My team, my coaches, and I shared the accomplishment of being North Tier League (NTL) champions. Also, because we were North Tier League champions, we were recognized in the school yearbook and received an NTL patch for our varsity jackets. We won this title after we went the entire season undefeated in our league for both boys and girls. We were always prepared for what each team had to offer as competition. We worked very hard after school for many hours, five days a week. The countless hours of practice really paid off in the end.
At our last track meet, we knew that if we won this game we would be champions. This made us very determined and motivated to work hard. During our track meets, we would push each other to do the best we could. This included yelling motivational words as we watched our teammates run, and cheering them on.

Everyone on my team shared in his pride, though perhaps not quite so enthusiastically. We were all proud of ourselves. We were each individually awarded blue ribbons and collectively awarded a plaque and two trophies, one for first place and the other for holding one slot for so long. On our way to the final game I was scoring goals left and right to help lead my team to the championship. That day we were playing phenomenally as a team and it looked as if nobody was going to be able to stop us. The one reason why my team and I played so well together was because we were all best friends. We were a team both on and off the field. Our team was strong physically, technically, and everyone was mentally tough except for me.…

To me a growth mindset means you overcome the obstacles. In other words when something gets in the way of your dreams and goals, you persevere. You learn from your mistakes and take into consideration how you could have done something differently in order to succeed. This reflection allows for growth. Defeat doesn't discourage you. Instead, it pushes you to do better next time.…

My track odyssey began shortly after cross country ended. I trained religiously in the off season, putting in an incredible amount of mileage and time into perfecting my craft. After being a varsity member in cross country, I would stand for nothing besides the same varsity success in track too. Nothing would disappoint me more than failing to secure a top spot in the mile. In track, there is indoor season and outdoor season. The indoor season is like the middle child. No one really likes it but they have to take care of it anyways. My first experience in track was an indoor 1600m at the Normal West invitational against my old rival Tyler Dunn of West. I was confident before the race began, and it showed when I ran 4:54, 6 seconds…

On an early Saturday morning, I laced up my shoes and began warming up as I prepared for my first track meet. As my anticipation was building for the race, I thought about what I wanted and what I had to do to reach that point. When I heard the gun go off I immediately burst into a sprint and pushed myself to the finish line. I came in second place out of 43 other girls. At that moment an idea sparked in my mind, “I’m going to make it to the state track meet and win it”. I set my mind to it and I was determined to reach my goal.…

An accomplishment of mine that marked my transition from childhood to adulthood within my culture, community, and family was learning to drive. The steps from studying the books from the DMV, to going out with my parents and the behind the wheel program at school, to getting my own car all helped prepare me for the next section of my life. And while this accomplishment may seem minute to some, it was major for me because it was something I really wanted and not everyone my age are in the same position. This accomplishment was a milestone for me mentally, extended my responsibilities and freedom physically, and lessens the burden for my parents.…
