Int. police precinct - interrogation room #1 - night
Keith walks in and shuts the door slowly.
KeiTH
Jacob, I'm Detective Keith. I hope my colleagues have been treating you fair.
Keith sits across from Jacob, who has bruises all over his face and stitches on his chin. Jacob only focuses at the table in-between them.
KEITH
Do you need to go back to the hospital?
Jacob looks to Keith and puts his hands on the table. Keith goes over the rap sheet.
KEITH
Last year you got charged with drug possession. Three years ago you got charged with assault.
JacoB
Like I said to you're friends. I'm willing to cooperate.
Keith
That's not what I hear. Tells us who gave Dylan the drugs. That and only that is your way for the district attorney to lay some heat off you.
JacOB
How much heat?
KEITH
Why don't you want you

KEITH
You can cave in or I'm gonna make sure you bunk with Dylan for the next decade in a jail cell.
Jacob looks down at his lap. Keith adjusts his jacket and folds the rap sheet in half. Keith stands up.
JacOB

Keith sits back down.
JaCOB
Look. There was this...older fellow that approached me when I was workin'. He asked if I can work with him. He said that he needed younger people.
KEITH
What type of work is this?
JACOB
What do you think?
KeITH
Drug shit.
JaCOB
Yeah, that. He offered me better pay. He asked me if I was Italian. He wasn't giving me a bullshit shtick. The guy had an experienced tongue.
KeITH
Was it some mob guy?
JaCOB
I'd say he looked like it.
Keith
How so?
Jacob
Thick skin, dark hair, and kinda heavy. I didn't get his name. He just told me to call him on a pay phone if I wanted in.
KEITH
Have you called him yet?
JaCOB
No, but I had been thinking about it... Every time I open my wallet, I see the card he gave me to call--
The door opens, Keith turns around. It's Daniel.
DaNIEL
Keith, can I see you in my office now, please?
KEITH
Sure thing. Just a

On Monday, April 11, I went on a Ride-A-Long with Officer Jim Brooks who is a sergeant at the Taneytown police department. Initially, I was supposed to do the ride-a-long on Friday, April 8, However, Officer Brooks contacted me a few days before, explain to me that they had changed his shift and asked to reschedule the ride- along (which we did, till Monday April 11). This shows how flexible the police staff is, with changes occurring constantly and how they do not have consistent schedules. There are 5 shifts at the station, which each officer works. Taneytown, Maryland is about 2.5 square miles. The police station was built in November of 2002 and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. For each community within and…
