion of my childhood…

When I got to St. Vincent’s hospital I thought I was in labor but the doctor said my water wasn’t broken yet. So I had to walk up and down the hallway for the baby to come down. Then finally the doctor pulled my water. And oh my god I was in so much pain. The nurse said” Keep pushing, the baby is almost out.” With a final push I had my baby. She was the most beautiful little baby with dark hair and big light brown eyes. I called Diana.…

Goldendoodle puppies are what you would imagine to be a life size teddy bear in the palm of a hand. At first glance, some will ponder on the fact if they are tangible or dreamed upon. Bringing home my first goldendoodle puppy, Charlie Brown, was the ultimate feeling, he is a dark, creamy brown coat with a reddish tint. His fur feels immensely like the inside of a new pair of Ugg boots. My love for him is unconditional, except for waking up in the early hours of the morning with his horrendous puppy breathe. Not to mention I also failed to remember the irritating barking that occurred so often. If all of these compelling things intrigue you, I commend that you find yourself a Charlie Brown like I have.…

This child entered the world barking orders. I've always called her a little chihuahua. She fears nothing. I was concerned about that, at first and later realized you're not truly living if it is in fear. I wanted to teach her so much, but over the years she has taught me more than I expected. My child is smart and I always thought I was brilliant, but had no idea until I sat and listened to my high school child explain and debate her stances on political views with me. We both are conservatives and I don't mind her having an alternate view and I enjoy listening to her speak about it. I was just happy to see she had valid points about her claims. She is a debater and I was one of the best at that age. Devon has given me a run for my money and…

I have fostered many dogs, most have come from malicious breeders who were emptying cages to start new. The horrifying conditions these dogs were subject too are unacceptable. Breeders are people who keep animals in cages for most of their life to repopulate and breed certain species of dogs that are considered “superior” or “unattainably cute”. But the conditions many dogs are forced to live in are not worth the few adorable puppies that are adopted. This is why people need to rescue dogs from shelters, compared to buying them from breeders and puppy mills.…
