Personal Narrative: My Trip To The Metropolitan Museum Of France
When I was very young, France was an entire world away for me. It seemed like a place that I had only heard of in the travel ads describing “five-star vacations in the land of romance and culture - France,” it was a place that seemed so alien and remote to me. To me and my close-minded five year-old worldview, France was a land where people wore what my kindergartener self would call “painter hats” and ate stinky cheese with long, stiff bread. However, my myopic and narrow-minded view of other cultures and started to mellow when I took a life-changing trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. When I entered that monument to color, I was instantly captivated by the sheer beauty of all the art that surrounded me. Nonetheless, I was drawn toward one painting, Paul Cezanne’s “The Card Players.” I was transfixed …show more content…
However, once he entered his French 1 class this all changed. The bored and disinterested student that I was before was no more. In French class, my hand shot up constantly, I studied meticulously for exams and quizzes. Before long, my passion for school became reignited, I always trotted onto my bus with a grin on my face, classes soon started to become fun. To me, French was not like any other class, it was like a daily vacation for me, the more I learned, the funner it was. Learning French felt like a daily vacation, mastering the accents and pronunciations was my escape from the dull, ugly world that I lived in. My French class set me free with its sheer beauty and soft sounds. By mastering French, I felt like I truly was opening a door to another world, only this time I could step through it and experience France’s language and culture firsthand. French has given me a connection with my academics and a people half a world away that no other subject

In the story “Seventh Grade” by Gary Soto Victor had many embarrassing moments that he learned from during his first day of seventh grade. For example , in the text it stated that Victor’s English teacher asked him to provide a noun his response was “Teresa.” (para 24)This was embarrassing, since some of the girls giggled because they knew that Victor had a crush on Teresa. This is when Victor should have learned to think before you reply and not to blurt out the first thing that comes to mind he was just focused on Teresa not noticing what was happening around him. Another, embarrassing moment Victor had was when he pretended he knew french however, when Mr.Bueller(his French teacher) started speaking to Victor in French he did…

In the story “Seventh Grade,” Victor, the main character, learns that persevering to achieve something can lead to embarrassing moments that can at first make you feel like a fool, but later on it can become something great through his embarrassing moments. The author illustrates this point when he states, Mr. Bueller asked if anyone knew French. Victor raised his hand, wanting to impress Teresa. The teacher beamed and said, “Tres bien. Parlez-vous francais?” Victor didn’t know what to say. Victor felt all eyes staring at him. He tried to bluff his way to out by making noises that sounded French (Soto 42-43) He looked sheepishly at the teacher, who was erasing the board, then widened his eyes in terror at Teresa who stood in front…

The story of "Night at the Museum", produced in 2006, is often portrayed as just a comedic movie, but in reality, it's a heroic tale of preserving the powers of an Egyptian tablet that lets the beings within the museum come to life at night. This story is a supernatural take, because things happen in this movie that are impossible to occur in the real world. The plot of the story revolves around a man named Larry Daley, a part time night guard for the New York City Museum, and every night he must make sure everything in the museum that came to life is out back to its original position and everything is as it was the day before. I will explain how this movie identifies with The Hero's Journey chart and how it relates within the departure, the initiation, and the return of the hero's journey.…

France is known for being one of many artist powerhouses of the 18th century. The art styles reflected the attitude and culture of the time. Two major styles, Rococo and Neoclassical varied in similarities and differences such as theme, style, and whether the artist was influenced politically or philosophical. It’s true that Rococo was taken by storm over night at the dawn of Neoclassical. However both of the styles suited it’s era from the carefree life styles of the aristocracy to the inner nature of the people of the revolution.…

He didn't seem to like the name of the museum. The “Holocaust” Museum. Just didn't seem right, ya’ know? Like they reduced it to just that and nothing else, he tried to make it seem like his opinion really didn’t mattered, but this was just their history. This was his story. Now he’s just walking alongside her, her with the fair skin that had gentle freckles the sun gave to her every now and then, bright grey eyes that had tinges of subtle brown like oak. Her hair was long, brown, and swift and her voice, sweet. She was lively and short contrasting his mourning eyes, his tall and thick stature, his blunt voice, and his unruly tightly coiled and cotton hair. He was crushing hard, but he knew her head was elsewhere, on one of the other friends…

I took a trip to the art exhibit because I knew this would be right up my alley. The art installations were fantastic, and explored the People, Land, and Creativity of California. The temporary glass work exhibit was my favorite. No photographs allowed (by the time I found out, I had already taken seven photographs) and its mature content so preferably no kids allowed. But to my surprise there were tons of kids. The first art work that truly caught my eye was Fortunato Arriola’s “Tropical Landscape” (1870.) The social realist painting consists of green and blue shades as the scene takes place at a river bend. The golden frame (which is 48 in HIGH x 76.75 in WIDE (121.92 cm HIGH x…

Merriam- Webster defines culture as “the integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behavior that depends upon the capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations.” Enticed by this, I go where any North Texas culture- seeking teenager would go: the Dallas Museum of Art. Walking in, I am overwhelmed by all the displays of expression; some are confusing, some are straightforward, and some are just plain odd. My friends and I make a game out of the experience, attempting to mimic the sculptures of the Olmec people and recreate art painted by Fernand Léger. The immersion sends me into a state of refreshment. The individualism that is manifested through mind blowing artwork inspires me to write again, to claim words as my own and place them down on paper in combinations that have never before been imagined.…

Coutts is a Small town located just above the border into the United States. I saw the reporters interviewing the people looking to get their side of the story as they waited for the event to be underway the grand opening of the museum of native American history. One reporter was interviewing a tall Native American who wore a name tag that said I am Blackfoot on it. The man said to the news reporter “I remember 3 years ago when Mel started this petition to reopen this museum, we all thought he was crazy, he would come around with these little name tags…

During my tenth grade year my English class always flowed smoothly. As a class we were never really required to do much more than babysit ourselves. There were countless days we sat in class and did simple worksheets on the book Night by Elie Wiesel which I had read in the eighth grade. Not realizing this was an English class it felt like kindergarten all over again. I had even considered it to be the best class period through my first two years of high school. It was chill, easy, and, comfortable. That comfortableness had not only crippled me but was what played a key part in my eleventh grade misery. That’s when it had all started.…

My history as a writer began like the opening of any book you could read in the world. To extrapolate, I began my adventure in reading and writing by learning to read from left to right, and from right to left. I feel like through my early learning in Montessori school, and Hebrew school I have gained enough knowledge to pursue the next course in college learning. In my past I learned that reading and writing in different languages is difficult. I learned the numbers in French and I never pursued the French vocabulary flash cards. I was about seven when I began to learn about the French language. I prospered for a while it seemed at Hebrew school. Writing in general was hard as a child, and I only remember that my favorite word in French was “wheat” and my favorite character in Hebrew is Lamhad. I was brought to this class to experience a way of learning that is both personal and comfortable. I am happy to have a professor that cares a lot about his students. The teacher student bond is similar to the mentor deciple bond. They both require patience and humility to begin. The mentor disciple relationship is what encompasses for me, my experiences with background, family, hobbies, interests, jobs, and dreams. The mentor disciple relationship is what I strive to achieve in my life, because I see all things in life have the same relationship.…
