Personal Narrative: My Trip To My Middle School
In 8th grade, a group from Lexington High School called “JROTC” did a visit to my middle school. They were well-dressed and their appearance was very professional. As they went through the introduction slides, I became very interested in their program. Little did I know, that in a mere 4 years, this program would change my life forever and become my second family.
The first day of freshman year was intense for me because my morning began with JROTC and I had no idea what to expect. After getting lost twice, I finally found room 139A and walked through the door. The room as full, but I quickly spotted my best friend Caitlyn and sat down next to her. We anxiously awaited for the moment of silence and the National Anthem. While we were taking

I first started the JROTC program was my freshman year of high school when I moved from Alaska to Missouri. I at first did not know about the program when I arrived at the school to register for my classes. I walked into the principal’s office and Mrs. Stumpff, the principal, helped me to set up my schedule. I got all of my core classes though when it came to electives I tried to tell her what it was that I am interested in. When I told her that I loved to have things organized and that I was OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) she called in a teacher. The teacher that she called in was a teacher that I would get to know for the next three years of my life. Master Sargent Long (MSgt Long) walked into the office not more than two minutes later. MSgt and I talked for around thirty minutes about what the program was about and how it was. In the end I made the decision to try it out.…

Middle school in Chicago was completely different from back home. One day as I was getting more familiar with the school, I stopped for a minute to take a look at my surroundings, I saw girls dressed in long girly dresses, others having breakfast in the cafeteria while preserving their legs closed and some absorbed in the illusion that they must look good all the time to be the girl they were taught to be.…

Aisha and I met each other in the 5th grade when we were both placed at the back of the class. She is now a sophomore at Aspire Langston Hughes Academy. Aisha is a 16 years old Pakistani girl who lives with her parents and younger brother She has with wavy purple-magenta hair reminiscent of candy. She speaks with a slight accent and is quite overdramatic. I’ve known for 6 years now. Almost three and a half years ago I was a new freshman cadet in NJROTC at San Ysidro High School. I started off at the bottom like any other cadet, but I was surprisingly the quiet one of all. Although I was new, I knew where I wanted to stand in the unit. I wanted to be more than what people knew me as, the quiet and shy girl who only joined the program because her brother is in it. Cadets knocked me down for months to the point where I wanted to quit and give up because I thought I lost all hope in myself. But ironically, that was the best part of all because I grew and learned from that experience, I wanted to prove all of them wrong. The first month of being in the unit, I successfully got passed through my breaking point and it greatly contributed to the person I am today.…

In a black Nissan car a girl and her mom sat, supposedly talking, “Mom, I’m going to make a fool of myself, can’t I just go to my old school?” I pleaded my mom. “Don’t say that you’re going to make lots of new friends. During my freshman year of high school I received a letter in the mail. This letter was an invitation to play basketball in Australia, with other boys and girls of my age. The date was September 13, 2011. The letter stated that we would be leaving June 1, of 2012. Of course I wanted to go as soon as I read the letter, but my family was more curious about the trip. We did some research and figured out everything that would be offered on this trip. In my research I read of playing Australian basketball games, snorkeling, swimming in the ocean, surfing, and spending three days on Tangalooma Island. This was enough to convince my family that it would indeed be a fun trip for me to attend.…
