Personal Narrative: My Pneumonia
The kitchen was nice and cozy that I felt like cooking. My mom and sister is usually busy that I have to cook supper or I have to bake cookies. This is what they say, “Elle! I’m going to get some groceries in Peoria. So can you make so lasagna for the family. I’ll text on my way home. Thanks!”. So that is usually what I do.
I am usually making supper when my mom is coming home from like an hour away or maybe from Peoria. I make cookies when the cookies in our freezer are almost gone. I just made a batch of dough on Saturday and then my mom just made the cookies. “Elle, I’ve got another favor for you! Can you make more cookies so your siblings can have some for school the next day?” That is what my mom would say to me most every time when the

I am really bad at finding cookies that my family likes. “What kind of cookies do you guys want? I can make peanut butter cookies? Do you want those?” Then Kyle would respond, “I don’t know what those kind tastes like, but I can try them! Thank you Elle!” I usually go around asking what cookies they like, but that’s not all the time. Most of the time I make chocolate cookies. So I flip to the cookies section and start looking.
So this time I did go around asking my family what kind of cookies they wanted. I think this was the new recipe I had brought over from babysitting one time where I made cookies for this family that wanted me to make cookies, after the kids were asleep. I just made them and thought everyone would like these peanut butter kind of cookies. Right when I got home from babysitting the kids, I said, “Mom! I brought home a new recipe that tastes really good!” She answered, “Good! I need more cookie recipes but I hope they taste good!” As you can tell our family is

After I add all the ingredients, I take out a pan. I usually take out 2 pans because of our family. Our family is a big family so we make 2 the times of the recipe so we double the recipe. Then I took the Canola Oil out and sprayed the pan. So then I take out 2 cookie sheets so then it can go faster to cook the cookies.
“Almost done with the cookies!” That’s what I told my sister, Lena. Next, is when I take the scooper out of the drawer and start scooping them out. Putting them on the tray’s is the worst! If you would ask me about making cookies, this would be my opinion, “My opinion on making cookies is to not make cookies, make bars!” So this takes me a while to do because I absolutely hate making cookies.
Finally, I put the cookies in the oven! And guess what?!? I didn’t do anything stupid like I would do! I didn’t burn myself! Then after 15 or so minutes I took them out of the oven and I let them cool down! Right then my dad walks in, “Sniff, oh, those smell delicious!” And boy, did those cookies smell

I remember being a little girl, sitting at the kitchen counter, watching my mother. She would be making preparations to cook us our wonderful meal. Eager to learn, I would ask, “Mom, what can I help with?” Then I’d jump down, off my chair and listen to her instructions with excitement. She put forth a lot of hours preparing and finishing everything before family and friends arrived. The kitchen would be filled with joking, laughter and storytelling. We would listen and sing to music as we helped and waited for our Thanksgiving celebration to start.…

So, what’s so wonderful about cookies? It begins with intense basketball games and living with 8 other people and only having one bathroom. It’s about late night homework sessions and once having broken arms together. It’s associated with bank robberies and local shootings. It’s about fibbing, hurting, yelling, sweating, throwing and aching. All of this screams cookies.…

As a young child, I tended to become ill often. The doctors blamed my weak immune system on the fact that I contracted mononucleosis and was hospitalized for two months at a young age. The consensus was that over time my immune system would improve and I would outgrow any other issues. I continued to get very ill with bleeding sores constantly lining my mouth and throat throughout my elementary schooling. I noticed my condition was drastically worsening as I ended my sophomore year of highschool. I entered my junior year chronically ill. I missed over thirty percent of the year due to being so ill. I went almost all of junior year teaching myself the information my peers were able to learn in class. I became so physically tired that even getting out of bed was exhausting. I was living with such pain that my parents decided to seek the top…

During Christmas, my mom makes either pozole or tamales. This year she made pozole. It was really good and it had a good taste because my mom added a lot of red chiles. She either buys soda or makes ponche served hot, because of the weather we have during this time. We stay up until midnight and then we open our presents. Sometimes before its midnight, like around 8 or 9, we go to my aunts house for an hour or two and they give my family and I some presents which they want us to open early so we do. I sometimes make or buy cookies and give some to my cousins and my aunt. Then we go home around 10 or 11 and we stay up until midnight where we open out…

I don’t know why. This person in front of me, could be mean or she could be my first friend in this unknown area. I hoped it’d be the second one. I ascended the steps and walked the path to her porch where she was sitting. As I got closer, her smile grew and so did mine! She wasn’t mean, she was sweet. I sat down next to her, and quietly said, “My name’s Mallory, what’s yours?” She replied with, “I’m Shaunna. My mom just made these cookies and I asked if I could share some with you.” She was sitting with a warm plate of chocolate chip cookies, for me! We shared some cookies and talked till my parents come back outside. What an amazing start to a new…

I always know it is Thanksgiving morning when I awake to the smell of the turkey roasting in the oven and the cinnamon apple spice tea brewing on the stove. The rest of the morning is spent helpingmy mom and grandmother cooking in our large open kitchen. Every year for as long as I can remember, my grandmother uses my Nana’s recipies when cooking the thick butter garlic mashed potatoes, homemade sweet red cranberry sauce, and the rich creamy dark gravy. On the other hand, my mom and I always cook the french green beans, sausage and bread stuffing, and also our homemade pumpkin pie together. While the women spend most of the early afternoon in the kitchen getting things ready, the men normally gather in the living room and watch sports or play a board game on the coffee table. It is a rule in our house that no man is allowed in the kitchen while we are cooking unless he is coming to help with dishes; otherwise the men eat all the food as it is being prepared.…

JIMMY TIME FOR DINNER! Says my mom, I really don't like having to eat dinner because we HAVE THE SAME THING! We always have lasagna and I am really tired of having to eat lasagna. If I had a dog I could just sneak it to him/her so I don't have to eat it, but of course my mom says the same thing “No! It's too much responsibility” and anyways I like the smartest 3rd grader in my class and I have responsibility...whatever that means. Aug lasagna it’s ok but still like the last few times we have it. I might try to ask for a dog again “mom I actually could take care of a dog. I will feed it and clean it's poo even though I don't want too”. My dad got mad that I said “poop” at the dinner table but no one denied me asking for a dog so maybe that's a…

Personal health is something that everyone needs to be concerned with, but not many people are. I’ve noticed that in the recent months, my personal health has not been what it used to be. I’ve only come to this conclusion after starting to track a few health aspects in my life. The aspects of my personal health that I chose to track for a month includes nutrition, physical health issues, and alcohol use. I chose to track these three specific parts of my personal health because they are the most important to me. Like most females my age, weight is very important, and trying to lose weight must be done through nutrition. Also, I have a few health issues, such as asthma, thyroid disease, and severe anxiety that I need to work on. Finally,…
