Personal Narrative: My First Experience In The United States
“One is never afraid of the unknown; one is afraid of the known coming to an end”. I am living my first experience in the United States; however, is not my first experience in a new country. I have already passed trough all the feelings of meeting new people, miss home, and adapt myself to my new culture; but, there is one thing that I have clear, being afraid of something that I do not now is like crying for something that still not happened; nobody is going to hit as hard as life, after all, is not about how hard I hit, is about how hard I can get hit and keep moving forward.
My story began 6 months ago, I was called to do a soccer tryout, with the chance to earn a spot and a scholarship to play Soccer in United States. I do not know how often those things happen, but for me it was like a dream coming true. After talking with a few coaches, Zach Mills, our coach, gave me the opportunity to come here. I was not sure of, where I was going, or what I was going to find, nevertheless I trust in his word, and he brought me to a great place. I do not regret any choice that I took in the pass, because every step that I took before make me who I am today.

I was in much better shape and ready for the soccer season. Unfortunately, an injury took me off the field in the fourth game and it was nothing that I could do about it. Again, the things do not always happen how, I would like. I have been working even harder now trying to rehabilitate my injury. I have worked hard to maintain good grades during all this time, and trying to be focus in the things that I can

In the second separation of this experiment, the Erlenmeyer flask with the first filtrate was put into a beaker so the filtrate was in the beaker. The beaker was then heated on a hotplate until near boiling. After the whey protein had precipitated, a vacuum filter was used to filter out the whey. These proteins were then air-dried. A qualitative test was done to indicate that the sample extracted was the protein whey. Again, a small test tube was used and 2 mL of protein test solution was put in the tube. Five drops of 10% NaOH and 2 drops of 0.5% CuSO4 were added to this tube. If a purple color showed, it would indicate there was protein in the test tube.…

This connection that I have with my mother is a dime a dozen if you look at our entirely culture here in America. Less and less families these days actually cook or sit down to eat a meal together which has left many Americans searching for something they have lost. This lost feeling is being capitalized on by television networks by the vast amount of cooking and food related shows that are being broadcasted. Frank Bruni asks in “An Experts Theory of Food Television Appeal”, “For these young people, does the televised cooking have have the appeal of a missive from a lost utopia” (Bruni 111)? I believe he hit the proverbial nail right on the head with this line of questioning and he couldn't be more correct. Young adults who lead busy lives,…

Let me start off with my mother's journey to America. It was 1985 when her parents decided it was time for a fresh start. It was very difficult to come to America legally, so they made their journey by traveling to other countries. They left Cuba and traveled to Spain where my grandfather found a job as a farmer. They lived in Spain for almost 2 years before they gathered enough resources to travel to Mexico. The journey from Mexico to the USA was very easy for them because they had a family member who knew their way around. They struggled for many years in America but soon became legal citizens. My mother later on went to college and completed her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Miami. My grandparents purchased the…

I had been playing a little that night, but not a whole lot because it was my first game back and I didn't know much about the position I was playing. It was kickoff, and I was on the very end of the field, in my position ready to make the tackle, bound and determined i was gonna make it. I made the tackle, but it didn't go the way i had planned it to go. Instead of making the tackle and standing up and cheering with the team, I made the tackle and laid on the ground in so much pain i thought…

When I left Poland at 18, I thought I was going to be in paradise, but to my disappointment it was far from that. I had to learn a new language and work hard to provide for myself. What kept me motivated was the hope for a better future and an independent life.…

One day nearly two years ago, I came back from the worst trip and experience ever in my life. Three years ago, my family made the biggest decision of our lifetime together and we had decided to move. Now the fact that we were moving didn’t bother me or my little sister, it was just the simple fact that we were moving from our home that we had grown up in our entire life. The only problem was the fact that we had eventually found out that we were going to move to Oregon. This Alabama home that we grew up in was very special to me and my sister but it wasn’t the one of best of places. We had lived right beside our grandparents and we loved to go up the hill and see them and us moving had rendered that possibility from happening any longer.…

Samuel, I really enjoyed your post as I like hearing about other people’s family history since mine is so diverse. With your skin tone, eyes, and hair I can see why someone may say you look Hispanic. At least you take it in stride. Today, too many people get offended when someone calls them the wrong race or ethnic origin. It is really good that you continue your family’s tradition of cooking Greek and Italian dishes and I hope your children continue that. My family has been in this country so long and has so many nationalities in the mix that we have Southern traditions instead of a specific country. I do enjoy researching my family’s history. I do not have anyone famous in my family so far, but my great-great grandfather, Private John Henry Gwathney, did manage to survive the Civil War while serving under General Nathan Bedford Forrest.…

Soccer has been a big part of my life growing up. The biggest thing for me going into high school, freshman year, was making the soccer team. I showed up to every summer camp training first, and would work an hour before practice every day. To get better and impress the coaches. At the end of one practice the coach pulls me aside and tells me "Keep up the good work, you have a spot on Junior Varsity." At my school for a freshman to make JV was a big deal. I was ecstatic. Just as summer camp came to an end, tryouts began. I went into tryouts with great confidence, having no doubts in my mind about what team I made. The week after tryouts they posted the teams, with the confidence I had, I told myself that I didn't even need to look. That I had…
