Personal Narrative: My Sectional Tournament
I have experienced many failures in my life but one stuck out to me more than others. I have wrestled since I was 8 years old. Through all my matches I have wrestled in my life, something hit me. My sophomore year I worked really hard to make it to the state tournament. Going into the sectional tournament, my record was 19-3. I had a by the first round which put me in the semi-finals. After winning my semi-finals match 12-4, that put me in the finals against a kid I wrestled 3 times before this. He pinned me the first time we wrestled and the next 2 times we wrestled I pinned him. Going into this match I had a lot of confidence because I knew I could win. I underestimated the want he had to win. He surprised me and came out strong. My sectional …show more content…
I was seeded 7th out of 21 kids. I had to wrestle a very tough kid my first match. Considering this was my first match of the district tournament, the nerves kicked in. My full potential was not shown in my first match and I walked away with a loss. The tournament wasn’t over and I had to keep my head up even though I knew losing again wasn’t an option. After an hour or so went by, it was time for my second match. The kid I had to wrestle wasn’t ranked and had a losing record so I assumed I could win. I went in with a positive mindset and came out victorious. I pinned him with 27 seconds left in the first period. With that win, I move on to the second day of the tournament. When the first day of wrestling is over, you have to option to weigh out that night or weigh in the next morning. I really wanted to eat that night so I chose to weigh out. Little did I know I was 4 pounds over. So after an hour of running I made weight and was able to eat that night. Laying in bed that night, I knew that tomorrow could be my last day wrestling all year. I had to give it my all. The next morning, we left the wrestling complex at 5:45 so we could be there by 7. Everyone slept the whole way there. After we all checked in, it was time to start warming up. I got a good sweat going in the warm up and felt confident. At about ten o’clock, it was time for my first match. I wrestled hard and walked away with the win. If I won my next match, I was going to the state wrestling

Over the weekend I had a huge Soccer Tournament in Grey. We had two games on Saturday and one game Sunday. In the first game we played a Cumberland club team and beat them 2-0. In our second game we played Westbrook and won 5-0. So at the end of the day we were 2-0 and in first for our bracket, but winslow was also 2-0. Going into Sunday we had to beat South Portland by two goals and not let them score. We ended up tying them 3-3 and we got eliminated because Winslow beat Westbrook 4-0.…

So I started to prep my show box and trailer. I cleaned the box and the trailer, I got all my brushes back together and refilled my sope. Then it came time to leave so we loade Mady and Suzzie and we left for the show. When we got there and we were unloading Suzzie when Mady got loose from my dad and I had to chaser her all through the barn, but other then that it went very well. The next day that I got to the barn we had to start cleaning Suzzie up for her first big show and I was worried, but when it came time for me to start working it all just became nothing. The way that we got her show ready was by blowing her out to get all of the dirt out of her hair, then giving her a bath to get her smelling pretty like a girl. Then I blow her hair out to get her hair dry, and to get her hair to point the right way. Then I started to brusher her to get her hair just right once I got it how I wanted. That's when they called my class, and when I got there they sent me in. So I went in they told me to set her up for a butt profile, then a side profile. Then the judge started to place. Sadly he did not thank that we were that good. He placed use in sixth. I would have licked to have done better but it is what it is. So we load up and went home we would have to do this many more time all the time we would place in a different place, but this year in the Wilson County Show I was able to win my shorthorn class with…

Whenever I meet someone new, there will come a time where they ask me, what sport do I play. I'd say golf. But why do I play this most unusual sport. Well one of the reasons why I play is because of my main golfer Tiger Woods or in other words my hero. The three points I'll talk about today are: who is he, why him and what he has done to be the best.…

The intense roaring of the crowd gradually faded into the vast abyss of his mind. As the last seconds ticked away, his breath got heavier and he knew that it was now or never. He knew he had to make the shot, he could not just mess this one up. At that last moment when the ball left his hands flying into the air, time seemed to have slowed down as the buzzer went off simultaneously.…

However, I was in a package against Big Lake and I shut down receiver. The following week in practice while I was working harder than even Coach Herberg came up to me and said “I’m starting you at the corner this week. You had a good game and you deserve it. Good job kid.” We were playing Willmar and I was very nervous. It was my first varsity start. Coaches said that was normal and said for me to relax. I played extremely well and I was very proud of myself. The following three weeks I have started and became more confrontable with playing on Friday night. My focus level was as high as ever and I was improving my talent day by day. Hard work does really pay off. I worked hard and did my job throughout the year and on the field. I listened to my coaches and stayed true to myself and I sure did pay off. I’m playing varsity and had kept the promise I had with myself last…

I had a rough draft made, but I decided it didn't go with how I was feeling with everything going on. I decided to write the paper that would prove to my mother why I should continue to do wrestling. I had many ideas that I wrote down like quotes that apply, but I didn't realize till after I wrote the ideas down, that I was wasting too much time thinking of what to write than actually typing the paper. I thought about the people that made me realize that I want to continue to wrestling. I got the sense of why wrestling can help me learn things that I can use for the future. "It's that kind of sport where you look in the mirror and you either see a winner or a loser" I was told from a wise man I met at a wrestling match. Learning to be confident is part of winning or losing a match. Usually whoever put more hours of work into wrestling, it's a most guaranteed win. But everybody makes mistakes and that's when part of confidence comes in. Wrestling teaches many things that other sports doesn't always. I think it's one of the hardest, but most rewarding sports anyone can participate in. "Always improving" my coach always tells me. Like in writing my teacher explains, "It's never finished; it's just due." I'm starting to fathom how wrestling applies to many things in…

