I remember the exact day I first realized something was wrong. I was on the train with friends on our way to a soccer game and my shoulder started to ache. I thought it was just from carrying my heavy bag, or some dance related injury that I could just brush off like I always do. When my pain didn't go away after 3 days, my mother decided to take me to the doctor. That's when I found out I had tendinitis in my left shoulder.
Coincidentally, in dance we were learning about anatomy and Kinesiology. Although, I was injured my teacher enjoyed the fact that I could relate what were learning to what was happening within my body. I enjoyed learning about nutrition, muscles, bones and how they affect the human body. This class opened my eyes to how different injuries require different healing methods. Anatomy and kinesiology intrigued me because the human body always tries its best to heal itself. I loved learning about different exercises and treatments that help the human body.

It was more mentally vexing that I couldn't always do what I wanted because of the inflammation, but it allowed me to become a physically stronger person in the long run. Working through the strain of tendonitis has made me look at recovery differently. The reason I desire to be a physical therapist for athletes is because I believe I can relate to what athletes will be going through, due to my personal experience with this injury. I now understand the limitations of an injury and how to work yourself back to a point where you can continue to participate in what you love.
