The first day of freshman year was intense for me because my morning began with JROTC and I had no idea what to expect. After getting lost twice, I finally found room 139A and walked through the door. The room as full, but I quickly spotted my best friend Caitlyn and sat down next to her. We anxiously awaited for the moment of silence and the National Anthem. While we were taking
attendance, we realized that the upper classmen were responding with “Here, Sir!” when their names were called. From that point forward I knew that JROTC would drastically different from any program I had been in before. Freshman year went by pretty fast, but the most memorable aspects of it were: winning Cadet of The Month (a prestigious honor among the unit), being on the Military Ball Committee (only a few cadets are chosen, and first years are rarely selected), and receiving the “Tiger Pride National Award” (an honorably award for the top freshmen).
