Personal Narrative: My Trip To Haiti
For the first and last few days of my trip to Haiti, I will be staying with a house family in Delmas 83. Their house is roughly a twenty minute drive from the Port-au-Prince International Airport and around a forty minute drive from the orphanage I will be volunteering at. There are many museums, markets, craft villages, art galleries, restaurants, and shops local to the areas that I plan on staying in throughout my trip. There, I can meet and talk with individuals native to Haiti.
I will be spending the most of my trip volunteering at a local orphanage called Love Orphanage, located in a residential area in Croix des Bouquets. My main duty within the orphanage is to plan and execute activities for the children that are centered around me

I never realized how lucky I was to be granted such a stupendous life until I saw the poverty some people live in. Over the summer, I was fortunate enough to be able to take an ephemeral trip to Nassau, Bahamas. It was much different than I imagined it would be. I remember walking around and almost being frighten to leave my parents sides. There were natives on every street corner trying to con their way into you spending money on their fake product; there were people going through the trash looking for food; there were people sitting on the street with all their belongings tied up to their bicycle street. You could just tell this country was nowhere near as advanced as the United States. It was nothing like the pictures and it got me thinking of the gloomy lives these children will have to grow up in and all the opportunities that they don't have available here.…

First off, trip to Vietnam was truly a blessing. I did not expect so much of the trip until the first day I arrived Vietnam. On my first day, I got an opportunity to meet many great people who were selfless; those who cared more about others rather than themselves. It took approximately 14hours in total to arrive at hotel. Even though the plane ride was only about 5hours, since it was a group trip, it took extra time to ensure everyone is in right place. Despite the exhaustion and drowsiness, no one complained but encouraged others. I was already touched by grace of God before we even began our mission trip. On the second day, I volunteered for the medical service. There were two activities including the medical service, and house painting…

The Dominican Republic, known for its beautiful beaches and balmy weather, was the last place I ever imagined I would find myself in this past summer vacation. On this week long trip, it wasn't for the warm ocean waves or the traditional Dominican cuisine I was called to, I was called to serve the beautiful Dominican people. On the third day of the trip, instead of heading out to the worksite where we had been pouring the concrete footers of a plastics and water filter factory, I opted to travel with a group to the childrens' cancer ward in Santiago and visit the patients. We started out our visit by performing a few dances we had taught our vacation bible school and handing out fun little gift we had brought with us. We played ball with some…

The line sounded rehearsed, as if he had spoken these words multiple times a day for many years. His glossy brown eyes penetrated my startled blue ones for as long as I let them until I turned away. His dirtied innocent face was one that came straight out of a UNICEF commercial, the sort that caught you off guard during a commercial break of your favorite TV show. Wistful faces of impoverished children flick before your eyes as a concerned voice insists that if you donate your unused pocket change every month, you could support the life of this poor boy.…

Born to my father and mother who are natives of Haiti, I have developed a strong sense of the Haitian culture. I was born and raised in the United States, but I would have to tell you that because there is no way to decipher that due to the manner in which my parents raised me and my 3 siblings. My parents are proud Haitians that believe in their principles, religious beliefs, and the upbringing of their children. My parents kept us in church 24 hours and 7 days a week. If there was a service happening, we were going to be there. After a while, growing up in that type of household you would either love church or hate it. The Haitian community had church services anywhere that was available store front, basements, gymnasiums, and even…

When I was in high school the only thing that mattered to me was singing. I grew up in a family that sang in churches, all over the east coast. I found that music was something that I could do that made me happy. My mother sacrificed so that I would be able to get voice lessons and for that I will forever be grateful. So, when I had the opportunity to audition for a musical or choir It was always fun to watch the director's faces, because I was little but I had a lot of power. When I was growing up this was my life, back and forth to rehearsals and lessons.…

The journey begins in Maracaibo, my hometown, where my friends and I were planning to go to Aruba. We were thinking about partying in Aruba to celebrate that we graduated from high school. As soon as we all agreed, we started looking for the hotel, clubs, and beaches. The day before our trip, my friends Orlando, Jesus, and Joséandres confirmed that everything was still going well, and everything was perfect, in other words, everything was working out just how we planned it. The big day arrived, and we flew to Aruba, but unlucky for us, that was where everything started to look dark. Joséandres lost his documents and money, and out from the blue what was supposed to be a party trip, turned into a sorry trip.…
