Her father played piano, violin, guitar and the flute. Both Gwen and her brother were given piano lessons, and originally Gwen wanted to be a musician. Gwen's grandmother introduced her to poetry - this inspired her and became her lifelong calling and passion.…
While attending the Girard Academic Music Program, initially for singing, I learned to play the trombone and was also taught music theory, how to read and write music, which only increased my love for music all the more. After getting a good grasp on the trombone I decided to pick up the trumpet and taught myself how to play that as well. Upon graduating high school I attended Eastern University where I studied music education and church music. Later, I transferred to Temple University and there I studied Jazz performance with a minor in music education.…
I have always had a passion for music, since II was little, I have learnt various instruments, including Violin, Drums, Bass, Lead Guitar and Rhythm Guitar. I spent a while focusing on each of these from a young age growing up, at one point all I played was an electric guitar. After a while I threw the guitar down and picked up an acoustic, from that day I haven’t looked back, so to speak.…
I have alway had an interest in music mostly singing. I have always been interested in learning to play guitar, but I never took the time to learn how to play. I think that it's awesome that you want to go to the University of Florida. My sister graduated from UF, and I think it is such an honor to get accepted and graduate from that school. Good luck with everything!!…

A long time ago, when I was about 5 or 6 years old, we were in the car when my dad saw a piano on the side of the road with a “free” sign on it. Dad thought my sister and I should have one, so he brought a bunch of his friends together and they brought it home. I became excited. The piano sounded way out of tune and the white paint was chipped, but it remained a beautiful instrument in my eyes. We cleaned it up and then moved it to the very end of the living room, where it remained for many years.…

I was always interested in playing instruments as a kid. I first started playing the electric guitar when I was ten. What I imagined it would be like was way beyond what it actually was. I was under the assumption that I would be learning songs that I liked and would be able to pick up the instrument rather quickly. I soon realized that I would be learning out of a beginners guide for guitar. In the book was songs like Mary had a Little Lamb and Ode to Joy. A ten year old me…
Two years ago, on a cold Saturday morning, I prepared for my first ever track tryout. I took a shower, put on my clothes, and got into the car. On my way to practice, I felt strong physically, but I also had an undefined, jittery feeling about how the day was going to go.…
I remember, when I was younger, that I wasn't fond with the idea of writing. I remember after writing out paragraphs upon paragraphs my hands always hurting and my brain exhausted from all the mental thinking and processing of writing. However, I would have this feeling; this sensation when I would write with thought, with passion and I carved it. However, it was hard to find a place that was felt the same kind of passion that I felt for writing and could help hone my writing. Then, I found out about BISFA that could help me with my writing, but my English teacher, who was supportive in my decision, told me a question all writers should always themselves, Why do you write? I figured that I would have an answer, but it I didn't. However, it…
My writing recording sheet shows the many fluctuations of my writing grade. My year starts off with an okay start, and then towards the middle, my grades started to plummet. I would attribute that to my lack of focus in proofreading and properly checking my work. Over my last few assignments, I have been marked off for things that I could have easily attained point. During the start of the year, recording my mistakes down did really benefit me in my future assignments, but there would always be times where a mistake would slip through my proofreading. At most times, it would be my header where I might have forgotten my title, had too much spacing, or etc. Towards the end of the year, I kind-of fell off from recording in great detail as I started…
Music and dance have always been present in my life. My father and mother being both musicians and dancers influenced and inspired me to develop my musical talents starting at a very young age. At three years old I was already learning how to drum and dance. My father founded his dance school in 1992, the Djoniba Dance and Drum Center was my home, my life. Every Saturday was devoted to taking dance classes. My father was my dance teacher and a role model for me. When I was young I wanted to be just like him. My parents always supported me when it came to my talents in music and dance. My dad was often severe and strict with me, like any dad…
