Personal Narrative: My Father Simon Rodriguez
All people are different. I say that because if we were all the same the world would be boring, there would be no diversity. However, we were made different and so is my may dad Simon Rodriguez. Simon is a great father figure who is a fun and loving dad.
Simons best characteristic is that he is a loving human being who cares for his family. The fact that I’m the only boy in my family also means that I get spoiled more than my other siblings. Although it’s not all fun and games sometimes I get in trouble too. My dads cooking is awesome! I love when he cooks outside on the grill. I could eat the food he cooks outside everyday and not get tired of it cause it is so dang good. Like when I’m having a bad day and he is cooking outside that

The second character trait Simon possesses is that he is devotedly faithful. He is an enormous believer of God and loves sharing his faith with other people. This is proven during various conversations with Reverend Russell and his best friend, Joe Wenteworth. When Simon is talking to the reverend, he suggests that God made him the way he is for a reason and says, “I think I'm God's instrument - that he's gonna use me to carry out his plan.” The last occurrence when Simon is faithful happens when is continually encouraging Joe to be joyful. Simon claims, “Your problem is that you have no faith.” Joe responds, “I got faith. I just need proof to back it up.” Joe is more of a pessimist and practical person therefore Simon is there hence he can cause Joe be further positive.…

It was Nine O’clock, Pedro Juanito and his family had just arrived at their new house located in Woodgrove, California. As soon as they got in the driveway everyone began to feel relieved after eight hours of flying and driving from Mexico. Before Pop could turn the engine off everyone opened their doors and ran inside to see how astonishing their new house was. Everyone except Pedro was excited because Pedro had just got used to life in Mexico and he didn’t want to move. After everyone looked around and assigned rooms, everyone went to bed for school and work except Pedro, he just sat there wandering what his new school would be like and if people would like him. After around 30 minutes of thinking Pedro finally got tired and went to sleep…

I met my mentor as I opened my front door on a brisk fall Friday night, November 11, 2011 to be exact. He stood at about 5’3,” which made me laugh a bit because I was taller and I would be calling him my mentor. The style he had was that of a preppy college student. The voice he had was so loud that it echoed throughout my house as we first chatted. Out of all the attributes that make up Francisco, the one that will forever be stuck in my brain will be that of his enormous smile. Francisco always figures out a way to keep his big bright smile on his face, despite the situation he is facing. Francisco San Miguel’s dedication and hard work are two things that have led him towards his success…

It was a Wednesday morning that I'll never forget. I had woken up at 3 in the morning because I had to be at a park for a physical fitness test. The test was not until 6 but because I was taking the bus, I had to make sure I was out of bed and out of the house early in the morning. The first few minutes of my commute were peaceful; there was light rain, birds chirping, the insect's low buzzing in the distance. It was just a normal morning. After I had gotten on the 85 bus that goes down Central to Jefferson Park I was a little groggy so I rested up against the heating compartment. The little designated area where you push a button and the heat comes on during the winter months so that commuters are not stuck out in the cold for too…

The place I grew up in could be considered above average. I had my friends that I would see every day and my family back at home. However, everything that any of us did would be over the top in every way possible. This became especially evident when my family and I would begin to plan a party or travel, this improvement of activities would be known as the “Mexican Way”. To be more specific, my family and I turned a normal New Year’s Eve party into a colorful and explosive fiesta. At first it seemed normal, we bought all the fireworks, started getting all the food ready for the party, and all my cousins and uncles started to arrive at my house; but as soon as it got dark everything started to get out of hand. As the first bottle rockets went…

“When I was ten years old, my brother Miguel came back from the U.S. to visit us. When he was ready to leave, he told my mom, ‘Hey, are you going to let Kiko (which was my nickname) come to the U.S., so he can go to school and have an opportunity?’ and my mom turned to me and said, ‘Do you want to go with him?’ Then I looked at her and replied, ‘Do you want me to go?’ and she nodded in approval, so I went into the house, got a backpack, and put three pants, three shirts, and a few other things in there because I didn’t have many belongings. I then went back outside, jumped into the car, and left my mom. I didn’t see my mom again until I was a senior in high school, and a lot took place during those years” (Castellanos).…

Growing up in a community that is mostly Hispanic creates a type of shield, not allowing for different cultures or ethnicity to diversify the community. A Hispanic family living in such an isolated community takes a toll on the way we view the world. This environment has indulged my curiosity. Being the second youngest sibling of my family of seven has allowed me to learn from my older brothers, and have the privilege to be a leader to my little brother and serve as a role model to him. Though none of my family members went to college, and my parent’s highest education being a high school diploma, it hasn’t discouraged me to follow their footsteps, but rather give the encouragement to dedicate myself to be the first generation and in my whole…
