Personal Narrative: My Science Fair Project
It all began in the sixth grade when I was in Biology class with the white walls and all of the cabinets surrounding the students from the side and the back and the only thing to look it was the white board and the teacher sitting on her desk thinking about what to give us net as our assignment. As soon as she got I thought she was going to give us an easy assignment to complete in a day or two, but this time that was not the case she ended up giving us the longest homework of the year and it was our science fair project. The assignment took us about a month to complete because she took it in steps since it was the first time that anyone was going to do it. The first step is the same as anything you do in your everyday in life and it is what …show more content…
Since it was my first time creating my board I asked my older sibling for assistance since they have done them before and they said “It is very simple all you have to do is type out the things that go in a scientific method for example, your hypothesis, procedure, materials and etc.” after that brief conversation with my sister I went into my room and began to type the titles in order to put on the board and after all the titles were ready I began to write the information that I was going to put under the titles. As soon as I was done with the board and my worries finally went down because the last thing that she wanted us to do is stand in the hall so people could judge the way our board is and if the information is good they would give us a good review or a bad review depending on how everything is. I did not think that there was going to be anything else after they judged the boards, but apparently, I was wrong because the next the day the instructor announced the winner of the class science board and said that they will be going to the science fair. Soon after she explained what the science fair she said my name and said that I am the winner of the class science boards and I will be moving on the next stage I was happy and nervous at the same time because now I must do something that I know little

I cut the grass for some of my family because they asked me to cut it for them. I did it for my Aunt Gwen and my Grandma Hill. I enjoy my time with my Aunt and I was working together with my brother and my cousin and we had a great time over at my Aunt’s house. And at my Grandma's house we had a great time over there. I got to see my baby cousin and I haven’t seen here in a long time. I would do this again anytime because it was fun and if they ask me to. I picked this to do because they asked me to do it for them. This experience made me realize that family matters and to never let them go. It changed me making me a better person and making myself more available to family’s need. This helped someone else and it help the community…

As an avid reader, I always understood and appreciated what it took to get that story to print. Especially since I always found it so difficult to take the ideas from head and articulate that point whether it be written or verbal. As the five weeks have passed I am becoming more aware of what my challenges and my strengths are in my writing.…

For my first biology test I received a grade that I am not proud of. To be completely honest the night before the test I attended a concert and didn’t get to sleep until two in the morning. This optical is defiantly something that I could have avoided. I should not have attended the concert, or at least I should have prepared myself weeks in advance knowing that I had a concert the night before. This is my second time taking the class and I expected better out of myself. I made the same mistake I did last year by not studying till the week of the test. Another obstacle was my interest, I am not interested in the topics we are discussing but as a student I need to ignore preference and work on doing my best. Most biology test is memory based…

Me being the impatient but helpful person I am I said “yeah sure”. So I moved this little box that any kid in my class could have easily moved outside of her moving it herself. She stopped what she was doing at her cabinet and she showed me my final exam grade and it said 89% B+. A surprised me began smiling excited that I would pass the class with almost a B average for the year. She looked at me and said “T, you are smart. You have given me 40% effort and still somehow you still have managed to pass my class, I struggle dealing with students who are incapable but try hard every single day and you don't show me any effort and still manage to do have a decent grade…” “Why are you afraid? You are easily one of the most gifted students I have encountered and you show no effort?”. I just sat there lost and confused and wondered how she knew and wonder why I had wasted all this time not living up to my full potential, I had let my fear of failure keep me from being the best student I could be. I now look at it and regret the decisions I made in the past. Everyday i have learned to allow myself have higher expectations than I have before. There was a lesson in what my teacher said to me and I will…

In April, I was given the opportunity to work with several English language learners at P.S.189. I was able to work with Mrs. Bogue’s Kindergarten class and Mrs. James first grade classroom. During my visits, i was allowed to select students to partake in literacy and language activities. The teacher’s informed me of the students who were English language learners . I asked Mrs.Bogue and later Mrs.James to tell me a brief description of the students that I would engage in activities with. The children that I was able to work with during my fieldwork experience are as follows;…

