Personal Narrative: My Trip To Florida
In 2013, My parents and I went to the Philippines for vacation, to visit family from the mom's side. We had a blast visiting there. We only go to the Philippines every four to five years. Davao is the city where we usually visit because my mom's side of the family is from there. Usually it takes three to five airplanes just to get to Davao. The total travel time varies between twenty-eight to thirty-six hours with layovers. When I was in sixth grade, I went to Florida for winter break. It was very warm in Florida especially, when Indiana is cold. Florida is called the sunshine state because it is warm all year around! Florida is known for many tourist attractions but the popular place is Disney World. Every year my mom loves to go to Michigan for one reason, the Tulip Festival. My mom loves tulips! My mom was really excited that she got to go to the tulip festival again! She loves her tulips! As soon as my mom heard the news about going to another tulip festival, she began to pack. Soon as we were all done packing, my dad starts going around the house checking if the house is secured. Such as, if there are no irons turned on. Afterwards, we were all ready to leave. We got inside of the car then, we drove our way to Michigan. Everyone agreed to go to a specific place. We planned to go to an island. Canigao Island is a beautiful place. It is a tourist must see designation. My family and I arrived on the island by a boat. As soon as we all got off the boat, we started walking towards medium sized huts. We all started placing our belongings inside the hut. Therefore, all the adults started to prepare the food. Hours had passed by, the day had gone by fast and it was time to pack up. Everyone was gathering their belongings and afterwards, it was time to head back to the boat and

To begin, Florida known as “the sunshine state” hooks you in as soon as you enter the state. The beautiful palm trees blowing in the wind, the numerous orange groves you see from the roadside and the welcome center offering fresh squeezed orange juice makes you feel so at home. There are so many beautiful exotic looking flowers in the landscaping of homes and businesses. Of course, the warmer climate is the main attraction in Florida. The annual average high is 79F degrees and the average low is 57F degrees. Snow rarely falls in most of Florida, but has on occasion in the northern peninsula. Florida also has an abundant annual rainfall especially during the months of June through September. In addition, Florida is located between the Atlantic Ocean and The Gulf of Mexico, therefore it also has exceptionally high humidity and of course there is always a chance of hurricanes as well. Undoubtedly, both of these items are a major downfall to me.…

Miami, FL is a place that has to be felt rather than seen or heard—and by that I mean observed beyond all senses, with mind, body, heart, and soul. I’ve been entrenched in it my whole life, a little Cuban princesita not so different from all the rest, but it’s only as I’ve gotten older that I’ve fully felt like a part of a community, a culture. I feel it when I talk, casually, to the elderly cashier at my neighborhood grocery store, a familiar combination of Spanish, English, and what many call cubanismos, phrases with meanings that simply will not tolerate literal translations, spilling forth. I feel it while seated at a table of no fewer than four relatives on any given evening, judging the quality of a restaurant on the quality of their flan de caramelo or their café. I feel it, too, in the colorful songs of Ernesto Lecuona and the ardent verses of José Marti, but most of all in the anecdotes of my grandparents and great aunt, the nostalgia of long-settled immigrants, echoes of sorrow, shared over dominoes and rice and beans and coladas of espresso.…

Despite the several hurricanes that have occurred in Florida the past couple years, I think it's safe to say that Florida can also be a pleasant place to live. With its mostly sunny weather, friendly disposition, and many exciting attractions, Florida almost doesn't seem like the type of place to have such horrific weather at times. I, personally, even after knowing so many good qualities about the sunshine state, still am not convinced that Florida would be a nice place to live.…

There is no doubt that South Carolina is one of the few states making progress down south but to fulfill my wants/needs I needed to move here to New York. After months of contemplating I realized that for a chance to be treated as everyone else that I would need to make this change, I needed the money that work would bring, a chance to showcase my talents and living conditions near the plantation were harsh and unfair. I feel that this was the best decision to make at this point in time. Times are changing and we deserve to be, act and live better.…

I am sure it happened as easily as this: We were sitting around the garage shooting the bull during a cold winter snap. Thoughts turned to motorcycle rides and things spring and summer. For once, it wasn’t me. Mrs. K was the one to mention going to California. We hadn’t taken a trip the summer before, and she said, “We ought to ride to California and take the PCH along the coast.” Probably, no one jumped up and started packing, but several certainly starting thinking. One mention leads to another mention which leads to final plans. For me, it was a dream I have had since I watched Then Came Bronson and spent my time reading On the Road. For all of us, we researched the trip and found places and things…

One day, while I was laying peacefully on my bed, my mother came in with a letter from Florida A&M University. I didn't really want to speculate anything because a few days before I received a letter from another college saying that I wasn't accepted. Nevertheless I was still excited when I opened it and even more so when I read that I had been accepted. So without much hesitation I packed up and headed to Tallahassee. When I arrived my mother and I took care of registration and a plethora of things you have to manage as a new student. After all the hassles of college registration were completed my mother departed for home and I was left by myself to attend college. What a great feeling! Little did I know what I had on store for the next day, my first in college.…

Going to Southern California, no one would think of packing an umbrella. Why would they? California is in the middle of a drought. When someone thinks of California, they think of baby blue skies and palm trees along the streets. But, of course, the weekend my family decided to visit Disneyland, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld is the weekend Southern California experienced what the local news called a “tropical depression.”…

On Saturday April 13, 2013 I was walking through the parking garage on the USAA campus in San Antonio, TX to start my 4 hour work shift, I began to go through the turnstile and seemingly startled awake a bat. This bat began to fly and squeal in fear. It darted at my head getting caught in my hair a couple times. I started to scream and flail my arms about trying to fend off the nocturnal flying mammal in fear. During what seemed to be forever I was able to unlock the turnstile and exit the entry way but not before rupturing two discs in my neck. This incident caused quite the turn of events in my life. I had been working for USAA for 3 years and truly loved it there. I also lived in a beautiful apartment with my mother and two children and…
