Personal Narrative: My Most Influential Role Model
All my life I have looked up to strong leaders. These people included family members, friends, celebrities, leaders in my church, and other various characters in my life. Now I strive to be a leader that others can look up to. I want people to know they can trust me to give them the best advice that I have. I want to direct people towards
God in all aspects of life. My personal faith and beliefs will contribute to Liberty’s mission to develop Christ centered leaders by being there for others in their growth towards Christ, and to step up as a leader myself when it is needed.
My most influential role model would be my father. He has raised me to trust
God with everything in my life. Even when life seems to be going in a negative

Honesty, authenticity, genuineness, bravery, and valor are my top strengths. I was shocked by these results not only because I feel they are extremely accurate, but these are the things I value most in life, especially honesty, I feel that you can hate a man to the core, but if that man is a truly honest man you can only respect him. I want to be an epitome of a truly honest man, and I believe my character strengths will help me achieve this goal. My bottom strengths were the love of learning, self-control, and regulation. I feel these strengths are just as important as my top strengths, and I need to maximize them all in order to become a great leader. After completing the StregthsQuest survey, I learned that my five greatest strengths are Harmony, Competition, Achiever, Includer, and Communication. Some of these strengths I had previously recognized as a strength, but a few were a surprise to me. Growing up, I was always a competitive person. I enjoyed the thrill of winning, whether it be in a team effort or individual effort. Also, I have always wanted to achieve great things in both my personal and professional life. I believe that I have always been great at communicating with others and love to include others in everything that I do to achieve a goal. The biggest strength of mine that surprised me most was Harmony. However, after reading about each strength, I know how I have utilized…

My two core values are Family and Faith. My top priorities in life are God and my family. It wasn't hard for me to choose my top two core values because I know that with God and my family I am able to achieve the other things. My family were the first people to provide me with love, happiness, friendship, and wisdom. They have been here for me every step of the way and as I am getting older, everything I strive to be and to do is ultimately to help them and make them proud. Faith is very important to me and that is something that my family has taught and instilled in me. Everything I do is for the approval of God. I have learned that hat God has for me is for me. Therefore, I am able to achieve success, peace, status, and wealth if that is…

My whole life I have been a leader, the rule maker, the boss, a take charge and a "get stuff done" type of person. These qualities I attribute to being the oldest sibling, raised by a strong mother, and a stepfather determined to raise another man’s child as best he could. I thrive in situations where I can have control and can help guide a team or myself to the best possible outcome. I apply these characteristics to nearly every aspect of my life, sometimes to a fault. After dropping out of college eight years previously, to follow my dreams of being a makeup artist, I woke up one day and decided my life need a change. Not completing school had always weighed on me over the years like an unfinished task needing to be done. So, why now, what changed? My outlook on life shifted after meeting a special little boy named Jackson.…

My actions are always a direct showcase of my personal characteristics. A few that are particularly important are having patience, being non-judgmental, and thinking creatively. I learned a majority of my patience through my position as a research position. Research does not have immediate results; a good experiment takes time. My seemingly menial tasks, such as entering data, eventually contributed to the final product. I learned to be non-judgmental in my time shadowing an obstetrician, where I interacted with patients with so many stories. To judge them would cause a disservice, and potentially harm them. Finally, I learned to think creatively during my time at the Guild for Human Services. Each student was unique in his or her problems,…

Life can be a treacherous journey that even the toughest people have trouble making it through. No one, not even the greatest superheros can get through it alone. We all need some sort of mentor. Someone like Mr. Miyagi was to Karate Kid and Athena was to Odysseus. I am no different, a mentor’s job is to lead and guide you through whatever life throws your way. My mentor has done that and much more. Normally it seems most mentors either come from different ethnicities or cultural backgrounds but, not in this case. Me and my mentor share a ton of the same characteristics and traits. Although he is older and much more wiser, we are still close enough in age to experience and enjoy some of the same cultural activities. One of them being checking…

Football has always been a big part of my life. As a young boy I would day dream of making insane touchdowns, making tackles that would leave man stuck in the ground, and even winning the heisman trophy. In 7th grade I had begged my mother endlessly to sign me up for pee wee football because she would always worry about the risks of football. After finally getting her to sign me up, we went straight into the season. I chose to play running back because as a 12-year-old I was remarkably fast having timed 5.3 in the 40 yard-dash. After a few weeks in the season we approached the playoffs and found out our opponent for the first round of the playoffs were the jaguars who were undefeated. Our team didn’t have the best chemistry on…

First year teachers come with lots of worries and concerns to the new working environment. No matter how well trained them or what degrees they obtained. Being in the practical/real experience is a complete different scenario. They need a kind extended hand to take them through this first year with clear, easy steps and guide them through their job requirements, until they feel confident enough and are off on "their own". Our role as mentors and leaders is to provide that guidance and support with an open heart and lots of patience to the different areas of need. We have to be committed to doing that and giving constructive feedback that will help this fresh teacher learn and grow. We have to be very patient again and accept that this new teacher lacks experience and hold his/her hand through this journey. We have to model classroom strategies and how planning is done over and over again till they grasp it and…

Having a mentor is a truly rewarding experience, it helps build relationships and bonds that can create lifelong relationships. I really enjoyed meeting with my mentor Devon French. Devon is originally from the Chicago suburbs and attended school at the University of San Diego for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. He started his career at Deloitte during the fall of 2014 and currently is entering his second year as an Audit Senior. During his tenure at Deloitte, he has served a number of industries including retail/distribution, media, not-for-profits, government, and manufacturing.…

    My Role Model

My role model would have to be my dad. I chose him because we are a lot alike and have very similar personalities and work ethics. You see my daddy grew up in a poor family, headed by his dad most of the time. My granny—my dad’s mother didn’t have a college education, I don’t even know if she graduated high school to be quite honest, so she usually stayed home to be a house wife . So as you can guess being from a poor family my dad didn’t get the chance to go to college on his father expense but he went college, through work sponsorship . He began working at the age of 10 with my grandfather in a meat shop. My dad saved all the money he made and bought his first car at the age of 18, regardless it was a very nice car, it was a fast car, but yet it ran and that was good enough for my dad at the age of 18. When my dad graduated high school at the age of 18 he began working for a company in the airport and he married my mother when he was 29 and she was 24, five years later they had my sister and my other sister, not long before they had me. My dad decided he wanted to be an engineer. My dad has built his own house by his bare hands and about anything else you can think of—he’s very talented.…

The person who I truly believe is my role model would be my mother. A fifty two year old lady. Who is a strong woman I wouldn’t be able to compare her with any other. I will be doing an interview to my mother to find out information I have always wondered. My mother has always been a hard working woman without the need of help of anybody her and my father have successfully raised six children in a great way. I admire my mother more because she is the strongest and stricter with her children while my father was the most outgoing and easy on the attitude. Our interview went well and we cleared out most things I never knew why she did them.…