I was wrestling the kid that beat me the first match so I was nervous. I knew I could beat him I ended up beating him seven to four. My first year of wrestling was in high school my junior year. I wrestled at Forbush High School in the 106/113 pound weight class throughout this winter sport. Before, I must admit that I did at many different times think that the sport of wrestling was the most dumb and homosexual sport ever. One of my friends came up to me a few months after and asked me what I thought about wrestling. I told him like I said to everyone else, “It’s the most homosexual sport ever created.” He said, “When you’re out there wrestling, you don’t think about it. I challenge you to come out this year and wrestle and tell me if you think about anything being homosexual out there.” I accepted his challenge. My first day of wrestling practice was pretty great; I got to learn some new moves. Shortly after a month had went by, we had our first match. I was the first one up. We shook hands and the referee blew the whistle; it was on then. He took the first shot. I sprawled. I snapped around him to put a half on him to break him down. After I broke him down, I maneuvered a cross face cradle on him to put him into a pinning position. I held it as tightly as I could, and shortly after, the referee’s hands slapped the mat to signal that the match was over. We went back and shook hands again and right then I realized that I had won my match when the referee raised my hand. It was the most incredible feeling in my life to win my first match in 38 seconds. I told myself that I was sticking with it; I wasn’t going to give up on this sport. Did I think about how homosexual it was? No, I went out there and did the best I could. My friend was right, you don’t think about those kinds of things when you’re wrestling. Most people tell me each and every day that wrestling isn’t a hard sport or that it’s a homosexual sport. Famous wrestlers are known to this very day for the history they’ve created and made throughout wrestling in their high school or college days.…

Playing in a varsity game for the first time as an eighth grader had me scared of what the team might think of me or if they would accept me. As the last couple of hours go on, my head kept winding of all the negative thoughts that could happen if I played. Finally, 2:30 came around and the softball team was let out of school early to load the bus for the game. The bus leaves and while I am sitting, trying to get my head on a swivel, coach calls the names out the players who are starting. My name was called first. I was so pumped that I was playing against a phenomenal team. Unfortunately, one negative thought stayed in my head until I got up to bat. Before I stepped into the batters’ box, I looked at coach and I could see the confidence he…

I have been a Junior Olympic Competitive Gymnast for fourteen years and it has shaped me to be the person that I am today. Gymnastics is a large part of my life that has taught me time management, perseverance, and how to believe in myself even when the odds are stacked against me. When I was thirteen years old I qualified to the Level Eight South Eastern Regional Championships of the United States. Level eight in gymnastics is one of the most difficult levels and the one where college coaches start to recruit the best competitors. Without knowing it at the time, this would be an important event in shaping who I am today.…

I didn't go the whole day like my brother Colton did. I only had to do the last three out of a total eight classes. As soon as I got to the school, I met with the coach, and was asked some questions pertaining to wrestling, academics, as well as my own personal interests. He came out and told my parents that I did a wonderful job answering everything the way I should. I just sat in the chair thinking that this might be my future, and it was only the beginning of hopeful a historic run at being one of the most known wrestlers in the nation. Coach Green, the coach I met with, told my parents that I would be touring the school with one of their sophomore wrestlers. Me, being the way I am knew most of their kids in the lineup, and the one wrestler my dad and I had a conversation about, turned out to be my tour guide. Mr. Green, told me that I would be touring with Beau Bartlett, who is currently ranked second in the nation in the 125/130 weight class. With that being said, I was very eager to start the rest of the day, yet had some sort of anxiety to prove myself to the other students, and teachers. I was waiting, then after about 10 minutes, he arrived. I then was on my way to tour the school, and go class to class seeing what his prep high school campus was like. On our way to his language class, we stopped at this little metal plate in the ground. It had an oval shape, and was a dirty bronze. It had a giant “SEM” stamped in the middle, and around it was these words Verum, Pulchrum, Bonum” this is the school motto, it stands for, the true, the beautiful, and the good. After we were done talking about the school's motto, we scurried into the classroom in the language arts building. Yes, their is a building strictly dedicated to the art of language. I sat down in the classroom, seated next to Beau, I looked…

Around the middle of fall in the month of November, 2015, an event occurred that I never thought would have happened. I have been playing soccer since I was about four years old. As I began to grow older, more opportunities soon started to come into my life. Furthermore, this amazing soccer team always had tryouts this time. I had tried out before for this team the year before and I did not make it. Therefore, I did not want to try out again because I was way too frightened of the disappointment that might come upon me again. But still, I signed up for the travel soccer team when I was twelve years old. Although, I could not have done this without my supportive and encouraging parents to help me become hard-working and more determined…

It was late October of last year. It was hockey tryouts. Dreaded hockey tryouts. Every year was the same, going through the motions already knowing which team I would end up on. If it was my first year at that level, I would be on the B team. If it was my second year I would be on the A team. It had been that way all my life. But somehow this year I wasn’t as disappointed when they came around. This year it just felt...different. This year I felt like I had a real shot at making the A team my first year of Bantams. But I knew that making the A team would mean one thing, I wouldn’t be on the same team as any of my friends. So I had to choose between trying my hardest and possibly proving to myself that I possessed the skills to make the A team,…
