Personal Narrative: My First Trip To Hawaii
There are not very many big things in my life that have changed the person I am now but I think that my first trip to Hawaii may be one of the very few events that have. I think that through this experience I have since loved exploring and traveling to new places which is a quality that I think is a big part of who I am.

On the night of my birthday in December of 2014 as I finished opening my last present my mom went upstairs, when she came back down I noticed she had something in her hand. As she got closer I realized that it was just a card so I didn't think much of it. As she handed it to me I asked “For me?” “No, for me.” She said sarcastically. So I opened up the envelope and looked at the card. The room was pretty quiet so it made me feel like something was up which made me speed through reading the card. I spotted a piece of white paper at the bottom of

I could smell the salt from the ocean too. I couldn't believe we had made it! I had wanted to go there all of my life and here it was right before my eyes. Makenzie’s uncle and aunt were going to pick us up at the airport but they hadn't told us that they were there yet so we decided to look around at some of the gift shops while we ventured our way to the parking lot. They I saw Makenzie’s mom waving us over. Her uncle and aunt had been standing there waiting for us the whole time! They were holding an old ruffed up sign that said all of our names on it. He also had tons of lays around his neck. It looked like he just got done at hula lessons or something but it turns out that the lays were for us! I was so excited because they were made out of real flowers and they smelled delicious. We all piled in the car and had to go to costco first because we would need food to eat during our stay. The Costco there was pretty much the same as any other costco. After that we drove a little ways to reach our

Though I hate to admit it, used to be more comfortable following directions than giving them myself. I grew up a shy girl with maybe one or two close friends. I followed the teachers’ directions, listened to my parents, looked after my sister, and remained diligent in my studies. This doesn’t seem so bad, however I was not satisfied with my personality. I was too timid, expressed no unique thoughts, and had almost no independence. This all changed when I was almost ten years old and entered 4-H, the West Hawaii 4-H organization which was geared towards community service and volunteer work to address the four H’s: head, hands, heart, and health.…

It's hard to not know anything about me because I'm pretty much an open book. But if I had to think of something that most people wouldn't know about me it would be that I was born and raised in Hilo. All my life I lived in Hilo up until my freshman year when I moved to Kona. Right now I'm currently a senior attending Konawaena High School. With that being said, I lived on the Kona side for about 4 years now. The main reason for me moving to this side was because both my parents have jobs out here. My dad, being a manager had already been working out on this side as well as on the Hilo side. My mom on the other hand, got a job promotion that had to be taken in Kona.…

In March of my ninth grade year, I got a letter addressed to me in the mail; it was in a big manila folder and had a very formal sticker with my name on it. I was extremely nervous to open it; I thought I had done something wrong even though I couldn’t fathom what. Slowly, I pinched the two metal tabs together to fit through the tiny hole in the flap of the envelope; I reached inside and slid out a fancy cream paper. It had gold designs around the edge, a big gold seal saying “Utah Ambassadors”, and my name in bold print right in the middle of…

Something difficult I have gone through that changed me. Although, in the beginning it was extremely difficult to cope, I believe this experience changed me for the better. It has shaped me into the person I am today. Being the oldest of three in a broken family has forced me to become a role model, and taught me to take on large responsibilities. I learned how to use my independence for the better of my siblings. I learned how to cope with difficult people, I learned how to put on a happy face, I learned how to leave my family life at home. I learned how to be happy with my friends and at school. I learned how to smile through the day, ultimately being content with my life. I gained the strength to look at the pros and not the cons. This unfortunate situation has caused me to become a more positive person. If I could give one piece of advice to…

A big event that has changed my life was when my older brother moved away to go to the navy. This changed my life cause I did not know if I was ever going to see him again. When he told me he was leaving and not going to be back for awhile i thought he was leaving because of me, I was a little brat back then so yeah and at the age i was i thought everything was my fault. The day my brother left was probably the saddest thing to ever happen because me and him would always hang out and play video games or walk around town or do something fun. I remember when we dropped him off at the airport i was clinched on to his leg and i was refusing to let go because I didn’t want him to leave. Now that i look back on it i think one of the reasons why i didn’t want him to leave is because he was kinda like my best friend/ role model so yeah and well he is my older brother and I didn’t want anything to happen to him.…

What’s more was that a few days before my birthday, my mom told me that she would be on a business trip, and would be absent from my big day. She was a busy businesswoman. In my memory, She took lots of business trips, and I seldom saw her at home. Mostly, I saw her sleep deeply in the morning with her suitcase laid beside her bed. When she said sorry to me that she could not celebrate my birthday, I pretended that it was nothing to me though I actually felt disappointed. Nevertheless, we were still in cold relationship, and I did not even want to say goodbye to her when she kissed and hugged me with her suitcase in her hands.…
