My best pecan fest memory was last year when I first rode the Pharaoh’s Fury. When I got on I was getting scared. I got on and there was no turning back. I sat down in the seat and the ride began to move. I thought I was goanna fly out the seat. It was going back and forth and it didn’t stop until it started to slow down. Then it stopped completely. My body felt all wobbly. I got off it was hard to walk. Next I walked over to a ride that I didn’t really know the name of. But it was really fun! Then I got off and decided to ride it again, and again! Next I got bored of the ride, and rode something call Tug a boat. It swayed me and other people back, and forth. I rode it again for no reason. My best Pecan Fest experience was last year. I rode the Zipper with Austen and Hayden for most of the time. My friends and I played all weekend and had fun. We bought lots of confetti eggs. They were very useful when we used them on other people. We also bought silly string and sprayed lots of people. We went on the Zipper at least 10 times. I went on the MI twice. I went on the Pharos Fury a couple times. I ran around the yard with my friends and we rode on lots of rides. I helped my mom with her booth and I got a lot of people to play the game. I also watched my little brother perform on stage. After that I ate some food and then went one the Zipper. I felt so sick after. I got some water and I went home. The next day we went back to the…

Dad said midnight and unless Darrell could fly, I was headed for real trouble. Darrell and I chose to go to county fair and like every cliché couple, we had it set to go at sundown in order to get the perfect Instagram post. Luminous pinks, yellows, and blues sparkled a mile out as we caught our exit to enter the fair grounds. Vibrations under our toes grew heavier and heavier as we got closer to the entrance and with a $12 stamp on our right hand we ventured out on running feet. We spent our night soaring high and low with dangling feet, carrying weightless bags of fluffy, crystallized sugar as heavy gusts of wind hosed us leaving the aroma of fresh, crisp funnel cakes. Captivated by parading aisles of games had us lose complete track of time.…

Today was the day. The big day. My election for Lieutenant Governor of Division 2B for Key Club, an international service club, was today. Fear and anxiety pricked my skin in rapid movements emanating from every pore. I rehearsed my speech for the fifth time that day. Upon arrival at the Fairfax Library, I urged myself to remain calm. I quickly scouted out the other girls who were present; one girl was dressed professionally with a folder in her hand. I knew that was my competition. The girl spoke eloquently and genially, she radiated enthusiasm and a certain warmth that I did not have. With every question that was asked, she answered with a smooth smile and high-pitched tone that was dripping with sincerity. I bristled inside; I had just been slapped. I was shrouded in a cloud of anxiety and anxiousness. Suddenly, I was dragged from my reverie.…

For many people. the months December through February create a vision of happiness and holiday cheer. The thought of all the warm Christmas cookies you and your mom would make, or the pine sweet smell of your just brought home tree, you, already prepared with your basket of ornaments, dusty from being in your basement all year long. The hope of a new year, of new beginnings, of fresh snow, and coming inside from the cold to sit by the burning fire with your favorite book. Thinking of these months can stir up a great deal of memories, and for many, these memories are wonderful. For myself, they always have been. December was a symbol of happiness for me. My family would travel to come to St. Louis, we would routinely follow Christmas traditions from years before, and love was widely spread. However, last December morphed this tremendous enjoyment I got out of these winter months.…

I hide, but not in the shadows, I hide behind a mask. This is me about to divulge my story, so please read on reader. I believe that finding true freedom a person’s mask will fall off. I always told myself as a kid to keep the mask on or else I might get hurt. I do not really know where this type of thinking came from. The mask only came off when I was in the safety of my own room. For years, I stay behind my fake face waiting and watching the world in silence until the day I could take the mask off in public. I realize that taking off my mask was a risk, but it is worth seeing the world and not feeling the need to hide. That day finally came, when the sun is shinning on my back, the wind whipping through my hair and the mask fell off my face.…
