Personal Narrative: My Interview With A Single Mother

The person I decided to interview for this assignment was my mother. I decided to interview my mother out of the women in my life because we do not have a good relationship at all. But, she has made me the person I am today. I am strong. I am independent. I am carefree and fearless because of her. My mother has always been supportive of all the decisions I have made and has been there for me through many different situations. We share a lot of life experiences which has always showed me that it is going to be okay. I started out the interview with my mother by asking her about her childhood. The question I decided to ask “What was it like for you, growing up as a girl?”. My mother told me that she was the youngest of seven. Her parents did not pay much attention to her since she was one of seven. My mom experienced physical abuse from her brothers. She said that
My mom said that she received a lot of negative stigma about being a single mother. She had experienced her boyfriends and friends telling her that she should have had an abortion if she was not married but got pregnant. She said raising a child as a single mother was one of the hardest things she has ever had to do because she literally had no one. She mentioned that she made a lot of mistakes while being a single mother that she probably would not have made if she would have had help. It was a difficult task but she did it. I know that my mom really struggled with raising me but she did her best. I knew this information before asking her about it for the interview but it is still shocking to me that someone would tell their significant other or friend to get an abortion if they are not married. I believe that having children is a personal right if she wanted to have me then she could have but if she wanted to abort me then so be it. Who is anyone to tell you what you should do with your
