Personal Narrative: My Field Trip To Barter Theatre
Barter Theatre

It was around six thirty in the morning, everyone was still extremely tired but also pretty excited. It was saturday May 24th and we were all heading to the Barter Theatre in Abingdon Virginia. This was a field trip for the eighth grade drama classes at both Thomas Harrison and Skyline. We had all gotten to the school at around six, six thirty and filled on to the bus. I sat in seat that was pretty much in middle of the bus I had Nicole next me and Gabby behind me. Then Naomi and Corin were across from us Hasham and Jake were behind them with Josh behind them. The ride there wasn't to eventful, it consisted mainly of me and Gabby sharing headphones to listen to music and then at times all of us talking. We had arrived at Barter at around eleven thirty. Once we got there we all went to this little cafe called Bob’s at Barter where had all pre ordered lunches. We all went in and got our food then went outside and sat down in a circle under some trees. Of course there were a ton of people running around and goofing off during this time so things got a little crazy. For the most part we stayed somewhat calm, although we did make quite a mess eating iIm not even sure how but I’m pretty sure at one point we were throwing food at each other. I mean we were eighth

Once we were there we all sat down and waited for the show to begin. The show we had gone to see was “The Wizard of OZ”. The show was going great and we were all really enjoying it.Then we reached intermission, where some of us switched seats so that we could sit with different people for the second act. Once the show ended we were directed up to the balcony seating where we got to ask some of the actors questions about the show and about Barter. After this we split back up into our schools and then we were given tours of the Barter Theatre, we got to see their costume room, backstage, and many other neat

    3. Describe the concert venue and where you sat (i.e.: balcony): I took my twelve-year-old stepdaughter with me and we stood out side for about five minutes waiting in line to purchase tickets. Upon entering Pope Joy Hall, we were greeted by an information booth that was filled with flyers and pamphlets and programs to all different venues of art, from orchestras to plays. Lindsey asked me wide eyed; do all these things mean that this is what is showing or playing here? I looked at her and smiled and replied, yes this is Pope Joy Hall, UNM Center for the Arts and they have a variety of things going on all the time. We grabbed some information on what we would like to come and see and headed to the first theater on the left. We walked up to the entrance doors to the theater and were greeted by two very friendly greeters, who handed us our programs. Then, we entered the double doors and were greeted by an eager usher who politely guided us through hand and arm gestures to go down the left isle. Therefore, Lindsey and I sat together in the lower level on the left side middle end row seats. Once seated, I realized…

When I first walked into the theater, I was very surprised with the close proximity of the chairs to the stage and props. I was not expecting to be seated on the actual stage where I could practically touch the actors. Once the show began, it started with one of the actors coming out and welcoming everyone to the show. However, he did not just say “welcome everyone!” He actually named off every single type of human possibly there for over two minutes. While doing this, he would sit in the audience, point at people and interact with them. I really enjoyed the intimacy of the play with it’s close…

As this is one of my favorite classes, I can remember several lessons that were entertaining this past year. One of the first materials that come to mind is when we did the presentations about whatever we wanted. A recent topic, I enjoyed was reading The Crucible as a class. I also recall finding Edgar Allen Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" amusing but slightly disturbing. The element I enjoy most about PowerePoints is researching the information. Although presenting them is something I am not inclined to doing, being allowed to select the subject of the PowerPoint was especially pleasing to me. Reading The Crucible as a class was surprisingly highly entertaining to me. I considered the various people’s perspectives, reading the lines…

At exactly 6pm the bell was rung which signaled to everyone that dinner was now ready. We all piled in to eat an assortment of chicken, rice, vegetables, and salad. After dinner a bunch of the girls, including myself, sat on the dock letting our feet dangle down by the water and sharing stories trying to get to know one another better. I was surprised to find that a lot of us actually had a lot more in common, other than being in the honors program, then I would of imagined. Later on that night we all gathered around a camp fire enjoying our smore's and anticipating what the next day had in store for us.…

It was only the month of May so we still had some time left in school. Christina made a count down to Italy on a calendar in her room. Everyday I was anxious to leave and go there but I had to wait. As school was coming to close the 2006 world cup was starting and this was the year that I started to play soccer so I was very excited to watch the tournament. We were leaving from New York on June 29th, our flight left at 10:30 am. That morning my mom, sister, and I all said goodbye to my dad before we left. My grandparents, Nonna and Papa, live in Brooklyn so we set off to there My mom wanted to drop the car off at their house so we would not have to leave it at the airport. As waited for the car service to pick us up and take us to the airport, while we waited everyone else was watching the morning news and I was going through my carry on. I was making sure I had all my toys and snacks for the long flight ahead. When car service finally arrived after what seemed like hours we piled all of our luggage into the back of the car and made our way to the airport. When we arrived at the airport we took all of the bags out of the back of the car and went to go check in. Checking in took forever even though there were not that many people in line, I started to…

It was going to be a short ride only about 4 hours altogether through the South Dakota mountains. About an hour into our ride, we reached the mountains and as soon as we did Brody, Eli, Maddy, and I rode our horses to the top of the mountains. When we reached the top of the mountains we got off our horses and looked out over the South Dakota scenery, it was a beautiful view. I have never seen a better view in my life. You could see so far since we were up so high in the air and when we looked down at Tommy and Cassie they looked like ants. After we took a few pictures we headed back down to Tommy and Cassie. We went a little further after we got down from the mountain and then we turned back and headed towards camp. We arrived back at camp we washed, fed, and watered the horses. When we were done with that stuff we made a fire and started carving on sticks for a competition we were having and then at about 11 we went to…
