As a single mother, I saw my mother work two jobs at times to make sure food was on the table and bills were paid. Being just a kid I could not work or help as much as I would have liked to in order to help out, working with my dad I was able to gain valuable insight as well as experience from a young age as well as a strong work ethic that I feel gave me a better ability to deal with adversity as I have matured. Since I had some basic labor training in janitorial and lawn maintenance I could start a small lawn care business cutting grass in my neighborhood during spring and summer months, raking leaves in the fall, and lastly shoveling driveways in the winter time. Having basic skills and knowledge in this discipline I have been able to successfully run a few small businesses, I have taken multiple accounting, finance based, and banking courses with some prior knowledge that made me more successful in the courses. Now that I have grown up I find that being financially literate is more useful than ever, because I can work a decent job I can invest small amounts of money and begin to increase my worth far sooner than many people realize that they can; Doing so will help me to achieve my financial goals more efficiently.
Being financially literate I have been able to do many things most people haven’t realized they had the ability to do or many people just didn’t want to do which is start their own business and control their own cash flow.
