My identity has been heavily shaped by my work experience. For a little longer than a year, I…
The first week of my Boeing Internship is a busy one. I have attended two of the three Marriot Boeing events. It was an incredible experience. I took fond of the stories of important Boeing employees’ mistakes. I also found interest in the poster session—specifically the augmented reality device.…
I looked at the application packet, and on it it said, Automotive Technology Internship. “Awesome,” I thought, I quickly applied for the program, and one month later, I got the email that said, “Congratulations, you made it into the Automotive Technology Summer Exploration Program!” I thought that it would be a regular summer program, but I as my summer past by quickly, it had affected me in ways I would have never guessed.…
I have always been known as the kid with unending football knowledge. That, along with the fact that I had been hosting my own radio show for two years at the time, left me with great confidence going into my NFL Network internship. My first day on the job I was thrown into the fire. I was researching statistics and other stories to craft my own pieces to present to the rest of the office. At the end of the day, I had written four segments, all of which I was very proud of. I never imagined that all four would be rejected.…
My graduate educational experience will be different from my undergraduate because when I was undergraduate I didn’t know as much and did not have much experience. In my undergraduate I really did not know what I wanted to proceed after graduation. It is a different experience because in my undergraduate I was more in campus and had a few online classes. As for my graduate educational experience it will be online. Before apply for my master’s program, I knew what I wanted to proceed. I will be gaining more experience and knowledge from my graduate education.…
Starting college was the hardest thing i have ever done in my life, very dramatic i know but it made me feel a whole lot of emotions. feeling nervous in social situations where i was to meet new people left me feeling uneasy and tense. on top of that was the constant nagging of the time. getting up early every morning and going on a bus to dundalk would be a nightmare after getting up nearly everyday during the summer at one in the afternoon. once i got into the swing of things i was able get up at the right time, like a normal person. there were no hassle at the beginning of the…
Back in 2012 I was accepted into Early college academy at south-ridge (ECAS). This school is particularly special because it allows high school students to take dual credit courses in a community college. Obtaining high grades in my classes while also being required to do my best was something I always had trouble with. I was the the type of person who didn't mind a 70 when it came to report cards, until I found out colleges didn't like students with low grades or at least with low performance like me. My freshman year I made the decision to improve my grades and become a better student.…
I first began looking at colleges my freshman year of high school. First, I looked up schools I thought seemed interesting and had majors I thought I may want to develop and pursue a career in. My list started off with about 20 schools and by sophomore year I would need to break it down to about 10. I began to visit these schools 1 by 1 and saw the type of programs they had to offer. I began at colleges such as Wake Forest, Clemson, and University of Tennessee at Knoxville. But I could tell that these schools just weren’t for me. My mother became fed up because I did not find interest in the schools I thought I would fall in love with.…
This experience taught me numerous new things that shaped who I was and altered the way I returned to my community, Los Angeles. The most important thing I learned at this internship was the ability to “fit into” this new way of life. While studying abroad, I believe that this skill I gained from my internship will allow me accommodate and adapt easily to the new culture. I also learned from this internship how to properly communicate with new people in general, but also with people who may not be familiar with my own culture and lifestyle. This new skill will also allow me to communicate and connect with other students while abroad by expressing an interest in who they are. I will also be able to grow a connection with my peers by showing them a bit of my culture and help them learn a new way of life.…
For the month of my internship it was like going down memory lane, except more of in a coaches position. It's a day by day process from Monday to Friday that I go in for the internship. Everyday I wake up at 5AM and I arrive before the players get to the weightroom before weightlifting. The first day that I started was to make sure all of the cameras were charged up before I began anything. The next thing I do is check to see what workouts that are being done today so that I can know what to record and what not to record. The reason for that is to show off different workouts so I can show how the team have developed over time from the beginning to the end. Once weightlifting and winter conditioning is completed for football, my job is to create a video of Walsh Universities football teams workouts and use it as a time-lapse to show them at the beginning of spring workouts until the end. The recording is like a building process for them. It's showing all of their accomplishments and their work effort that they are doing to prepare for the upcoming spring ball. As I do that, I'm also put into a coaches perspective with the players. Since I am a past player, I understand and know what they are going through to prepare for spring football. As I record them doing their workouts, I also communicate with them so that they can understand what they are working for and different ways they can improve. I'm also recording some mistakes and mishaps that I…
During the summer before entering high school my sister encouraged me to apply for an internship online provided by a program called Hire LA Youth. To my surprise I got the internship which was a exciting moment because I realized it would be my first real job experience . I had the choice to work at various locations but I chose the Boys & Girls Club because it would be a way to give back to my community. I knew this would be challenging since kids can be very difficult to work with and it's a great responsibility…
Currently I intern at Haven Health. Haven Health is a facility that provides palliative care, hospice care, caregiver services and physician services. Hospice care is the sector of choice that I chose to complete my internship as a social worker. Being a hospice social worker is very rewarding, yet challenging. I complete life reviews with each client, which provides me with their life history/background and other essential information that I need in order to be able to build rapport with each client. Being a hospice social worker provides opportunities to partake in reminiscing therapy, narrative therapy, cbt, strength base perspectives, social learning theory, crisis theory, and problem solving.…
Everyone has a had a “first” job because, you have to start somewhere right? I thought was going to be an awesome experience instead it turned into a nightmare. It was my junior year at South Fort Myers High School. My parents were pushing me to get a job so, i could save for my first vehicle. As rumors go around I hear Shrimp Shack the seafood restaurant is hiring for season. I apply and I land the job for hostess and food runner. Happiest 17 year old in town! Making money should be exciting right? Yeah not so much for myself on this crazy train.…
For teenagers, having a job is a way of making money, just a way of having extra cash for movies or clothes. It makes one feel independent. Personally, it made me feel sort of like an adult. It taught me how to be responsible and to handle my finances. I had to learn how to take public transportation, how to interact with my coworkers, work with different types of people, and also learn punctuality. In a way, it was almost like I had learned real life skills in under 3 months. I will never forget my first job experience. It will always be a big part of me maturing and becoming a young adult.…
