Over the last few years I was involved with a few different activities like the robotics club and Civil Air Patrol. The Robotics club is a team composed of students from 9th grade to 12th grade along with adult mentors and we build and compete with a robot in the FIRST Robotics Competition. As member of the team I help with the responsibility of getting the robot programmed in the 6 weeks we have to build it. In the past two season our team has been to the regional competition that is held at Lehigh University and last year for the first time we had won a district competition and after regionals we had qualified for the opportunity to go to the World championship in St. Louis, MO. Outside of school I was apart of Civil Air Patrol which is a

Within my school, I am also a member of the Bass fishing team, Volunteens, and National Honor Society (NHS). I have been a member of my high school bass fishing team for all four years of high school. On the team I compete in tournaments each spring to earn a spot on the post season roster. Members of the team are also required to sell raffle tickets to pay for our shirts and other expenses. My freshman year on the team I was one of the top sellers, selling over one-hundred tickets and have continued selling as many as possible. I discovered that the best way is to sell the tickets at our high school boys basketball home games and at the community fish fries. Volunteering in my community is also very important to me, and because of this I joined the Volunteens at my school. With the Volunteens I have helped with the paper…

I was so focused on the academic aspects of school my freshman and sophomore years’ that i wasn’t active in any of my school’s clubs or activities. I finally decided to get more involved my junior year and I joined nearly every club, participated in every activity, and even went to as many sports events as I could have. First and foremost, I have given up much of my personal time to help my community. The past three summers I have volunteered for over eighty hours at St. Rita’s Medical Center here in Lima. For many, this may not sound like a lot but for a teenager to give up part of their summer to help others is a big deal. Volunteering not only takes the will to work but it also takes passion, compassion, and knowledge to follow through with the tasks given to you throughout the day. My eighty hours shows I have all three of these things. I have helped my school by being an excellent scholar and never giving it a horrendous name. I have achieved being an honor student throughout the past three years that I have attended BHS and have always shown pride when representing my school during numerous events. I am always willing to help my teachers when needed, they may be there to teach us but they are also there to learn from us in certain ways. My fellow classmates I do believe would say I am always willing to help them out when I am needed. I would like to organize volunteer time at our local soup kitchen and hospitals, numerous food and clothing drives, and also help with the annual blood drive. All of these things will help our community out in different ways, which will bring good to our fellow people.…

On June 12, 2006, I was ready to board my flight at San Diego International airport, when I was given a once in a lifetime experience. As I began to board, the captain and first officer were greeting the passengers ahead of me. The line was moving very slowly; however, I eventually made it to the front. The captain and I began talking when all of a sudden he asked a very typical question, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” I responded, “I want to be a pilot” and for no apparent reason offered to take me into the cockpit. Inside the cockpit, the captain continued to talk about the plane while pointing to instruments such as altimeter and vertical speed indicator, when I suddenly asked him, “How did he become a pilot?” He responded by saying,…

Joining the future business leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, becoming a youth leader at Christ Church, as well as many other volunteering activities helped me enrich my community, and make an impact in the world around me. Along with these organizations, I have played several sports in high school, in my junior and senior years I settled on my two favorite sports, track and field, and volleyball. Within these sports I have made friendships with my teammates I will never forget, and learned important lessons in humbleness when winning, and cohere with my friends when losing. By being a member of any sports teams at my high school, I regularly attended many of my school’s events, giving me the opportunity to develop relationships, and gain a tremendous sense of pride in my school. I am looking forward to bringing this same sense of pride to my college, and making many new friendships along the way. I learned over the course of my education to this point, that when I became more involved with these activities, my performance in the classroom increased alongside my…

Although these facts came as a shock to me, they also piqued my interest. Because much of my growth can be attributed to the extracurricular activities I have invested myself in, I cannot imagine myself without the demanding cross country practices, or the baked goods I sell to raise funds for Relay for Life, or the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team seminars that my peers and I plan for our school. Although, at times, I become more stressed with the extra demands of my club activities, the fruitful results allow me to relax as my efforts become tangible. By running, baking and socializing, I was able to briefly escape the academic pressures put on me by…
