Hello my new classmates! My name is Brooke, I'm 19 and the oldest of 3 children. Kathy, it appears you have gained valuable knowledge and learning experiences during your practicum internship thus far. Your review of goals and objectives are attributes that will facilitate further development of your leadership skills, how exciting! The insight that you provided through the nurse/physician communication and collaboration seminar was valuable knowledge for me to reflect upon in my leadership development. The remaining goals and objectives that you have outlined in order to meet the course concepts and finalization of practicum experience will provide additional attributes and skills to foster your journey in attaining leadership growth. The simulation lab sounds exciting and appears to have attained a positive collaboration with the right stakeholders to facilitate the evidence-based practice concepts needed to provide favorable educational guidance that is conducive to the organization’s educational goals.…
To accomplish my goal I did some refreshment my nursing skill and producers before clinical. I reviewed my nursing skill and procedure to refresh my brain about how to administer parental injection, the right site for IM and S/C, and size and length of needles. I reviewed my health and physical assessment videos and review my nursing skill notes how to assess head to toe and pain scale, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and CIWA Scale which helped me a lot to refresh my skills. Also, I looked up my previous clinical worksheets which reminded me some nursing diagnosis and…
The next part of my journey consists of going to medical school, getting an internship, as well as completing residency afterward. The medical school will last up to 4 years with the internship combined into the last 2 years of being in medical school. Internship and residency combined are usually between 3 to 8 years (How to Become a Physician or Surgeon). All states require physicians and surgeons to be licensed. To qualify for a license, I must graduate from an accredited medical school, complete residency training in a specialty that I choose, and pass written and practical exams. There are many different graduate schools that are really great but the three that I have real interests for are PITT School of Medicine, Oregon Health Science…
The future is a scary, but also exciting, thing to think about. I feel lucky to have been given the opportunity to take this course where exploring our education and our future was the whole point. I feel as though I learned a lot during the duration of this course, but I haven’t really had the opportunity to put it into practice yet which is why I am glad this paper was assigned. It gives me the opportunity to really explore my future in ways I haven’t done so yet. In order to really see how this course has affected me, I must first look back at old assignments to see how I have changed since the beginning of this course and during the duration of this course.…
I am interested in pursing the major I chose above because I have developed a passion for medicine through my own health obstacles. I suffer from Chronic Migraines, which has caused me to spend a great deal of my life in doctor's offices. Positive experiences with my doctors lead to me idolizing them as a young child; so much so that I memorized the every bone in the body at the age of five. This passion stayed alive and well as I grew older, however my admiration began to transition from the doctors themselves to the subject. This all stemmed from my own health; I wanted to know exactly what was happening with my body and why. Now, I want to dedicate my life to the subject and possibly be the doctor that inspires someone to discover their…
Before this shadowing experience, I knew that pursuing a career in medicine is something that I was interested in, but I never had a real experience to examine a typical doctor's life. After the first week of shadowing, I started getting a sense of what it is to be a doctor. Becoming a doctor is not something easy. Every time I went to the office, there was a big list of patients that doctor Eloy had to meet. He had to be careful about the way he acts and the way he talks with patients, nurses, and other doctor. Even though it seemed so hard at the beginning, I enjoyed this experience and I learned a lot from it. I learned that being a doctor requires more than going to medical school. Medical school is just the first step. I learned that a…
my community. It provided me a chance to understand socialand cultural aspects of life in general, and was wonderful to…
When I first started to learn the world of medical terms I was completely overwhelmed with the amount of words that didn’t match anything I already knew. It was like I was learning an entire new language that was developed entirely to confuse someone like me; a person who has only spoken, read, and written in one language her entire life. To add to this confusion, I also soon discovered that many words were spelled and pronounced the same even though their definitions were entirely different. When I thought I found a way to remember a certain term and its definition, I later became more confused while gaining knowledge of additional comparable medical terms. Although medical terminology seems endless and offers no easy learning curve balls,…
My interest in the dental field began when I was very young. I remember when my grandparents used to take me to the toy shop and I used to pick out dental toys instead of typical ones such as Barbie’s, dolls, or kitchen appliances. I would get so excited to get home and pretend to clean my brothers’ teeth. After a few years of such behavior, it was evident to myself and those around me that I had an unexplainable attraction to this profession. It got to a point where I began to fake tooth aches just so that my parents would take me to the dental clinic; being in a dental chair made me that happy.…
While working at the University of Miami Hospital, I had the rare opportunity to shadow with Dr. Garcia-Soto who was a gynecology fellow at the time. She allowed me to sit in with her on two separate surgeries, one being a complete hysterectomy and the other being a vaginal tumor removal with the implantation of a vaginal stent. This experience has most significantly influenced my decision to study medicine because it has enlightened me about the practicalities of being a physician. For both surgeries I was able to follow Dr. Garcia-Soto through her rounds with the patients, listen as she described the procedures and set expectations, observe the surgical team prep the patient and operating room, and watch as she performed both procedures.…
During my time in the United States, I gained 12 months of invaluable hands on clinical experiences in both inpatient and outpatient Family Medicine clinic. I had opportunities to learn about electronic medical records [EMR] , take extensive histories, administer vaccines and perform supervised physical examinations. It was an ocean of new learning experiences for me. More inspiring, I saw the way American physicians interacted with their patients and how the right management made tremendous improvement in the quality of lives of patients. Through my rotations, I imbibed many aspects transcending the academic environment, such as the art and tact of talking to patients .I was amazed by the amount of psychological issues discussed in the ‘Medical…
The day I became intrigued with Anatomy was the day that my mom told me that when I around 6, I was diagnosed with kawasaki disease, A rare disease that affects fewer than 20,000 people a year. After staying in the hospital for two weeks, I started reading book after book about how the human body defends against disease and infection and the many systems that make up the body such as, The Nervous, Muscular, and Skeletal systems. But, it wasn’t until high school that my passion for Anatomy began to broaden. RephraseDue to the fact that my teacher had me examine different kinds of connective tissue under a microscope such as, bone, cartilage, and adipose tissue. All that was missing was blood, to which she said “The blood I brought was frozen…
Apparently I'm in a very good position in this part of my life. I'm always considering possible consequences before acting, meaning that I rarely act without analyzing the situation. Also, as a human being, I make mistakes but I always learn something from them to avoid making the same mistakes. What is very important to me is that my family and friends take very seriously my opinion, which means a lot to me because that shows me that I am very important to them. I believe that in my Intellectual Health I have to improve nothing because I feel that I'm doing a pretty good job with the people around…
My interest in the medical field began when I was in fourth grade. The way that this came about may not be common, but I now realize that everything happens for a reason. At the age of nine I had the urge to pull out my eyelashes, later I would learn that this is called trichotillomania. But even before I knew what it was called I realized that something was wrong with me.…
