It was early one morning, far before anybody was awake. The wind was starting to pick up, and it was also snowing with 3-inches already on the ground. That made it worse because it was causing snow drifts. Dad and I got in the very cold truck, (we didn’t wait for it to warm up) and were ready to go. As we were leaving, we plowed the driveway just to be safe, and to make sure my mom could get out later. We went to the shop to get the 4500. Of course the one we were going to take only has 2,000 R.P.M. and that is bad because it doesn’t go over a certain speed limit. So we got in the other 4500 and headed off to Port Huron. We plowed a lot of accounts and threw a lot of salt, just to be safe. We were halfway done
when we saw Mark in one of the other company pickups. We talked to Mark for a little while, but not for too long!
“We did it wrong” says dad. “What” I ask. “We did the route wrong,” said my dad. “How did we do the route wrong?” I asked. Dad looked at me and said, “Well, we did the small ones before the big ones.” How is that wrong? “Well, the big ones will start filling up with cars. That makes it harder to salt and plow the accounts.”
When we were heading over to the 2nd big job we stopped at Tim Hortons and got breakfast. We were on a roll until a car almost hit us. The car was going the wrong way on a one way. My dad does not like it when people do stuff like that. I think it's dumb but you can't control crazys. We finished the 3rd one, and then we realized we had less than quarter tank of fuel left.
It took forever to fill up both tanks, but we did. By the time we had 4 accounts left I was starting to doze off. I was tired from shoveling sidewalks and from getting in and out of the truck to see how much salt was left. I tried to stay awake by looking out the window and watching the houses and trees go by. Soon I looked forward and we were finishing the 3rd account, and then the 2nd.
Thank God we were finally on the last account. I was so happy I was leaping for joy in my head.We were finally on are way home and I was sleeping peacefully. I dreamt that tomorrow we would have another great day just like today, but without the broken down truck.
