Personal Narrative: My Personal Obstacles In My Life
Everyone in life will have their own personal obstacles they will have to face in life. Some people will mentally shut down and give up when faced with a challenge. Others will take their challenges and use them to better themselves. The obstacles that I have faced in my life have never hit me harder than they have these past few months. This being my senior year, I always expected it to be the most laid back and relaxing year of my high school career. When in fact I set myself up for one of the biggest challenges of my life so far, by signing up for multiple online college classes, helping out with activities all over the school, and playing football for the first time since freshman year. Although, under all this immense pressure, this is where my true colors came out. I didn’t stop working to my full potential, …show more content…
But then, one varsity football game on a Friday night I have been hit in the leg with my opponent’s helmet. I tried to walk it off, but the pain was overwhelming and the coaches had to take me out of the game. A few days after the game, the pain had still not gone away so my parents decided to get my leg checked out at the hospital. After a quick X-ray it was clear to the doctors that I had two small fractures in my leg, they went on to tell me that I could not play football for a couple of weeks, meaning I would not be able to play some of the last football games of my senior year. So under all this stress, pain and the amount of time football took out of my day, I was close to just giving up on my grades and to just start to feel sorry for myself, but I decided to keep on working and never giving up, because I always believed that “Success isn’t always about greatness, it’s about consistency…” -The Rock. These words have been a part of the few of which I follow with all my heart through this crazy game of

I’m happy with who I am today, just as everyone should be. But if I could change anything about myself, I’d want to have more motivation to do things. In the mornings before school I can barely get out of bed because I’m so tired and don’t want to go to school. I’m exceedingly intelligent but I don’t have any drive. I procrastinate on most of my work, and sometimes I just don’t want to do the work. Right now I’m rank 14 in my class but I could’ve been higher if I had any drive my freshman year. I don’t think about how my decisions now will impact me later and when I do, I don’t really care. I also don’t have much motivation to do things in sports activities. Last year I played volleyball and I never had that much playing time. Never being able…

My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. In high school, my mother wanted to play football and couldn't because she was a girl and back-in-the-day women were not allowed to play football with the guys. However, she remained strong by raising 6 kids and independently took care of all of us on her own. My mother has several qualities that I would love to develop. The first quality she has is balance; she certainly knows how to make…

My actions are always a direct showcase of my personal characteristics. A few that are particularly important are having patience, being non-judgmental, and thinking creatively. I learned a majority of my patience through my position as a research position. Research does not have immediate results; a good experiment takes time. My seemingly menial tasks, such as entering data, eventually contributed to the final product. I learned to be non-judgmental in my time shadowing an obstetrician, where I interacted with patients with so many stories. To judge them would cause a disservice, and potentially harm them. Finally, I learned to think creatively during my time at the Guild for Human Services. Each student was unique in his or her problems,…

Life is full of risks. And not all risks are predictable. The first and the biggest crisis in my life happened a few days after the fifteenth birthday. I was diagnosed with a kind of cancer and took a year off from middle school to have chemotherapy after surgery. Fortunately, I was on the mend after hospitalizing for the first three months, so I received the outpatient treatment after that. Now it was time to go back to school. However, I had a lot of different thoughts running through my mind. I no longer wanted to take my life for granted. Instead, I wanted to be stronger and challenge myself. So I decided to go on to high school in the abroad. I persuaded my parents for six months and they finally agreed to let me move to New York! It was…

Every human struggles everyone has hardship. When I was young I began to notice that maybe it is hard to understand what other people struggle with. The start of a mundane life began as usual a bus ride to school, but today something else happened a flash of yellow a soundless luxury sports car zoomed bass by a Lamborghini. As the car passed by everyone looked at it with amazement as the never seen a car pass from this part of the street. I began to wonder when will I get one with imaginary job I will live the high life. The bus hits a bump on the road I am begging to rationalize who much work will it take to achieve greatness to struggle to overcome adversity.…

Personal background starts off small, it changes and grows over time into something big, it grows into an identity. Walking down the hallway at school, seeing someone standing alone, my first instinct is to make conversation, compliment, or even just smile at him or her. This instinct came from someone once telling me an act so small could turn a person's entire life around. As a kid, reading encyclopedias about random topics, consumed my time. Many days were spent coming home to find an injured wild animal in my dad's arms waiting to be saved. My dad would sit outside and draw animals, trees, and anything else he saw. Nothing excited me more than trying to draw whatever my dad drew, and as good as he did. Any assignment that was handed to…

    True Overcoming story

I've had many experiences throughout my life some big some and some small but they have all affected me and made me who I am today. An important experience i've overcome was simply being able to get all my high school academics in order to play football in college. It was a hard thing to do but I managed to overcome a tough obstacle to be able to play football in college. It was a frustrating time in my life and sometimes I wanted to quit but with help from my family and some of my teachers I got through it. My experience happened around the middle of my junior year when colleges seemed to express interest to play football. It had always been a dream of mine to play college football. After talking to my guidance counselor I learned I wasn't eligible to play because I only took college prep courses my freshmen year and not my sophomore and junior year. To be eligible I needed to go back and retake classes i've already passed. Even though I had already passed these courses once the workload was exhausting and extremely frustrating. I had to go to summer school and take extra courses during the school year. Instead of getting a half day of school my senior year like most of my friends I had to sit in 10th and 11th grade classes all day. It honestly made me feel stupid sitting in classes with 10th graders but I knew I had to do it. At times I just thought I should stop trying because I didn't feel like sitting in classes I had already taken and passed. Constant reminders from my teachers, guidance counselor and especially my parents I managed stay on task and succeed in passing all of these classes again. Them helping me and standing behind me really helped me overcome his experience. Looking back at this experience taught me to never give up and always try hard despite obstacles thrown at…

I had started to be that girl who sat at lunch by herself, or even went into a teacher's classroom just to get away from all the hate. It all started when I lost my father. It put me in a deep depression. I started to wear baggy clothes and not talk to any of my friends. They still tried to talk to me but all I did was block them out. My dad was my idol. I wanted to be him. Every Sunday after church we would go to the basketball court for over two hours just working on my lay-ups and free throws. He said when I was fourteen we would start on three pointers for high school basketball. He never made it. After he passed I quit basketball whenever I see a game on TV it brings back the good memories i’ll never get to have again. Channel 34 was ESPN,…

I have to say that my greatest obstacle would have to be myself. My parents have instilled in me a sense of personal responsibility for my actions in life. When I mess up and it is my fault then I cannot blame anyone else for the repercussions. As a young black man in the world today I do not see my race as an inherent disadvantage . My thinking is if I work hard and stay out of trouble good things will come. Will I be mistreated at some point in my life? Yes, who hasn't. Human beings are, well, human. All of us have mistreated, judged, and discouraged someone. In some cases we do these things to our race, creed, or ethnicity. This brings me to the character of Jackie Robinson. He endured real obstacles that were set in place for people who…

If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my boring childhood was like, and how my parents were always treating my little brothers better, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth. I'm not going to tell you my whole goddam autobiography or anything like that, but I guess I'll just tell you about this madman stuff that happened to me around last week. First off, I had just finished my History class and was packing my goddam bags to get ready for lunch. I went down the stairs and waited in the lunch lines. There were at least five crazy bastards cutting in line, but I was too tired to give a damn. I trudged down to my usual sitting place and greeted Joe and Jhon. Joe was a psychotic Asian who thought he was a white kid, its…
