Personal Narrative: My First Search
At first, I didn't find the database to be useful. My first search was neonatal and nurse practitioner which I got one-hundred and eighty-nine results. I narrowed my the search to find better articles that will help me find a topic. I changed the publication dates from 2011 to 2016, full text, and source type as a magazine. After the changes, the search result was one, and I it was not useful because it was about an Australian nurse and diabetes. Additionally, the article didn't have anything to do with neonatal or newborns.
I changed my keywords to neonatal and nurse which I gave me better results and a few ideas that I could see me writing my paper on. One article talked about how “nurses working in neonatal intensive care feel poorly equipped

I have decided, because my career goal is to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP), that I will investigate the role and job outlook for this position—to educate myself and to produce a source evaluation paper at the same time. Since I have had to look for sources before, I know that the online database ProQuest is an excellent way to find reliable and credible sources. The title of the source that I found on ProQuest is called “Working Together: Neonatal Nurse Practitioners in Practice” written by Redshaw M. and Harvey M.. This source is an academic journal article which examines the role of NNP’s.…

The decision to go into health care was an easy decision for me. It started with the birth of my cusin, he was born premature. He weighed two pounds 13 ounces; he needed specialized care which was provided by neonatal nurses. Neonatal nursing is a relatively new specialty by comparison to adult health, midwifery, or other areas of nursing. Because it is new, there are great opportunities for nurses to devote their skills to newborns who need specialized care. Neonatal refers to the first 28 days of life. Neonatal care, as known in specialized nurseries or intensive care, has been around since the 1960's (AACN, 2010). I was in awe of how they cared for my cusin. When it was time for my cusin to be released I knew I wanted to be a nurse. With life you never know what is coming your way, I did not pursue the field because life happened got married and had three more children. I did not forget that I wanted to be a nurse just couldn’t get it in my grasp.…

In my opinion, the article was very helpful in the sense that it shows how physicians actually think of their nurses. They like that they are older and have a lot of experience. It gave me a good outlook on how they expect the nurses to act and hold themselves. It also gave me a little insight about how important it is to have good communication with your doctor. It will prevent your patients from any harm and it will keep you and your doctor a…

Without neonatal care millions of pre-term infants would not have a fighting chance. Although the schooling and training to become a neonatal nurse can be extensive, it doesn’t have to be. Due to the need for neonatal clinicians many people would choose it for the chance to save an infant’s life, the income or because they just simply want to help.…

I learn good skills that help me to look for sources like a book and an article, and how to skim in a fast way. By the time when I searched for a source I become a good reader. The new thing I learn it is how to find a source, how to use the website of the library of Portland State University, and how to find it in the library. However, the favorite part I like it, it was to search about a source and how to choose a good one. Moreover, I proud of myself because I can decide which sources are helpful or unhelpful by just skimming. This is a big change in my level of English language. Nevertheless, the challenge part it is to find a book in library shelves, but I overcome because I ask for help from librarians to explain for me how to read the…

Most teenagers do not have a clue about what they want to be when they grow up. Most young adults also do not know where their path is in life. Even some full-blown adults are still trying to figure out their purpose. I was lucky. I knew exactly where I belonged from about the time I was seven up until now, at the decently young age of nineteen. I do not see my path changing anytime soon; in fact, I know it will never change. But, I did not just wake up one day as a child and know what my path was, while that would be impressive. Defining moments in one’s life defines who they are. There were lots of things I experienced in my life that made me realize my purpose, my absolute passion. I had four of these defining moments in my short span of…
