Personal Narrative: My First Year Of High School
Throughout my high school life, I have always felt like I could have done academically better. I do have a high GPA as of right now, but I feel like I could have improved myself better. Right now, I am rank 8 out 165 students in my class, so of course I’m in the top 5% of my class. Although, I do feel that I am doing very well with such a high rank, I feel that I could have finer.

If I could go back in time, I would definitely go back to my freshman year. If only I had applied myself the first year of high school, I would have a higher rank. I would change my attitude that I had towards my classes, especially Algebra I.
Algebra was one of the most difficult classes for me, and I wish that I would have gotten help on the subject and attended

Back in 2012 I was accepted into Early college academy at south-ridge (ECAS). This school is particularly special because it allows high school students to take dual credit courses in a community college. Obtaining high grades in my classes while also being required to do my best was something I always had trouble with. I was the the type of person who didn't mind a 70 when it came to report cards, until I found out colleges didn't like students with low grades or at least with low performance like me. My freshman year I made the decision to improve my grades and become a better student.…

Walking into my honors English class my eleventh grade year, I felt as if it would be a breeze. Thinking back to the previous year to when I constantly maintained an “A+” and without hesitation I knew that any test, quiz, or writing prompt I was destined for an “A.” It was until now sobbing in a big puddle of salty water I knew for a fact I was doomed. Although I had never really thought into what karma was and what it really meant. It was my eleventh grade year in high school it had finally caught up to me.…

Starting high school was a terrifying idea to me. Different teachers, class times, lockers, drama! I remember that I always looked up to my older sister while she was in high school. She had tons of friends, played sports, participated in student government, and went out for the school play. I wanted to be just like her when I started high school. In middle school, I lined myself up for this, I played soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. I helped out in the school plays, and I joined the student government. I had a group of great friends, and thought nothing bad was going to happen.…

During my current four years of high school, I have come to a conclusion that life is hard and the decisions you make are very important. This is my last year of high school and I’m the first one to graduate from my family. My grandmother tends to tell me that I don’t need college just a simple 7 month course of medical assistant or dentist assistant and not waste any more money. I’m lost, I wish people could help me out and tried to guide me in the direction of the right decision but is my life and choices. There has been times that my grandmother has told me that I am not going to be somebody in the future.…

I could have broken out of my comfort zone and tried a lot harder than I did. I believe now if I would have had as much confidence as I do now I would have signed up for extra curricular activities, stood up in front of the class and introduced myself to a few more of my peers. I also believe that I could have achieved everything in life that I wanted to at an earlier age instead of waiting until I felt like my ship had almost sailed. If I would have had a growth mindset I wouldn’t have been content to be invisible and there wouldn’t have been anything unrecognizable about me.…

Life was good and merry. I had friends, family, and my laughter. Growing up and born in my native country gave me a feeling like I was wanted there, like I belong there. Laughing and playing were the things I do the most. I got a nickname,”bà điên”(crazy lady), from my random outburst of laugher. I was totally unaware of something that was soon to come and change my life. I was still in grade school playing with my friends when my dad came with the principle and told me that I am going to America.…

During my freshman year of high school I received a letter in the mail. This letter was an invitation to play basketball in Australia, with other boys and girls of my age. The date was September 13, 2011. The letter stated that we would be leaving June 1, of 2012. Of course I wanted to go as soon as I read the letter, but my family was more curious about the trip. We did some research and figured out everything that would be offered on this trip. In my research I read of playing Australian basketball games, snorkeling, swimming in the ocean, surfing, and spending three days on Tangalooma Island. This was enough to convince my family that it would indeed be a fun trip for me to attend.…

In first grade, it was my first year in public school so I didn’t have as much friends as the the people that were in kindergarten last year. When I walked into the room, both of my parents on each of my side they introduced to my teacher then I sat in the empty seat. The person assigned to sit next was a girl named Chloe. At first sight, I mesmerized by the amount of silly bands she had. At that moment I knew I had to be her friend.…

As a high school student, I have to put much thought into the future. I was born in Guatemala, but I was raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana all my life. We came from a very poor place where we had nothing, education was low, crime was high, and food was scarce. When we first came here we honestly didn’t have much. My Mother and I didn’t know English but at the time I was only 3 years old. My mother was carrying my sister so it was very tough at the time for her to find a job because she was expecting to have her very soon. We met with my Grandmother who decided that she wanted to help us until my mom could be stable enough to take care of us on her own. My mother Elizabeth had a degree in Law. She didn’t know English so it was a big problem for her to find a…

Now looking back on things on my last year of high school, I most definitely regret not working hard enough for my grades and taking things seriously. I still haven't got over the fact that I basically messed up my high school education and I honestly don't think I ever will. Though I do feel like a failure, I have faith in myself that I will be able to strive for better in college. Many times I wish that I could reverse back time to fix my mistakes but realistically I know that I can't fix anything in the past, but fix things now in order to get a better future that I want for myself. Throughout this whole entire experience I learned the importance of education and how it will really help for a better future. I also learned the importance of grades and how they could affect your life at an early…

I look forward to your class and hope to gain a lot of knowledge not only in the world of literature, but also work on many soft skills, mainly public speaking. The thing that I am most looking forward to this year is finishing out my last year of high school on a high note. That may be getting high grades in my classes or getting to know my friends or teachers even better. The thing that I am dreading the most is the actual end of high school. That end will in a way signify the end of my childhood and will also be the last time that I will meet many of the friends that I have made in high school.…

Throughout my life school had always come easy to me. I had always gotten straight A's and never had to worry about studying for tests. This all changed when I entered high school and I faced the reality that I was actually going to have to study and spend time on schoolwork. My first semester of high school was rough because never in my life had I studied and now I was faced with copious amounts of homework and weekly tests. My first semester I ended up getting B’s for the first time and even a C and I was heartbroken. I remember sitting there that whole winter break after receiving the exam grades and thinking about how bad the rest of high school was going to be. I then realized that instead of complaining about this obstacle in my life…
