Personal Narrative: My Interest In Writing
Writing is serious business. I always remind myself that when I show off my work to someone that took a writing course and have over ten years of writing experience. One day I will like to take a writing course and improve.

But for now, I gotta keep writing how I write.

In my life, I've been through a lot of happenings is why I write. I write for comfort and share stories to connect with others.

Writing a story free from mistakes without any type of training nor educational background, I say, hey. Thank goodness for editors and thank goodness for self-publishing. I do listen to things people tell me, even if I wouldn't show it, because good writing I believe is about taking criticism well. And it is. I had an interest in writing

I am writing this quick letter to introduce myself and tell you a bit about my accomplishments and aspirations as a writer. I won't say that writing is in my blood or my genes or anything like that, but I will say that I do have an insatiable urge to write. I cannot say, but I definitely feel that writing is a passion of mine that I greatly enjoy. It is an urge that can only be satisfied and, even then, only temporarily, by stringing words together into a narrative. Ultimately, I greatly enjoy writing, although I do not consider myself to be stellar at it; I would call it a passion more than anything else.…

I have always had struggles and difficulties when it comes to writing. This is due to the fact that English is not my first language, and that I am still learning. I started to learn how to speak, and listen, and mainly write in English when I was in ninth grade. Writing has been the hardest to deal with it, because I have many spelling and mechanical errors and most importantly, how to organize an essay, but this changed when I took English 49 with Professor Lucero. In my first day of class, I was assigned to write an essay about my experience with writing. I was not completely sure on how to start my essay and how to organize it. When I was in High School, I did not write many essays, and the few I did, I have endless help. So, I just my…

During the past four years of attending Newark High School, working on MLA format was something teachers worked very hard on to teach students. Every essay written by each student had to be correctly written in MLA format or else you would fail a writing assignment. This has been taught since the start of Freshmen year of school. There was no way around this rule. From just graduating High School, I am very experienced with writing essays. In many different classes we had to write essays. We did not just write essays in English. Students had to write essays in Math, Biology, Psychology, French, History, Government, and many more classes.…

The art of writing is a unique skill that requires the writer to have great flexibility and be open to improvement. Some may consider themselves a “perfect writer”, when in reality, no one is, and will ever be. Writing is a process that requires one to continuously build on skills learned in previous situations, applying new techniques and strategies to future writing projects. Different settings require different writing styles, and with that being said, one must be willing to change their writing skills to suit the requirements of their current setting. In the following essay I will reflect on past writing assignments, identifying my best and worst writing courses, strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and my opinion on why writing may or may not be beneficial to me throughout my career.…

As I sit here now writing this journal, I can’t help but feel how brilliantly ironic it is to write a whole journal on the topic of how I write. Besides that though, I guess I should begin. Writing, for me, has always been somewhat of a friend and a home. It’s been a companion through dark times, and a place I could go no matter how I was feeling. I have a deep love of the written word, and a great respect for anyone who puts pen to paper. (Or, in the new age of “handy-dandy” Chromebooks, anyone who puts keys to Google Docs.) That all being said, I have mixed feelings on how I view myself specifically. I think in my many years of jotting down random short stories and poetry, I have developed a strong grasp of all the traits of writing. On the other hand though, I definitely think there are still areas of my writing that could be improved.…

    Why I hate writing

Writing is a way to express beautiful thoughts through paper; there have been people who are horrible conversationalists but with a pen and paper create a story that has more meaning than any words that left my mouth. Then there’s me. I’m going to just come out and say it I hate writing I absolutely positively hate it. If I had to choose between writing and getting a tooth pulled let’s just say that I would be missing a lot of teeth. The reasons I hate writing are numerous. I can’t just single out one of them and say “This is why I hate writing!” then go on some dramatic rant of an experience I had years ago that led me to hating writing today. There are many things that contribute to this hatred, one being that I absolutely hate explaining myself. I always have since I was a child. Simple questions like “What did you learn in school today?” annoyed the crap out of me, made me feel like I was being interrogated. I love hearing things in detail but having to put things in detail for someone else is a long annoying process to me, which sucks because so much of writing is detail. Right now I’m kind of stuck between majors and I’m realizing that I’m needing writing more and more, there is absolutely no way for me to run from it anymore so I might as well embrace it. By the end of this semester I will choose whether or not I’ll continue being a law major or go with my first choice and study archeology, which has been a dream of mine since I was in fifth grade. Either way writing is going to play a big part in both fields, especially since I want to get my doctorate. I need writing classes because I want to show people how intelligent I am on paper and in person. When I publish a book I want my readers to feel like they were at the dig with me or actually they’re watching me in court.…

Some people are not sure whether they can call themselves writers simply because they are encountering some struggles in their writing. Struggling to write does not mean that you are not a good writer. If you struggle to get your meaning across in the written form, the thinking goes that you must not be a really good writer. It’s true that words come easily to some people than others but real writers will have to work hard and master their work and craft well.…

I’ve been asked many questions about how to write, when to write, and even what to write. Well, in each of these and many more questions there is a simple answer and that is just to write. There are as many reasons not to write, but it only takes one to change that absurd thought. Now let’s get down to what is the question behind the question that is the answer of all answers. What will it take for me to be a better writer? In other words, what will it take for me to write like a famous author and receive fame and fortune? Once again there are many who say they know the answer to that, but the only one who can truly help you become on par with those who you admire and receive that big payday and people lined up for your autograph. Sorry…

When learning to write and throughout writing experiences many individuals can lose hope and allow their nerves get the best of them. I have by no means been the greatest writer or even believed in my writing abilities; however, when reading Anne Lamott’s book, “Bird by Bird”, I realized many other people may feel the same way. “Bird by Bird” educated me and its‘other readers, to make the most of our writing abilities. The book, first made me realize to never expect greatness straight away. Lamott states, “they might be good someday if they just keep the faith and keep practicing” (Lamott xxix). This permitted me to recognize the fact that writing is a learning experience. Writing should be taken one step at a time and in order to start writing, the…