One thing that sets me apart from the other candidates applying to the University of California is my hard work. I have always been smaller than other kids my age. At 15 years old I was 4’ 10’’ and looked like I was eleven years old. Although this was an advantage at the airport, when I would begin to take off my shoes and the TSA Officer would look at me and say, “Don’t worry twelve and under can keep their shoes on.” I was often discredited for my size. Especially because I played volleyball, a sport known for its height. I constantly struggled to make a team I deserved to be on because people would see my height and automatically think I was not capable. Although my height often led me to feel discouraged and angry it eventually taught hard work.…

When we arrived to school our teacher, Mrs.Brooks, told us to clear our desks so we could commence the exam as soon as possible. I was so nervous my hands were trembling uncontrollably. This test could either go in two directions , I could pass the class with a solid B or flunk the class and would have to attend summer school. I repetitively…

English was the subject that requires too much thinking. In my family I was always known as the over achiever. Other school subjects came easy, but not English. For some strange reason, whenever I tried to write, I had no idea where to begin or when I did write something it did not make any sense. It is like I was stuck with permanent “writers block”. If someone asked me about my topic, I could tell someone out loud about Shirley Temple. A few days before first drafts were due, my grandmother saw me at the kitchen table, clearly stressed out with hands on my head. I explained to her my situation, and told her “I hate writing!” My grandmother sat down next to me, and read the few sentences I had written. She asked if told I asked my teacher for help. I replied “No…” she then said “Well you need to ask her before it’s due, I would help you if I could. But we did not have to do research papers when I was in school.”, “But you need to take a deep breathe and calm down…it is impossible to do anything done right if your upset.” The next day, in class we went over MLA format, how to do a bibliography, and transitional words. After lecture, I went to my teacher and explained what was going on with my research paper. Basically,…

When asked to write about a childhood experience most people think of the time they lost their first tooth when they were 6, or about the time they started school when they were 5, however, I’m going to write about summer. In my freshman year of high school, I had a strict science teacher. She was also quite stubborn as well, as she was a perfectionist and believed that she barely makes any mistakes. One day, when I was checking my grades online, I noticed that there was a score of zero on one of my lab reports. Thinking that it was strange, I looked through all my lab reports and found none that had a mark of zero. I knew that I had to argue against the teacher and complain about the wrong grade that she put in. Afraid that she would chide me, I hesitantly went up to the teacher and explained that she accidently put in a wrong grade. At first, she denied of making such mistake. However, when I proved to her by showing her all of my nonzero-marked lab reports, she finally complied and changed my grade accordingly. By fighting for my unfair grade, I was able to get my average score up again by eight points. If I had not complained and stayed reticent, my grade would have fallen drastically and would have even made my parents disappointed.…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…

It was a perfectly normal Saturday night, until I sat on the couch. I expected to enjoy a funny movie with my dad, but instead I got a trip to the hospital. I sat on the couch, and then I felt a sting in my elbow. At first, it felt like I got a shot at the doctor, but it slowly got worse, and felt more like a knife slicing into my elbow. I winced and sprung up from the couch. I squinted and my eyes scanned the spot where I just sat down. Aha, I thought. There was a small piece of plastic, and it looked like it broke off from a container.…

It was a typical first day of school. Rushing to get ready, finding the perfect outfit, cliche first-day-of-school pictures. When I got to school, everything was normal. Life was good. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “To be yourself in a world that is trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment”. A question such as “who am I”? Really gives me the opportunity to differentiate and express who I really am and who I can be. I am not a complex person who thinks the world is against me, nor am I overly sophisticated “know-it-all” who doesn't take time to pay attention to my surroundings. I can't say that I am like every other person because there are certain things that make me a unique individual. What I can say is that I am progressing towards a brighter future.…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…
