Personal Narrative: My Hard To Sleep
BEFORE I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP

BEFORE I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP…
That i should rest before i sleep
I hope that evil does not creep
Into my dreams as while I sleep

I PRAY TO THE LORD MY SOUL TO KEEP…
My faith through the darkness, I shall keep
For what I have sown, I hope not to reap
My faith may be shaken, but the foundation will keep

IF I SHOULD DIE, BEFORE I WAKE…
In my honor, I hope I’m given a wonderful wake
But all the same, I pray for my sake
I sleep in peace, to not face the fears that keep me awake

I PRAY THE LORD, MY SOUL TO TAKE…
And forgive me for not giving, when all I did was take
And for allowing me to survive all the mistakes I make
Knowing at any moment, I’m his to take

AMEN

My greatest influences are my parents and my brother. My brother suffered from Guillain- Barre Syndrome when he was eight. He lived in the hospital on an artificial ventilation for 97 days and later he had to continue physical therapy for at least ten years as he was completely paralyzed. My parents and my brother devoted their few years completely for his treatment. Today, my brother is a successful engineer working in the bay area. I learned that with dedication, determination and diligence we can achieve our dream in life…

In Anne Orthwood's Bastard, John Ruston Pagan focuses our attention on the legalities surrounding a single case of out-of-wedlock pregnancy in seventeenth-century Virginia. Prosecutions for fornication and premarital pregnancy were common matters in early modern courts in Virginia, British North America, and England. Through Pagan's narrative, this seemingly routine case gains significance for early American legal history. He argues that the event, its characters, and the legal suits it generated, revealed that by the last half of the seventeenth century, Virginians had shaped a distinct legal culture on the Eastern Shore.…

Every morning I wake up to the annoying sound of Abigael’s alarm clock and the smell of my own leather. Don’t get me wrong; I love waking up to the song, “Endlessly” by the Cab, but does it have to be at six-fifteen in the morning every day even on weekends? I mean, does she not like to sleep? I’ll never understand it. Once Abigael finally wakes up, the anticipation starts to set in. Which pair of shoes will she choose today? Fortunately for me there’s not too much competition. There are the smelly sneakers, the blue heels, myself, and then there’s the cowboy boots. I cannot stand those cowboy boots and there are three pairs of them! I understand that since I am an ankle boot myself, I should get along with them more, but I hate them. They always pick on me since I’m too short to be considered a cowboy boot, which leaves me in this odd in between group…

Regardless of it being a weekend or a weekday, I always start my day with a schedule. One of the biggest lessons I have is to limit my time on TV, social media and my cell phone. It was a stormy, Tuesday night at ‘Walmart’. I walked into the store looking for one thing, and one thing only. A couple minutes passed and then I saw her. I instantly thought she was the one and no one else could satisfy my desperate needs for her. As I walked into aisle 5 I noticed I was not the only one after her. I was insistent that she was going to be mine, so I fought hard and strong for her. The fight felt like it lasted days and nights, but it truly only was about 5 minutes. Fighting for her was challenging, but at last she was mine, I walked up to her and took her to the register. I payed $14.87 for her (including tax), but to me, she was priceless.…

One thing that sets me apart from the other candidates applying to the University of California is my hard work. I have always been smaller than other kids my age. At 15 years old I was 4’ 10’’ and looked like I was eleven years old. Although this was an advantage at the airport, when I would begin to take off my shoes and the TSA Officer would look at me and say, “Don’t worry twelve and under can keep their shoes on.” I was often discredited for my size. Especially because I played volleyball, a sport known for its height. I constantly struggled to make a team I deserved to be on because people would see my height and automatically think I was not capable. Although my height often led me to feel discouraged and angry it eventually taught hard work.…

It was a perfectly normal Saturday night, until I sat on the couch. I expected to enjoy a funny movie with my dad, but instead I got a trip to the hospital. I sat on the couch, and then I felt a sting in my elbow. At first, it felt like I got a shot at the doctor, but it slowly got worse, and felt more like a knife slicing into my elbow. I winced and sprung up from the couch. I squinted and my eyes scanned the spot where I just sat down. Aha, I thought. There was a small piece of plastic, and it looked like it broke off from a container.…
